When talking about a fast SD card, how fast are we talking about? I tested the 180 bit rate with a SanDisk Extreme (V30, U3) and the recording lagged in a few moments.
@simonwyndhamАй бұрын
To be on the safe side, I've been using V60s, but that Sandisk should be fine. There's no harm in going down to 160mbits. You should still get a good result.

What is the best solution for no/less noise without to edit in post
@simonwyndhamАй бұрын
If you want less noise, you can leave the noise reduction setting at its factory default and set the maximum ISO to 100. But, you won’t get low light performance or good HyperSmooth in low light conditions if you do that. The problem with a small sensor camera like the GoPro is that they aren’t low light performers, instead getting their best footage in bright sunshine.
@Mike_OscarАй бұрын
@@simonwyndham thats maybe not ideal, my problem is not necessarily night shots but i film more in vlogging type of way where the lighting constantly changes, for example simple stepping inside a taxi gives me grain but outside the taxi is fine, or stepping into a mall or something with bad lighting etc any recommendations for that?

EXPX is MAX shutter speed. I think what you meant to do is to ensure a high enough shutter speed to minimize hypersmooth "mush" and to do that you need to set MINIMUM shutter speed which is EXPN. Please explain if I am wrong.
@simonwyndhamАй бұрын
EXPX is most definitely the minimum shutter speed (my footage proves this, otherwise the method wouldn't work and my footage would have had motion blur all over in the dark forest). However, these days I use the EXPT command instead, which sets the maximum shutter angle (the higher the shutter angle, the more motion blur, so it's the opposite of maximum shutter speed). I have EXPT set to 3, which gives a maximum shutter angle equivalent to 45 degrees.

I just bought a GoPro 12 and I love it but I have noticed that sometimes on certain skin tones things look a bit over sharpened and you can see a lot of blemishes on people’s skin, almost looks too sharp. If I’m just shooting scenery, everything looks gorgeous but when I’m shooting people or interviewing people, their skin looks a little sharp or even artifacts a bit. What do you suggest for better results? Sharpness to low?
@simonwyndham3 ай бұрын
Always set the sharpness to low. The skin blemish aspect could also be down to the tone mapping, so using the flat colour profile or the log profile will help since they don't use tone mapping.

GoPro may be smaller etc etc but that doesn’t mean they’re somehow a better consumer oriented company. Maybe they treat you extra nice because you know them but anyone who doesn’t have that connection with them gets to deal with their absolutely horrible customer service that they’ve outsourced to the Philippines so that’s knock one against them. Also if you’re a smaller company then you survive off brand loyalty, there is nothing good about building brand loyalty with the 12 when everyone knows it’s the same as the 11. Essentially you have bought the 11 and now if you want any of the new features of the 12 it’s 399.00 for a firmware update or even 299.00 for loyal subscribers. that’s like a pay to play business model and may work for a while but once there’s competition why would I stay loyal to you when I’ve had to pay for any feature my current hardware could already do in the past even as a subscription it doesn’t benefit. A better model to keep a loyal customer base would be to stop doing a camera every year if not necessary (for example the 9 should have been delayed another year since the processor was really not up to the task), use the subscription as a perk to get new firmware feature updates for free, now you actually give consumers more reason to subscribe which gives the company consistent income, offer to sell firmware update packages (like what the 12 is) to non subscribers so you’ll make some income off users who already own something like an 11 and want some of the 12 features but aren’t going to pay 399.00 for them. All these would be more likely to keep a customer from looking at other options and comparing as you’d be invested in GoPro and continuing to use their cameras. As is with the pay to play model there’s no way I’m paying 299.00 for firmware so I’ve looked elsewhere and ordered a dji 4.

My point about GoPro being smaller wasn’t about whether they are nice or not, but to show that developing two totally new cameras at the same time would take too many resources, and that after Karma, GoPro has to focus development much more carefully.

Its not the company size - Apple has more money than DJI - the iPhone 15 is almost the same as the iPhone 15. GoPro does the same thing as Apple and folks rush to buy the new latest phone every year.
@simonwyndham10 ай бұрын
It has everything to do with company size. For a company the size of GoPro, in some ways still reeling from the Karma debacle, it is a big undertaking to develop two completely new cameras simultaneously. Yes, Apple does have more money than DJI, but to say the iPhone 15 is the same as the 14 is very misleading to say the least. The iPhone 15 Pro has a brand new 3nm process processor, on board ray tracing, new periscope camera etc etc. All of which would have cost a load to develop. Getting the 3nm processors manufactured in the numbers needed alone would have been a monumental task. GoPro doesn't have anywhere near those resources and so has to focus what it has more. It's not as simple as "Oh, these companies want to screw us, so they just release small updates". If they did that, they wouldn't last long. I've given my reasons why I believe the 12 isn't as big an upgrade as some were expecting (even though I believe the 12 is a larger upgrade than many are giving it credit for), and although I'm very open to being proven wrong, I'm sticking by those reasons for now.
@KennethGreenCMP10 ай бұрын
@simonwyndham it's interesting you said the Pro version. The iPhone 15 Pro is new. The iPhone 15 is nothing more than an iPhone 14 max, and they will still sell millions of them. While it's true GoPro doesn't have the same resources GoPro are still the best action camera for the money when used as an action camera.
@simonwyndham10 ай бұрын
@@KennethGreenCMP That's pretty normal, bringing up the features from last years flagship model to the more affordable versions. Nothing wrong with doing that. That doesn't negate the costs of developing the new Pro version though! And that tech will benefit users of the base models next year. Nobody is forcing anyone to upgrade. You don't *have* to have the latest phone or the top of the range phone. There's no automatic right to this stuff, and if people don't want it, then they aren't being held at gunpoint to buy it.
