I dont understand...why your most creative player need to be at the end of the pitch at the end of the rotation? Great video edit, but not practical to be applied..

Going to discuss this with my group of high schoolers specifically on the first 5 minutes of the game to read the opposing side. Thinking about referring to it as the reading phase. Funny how your channel popped up the moment I start planning next season. I’d love some small sided drills to do throughout the year since I have a small squad. Thanks!

That’s more third man running. Opposite movement is when the striker comes towards the ball, brings the defender with him but then spins off back towards the goal. Or when a cross comes in and the striker makes out that he’s going back post but then darts towards the near. That’s opposite movement. You showed a variation of third man running
@CoachReese
@CoachReese 27 күн бұрын
What you're describing is called a double movement, which is completed by an individual. An opposite movement is a rotation involving two players. As with most rotations other concepts will be involved if you're looking at the wider picture

You should take a look at the moronic escapades of Farke at Leeds, and no doubt at previous clubs. Half the teams we play at Championship level bring a low block to the table and though these practices are used we invariably end up needing a goal late in the game. Enter the Farke 316 formation where he loads up bodies in and around the penalty box of the opponent whilst giving up midfield control and resistance to counter attack . . . see Blackburn. Clueless.

The biggest problem for possession based teams is when they man mark and don’t press the goalkeeper even if he starts to dribble higher. It ends up in the keeper having to play long into players who more than likely aren’t very physical because of the player profiles in a possession based team. Soon enough teams will have to create a structure in which it makes the likeliness of a long ball end up in a high chance of keeping the ball from the goalkeeper. If they don’t create a specific structure for long balls against man marking they’ll end up losing the ball and end up in a transitional game which will benefit the opponent player profiles more than the technical team.
@adnaibnsina
@adnaibnsina 2 ай бұрын
To avoid that long balls a center back can join the pivot to form a double pivot and then it will be a 2 vs 1 in the midfield wich can help to progress without going long.

Hi Reese, as you have a lot of knowledge on football tactics If you could name 6 tactical trends currently in world football that you think football fans should know about what would they be?
@CoachReese
@CoachReese 3 ай бұрын
In terms of tactical approaches the major ones are probably: - Positional play - most top teams are positionally focused - Relationism - seems to be the next potential idea/ alternative to positional play Important things to know are: - Counter-pressing - Man orientated pressing (man marking) - Ball orientated pressing - Different forms of superiority: Numerical, qualitative, positional (concept from within positional play) - Along with a lot of little things such as - the half-spaces, key players roles such as the libero (John Stones), Regista (Rodri), Inverted full-back (Zinchenko)

@@CoachReese Thank you for your reply I asked the question as I think it’s important to gain an insight into your opinions on football as you have a lot knowledge. Here are some of the trends that I’ve heard of Hybrid pressing, CBs inverting into midfield, baiting of the press/generating space, the positives of direct -> counter pressing to by press the first line of engagement lopsided attacking structures, rest defence/attack. What are your thoughts on those tactical trends that I’ve mentioned and what are the benefits of those tactical trends and If you could recommend a few football tactics books to help with understanding tactics that we see today which books would you recommend?
@CoachReese
@CoachReese 3 ай бұрын
CBs moving into midfield is the modern libero. Hybrid pressing is a combination of zonal/ ball and man marking pressing. A rest defence is a core component of a team's attacking structure used to support/ circulate the ball, but important during a counter-press. Generally used within positional play teams a rest defence will be structured in either a 2-3/ 3-2 depending on the overall attacking structure of the team. A rest attack refers to the most advanced players within a team's low/mid-block and used during attacking transitions to ease the process and increase the overall success of the team. Baiting the press is the attacking team using pressing triggers to their advantage. This encourages the forward line of the pressing team to jump creating space to be exploited. It's a bit of a self plug, but I have an ebook that contains an explanation of the tactical concepts we're discussing and the majority of the others used in the modern game. It's available through the link in the description with 20% off.

@@CoachReese Thanks I will look at the book, Do you think it’s important regarding how a team wins a game instead if they won the game. When I say ‘how’ I mean the types of chances the team creates and the amount of control a team has in both boxes. As a lot of football fans says a manager plays ‘good football’ like it is a big deal when there’s more to football than playing good football. For example alot of people say De Zerbi plays good football which somehow means his a good manager because he plays good football. I think ‘how’ you win is more important than playing good football what do you think? My point is a lot of football fans are saying a manager is good just because the manager plays good football which seems like a lazy answer/opinion to give when praising a manager. What football podcasts that gives good opinions and talks about tactics would you recommend?
@CoachReese
@CoachReese 3 ай бұрын
My challenge to that is always - "What is good football?" Is good football entertaining football or is good football one that wins a game? The managers who use positional play have a very distinct style of football and usually win games. But so can managers who sit in a low-block and counter-attack. Mourinho/ Simeone have a very distinct style that differs greatly from the more entertaining positional play approach. But both are great managers. I agree with in that saying a manager is a good manager because they play good football is a lazy answer. Being a football manager is so much bigger than the tactics they use. That's the tip of the iceberg really. For me a manager should be judge on: Their tactics, the quality of the environment they create for the players, how they motivate players, how they handle different challenges, their adaptability during games or difficult moments and their behaviour
