A modern marvel, built in retro times. I'm not even close to flying, but if I was and I could build a plane, this would be my first.

They only manufactured 5 aircraft. Adams already started working on a jet prototype before the 500 had even started to sell. They owed Centennial airport $850,000.

@@aircraftadventures-vids no way those blips of peoples faces are accidents? How is that even possible? It’s pretty interesting. You should do it just to mess with people. Anyway, I appreciate you saying that they’re still there. Because I can’t find them. It’s probably a KZfaq protection when people submit links or something.

Absolutely interesting and also fascinating to know, that this aircraft inventor sold blue-print of the aircraft and challenged people who would be interested to build their own plane. Hope one day, I can get the blueprint and make it for myself, in India. 👌👌👌❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊

It's genius aa it is shocking it never became a production aircraft with that kind of speed and cost to fly. No doubt like many aircraft the manufacturer would price it out of most budgets sadly.
Very interesting. The video does not explain the relevance of the vertical prong to the fact that the wings can fold. Second point: why not sell this as a kit, eg with the welding already done? There may be a good reason, but let's see it spelled out.
@aircraftadventures-vidsКүн бұрын
Sorry, those are the hinges used in the folding mechanism, yes I failed to properly address that. I can't explain the second point, don't know the reasons why the designer decided to keep it as plans-only. Maybe other priorities in life.

@aircraftadventures-vidsКүн бұрын
Yea I messed up that part. Those are hinges for the folding mechanism, which I discussed but never really made the connection between the folding wings and the hinges. I've been called out on that...big oops on my part.

The biggest drawback to this plane probably is the high speed, a slow plane is easier to fly and navigate.
@aircraftadventures-vidsКүн бұрын
Every plane is a compromise, you give up the lower end of the speed envelope and gain on the higher end.

Too many compromises, it's a cool design but a bit challenging on the lower end of the speed envelope. Also not suited for short runways.

With all of the composites that we have now, what is the real drawback to being able to create a kit plane? I also wonder about building a larger version keeping everything to the same scale? With fuel injection, turbocharging and the like, why couldn’t this be done?

If it's an efficient design, wouldn't it be a good candidate for electrification? Throw in some modern composite materials and other improvements and you would have quite an impressive machine even by modern standards?

Electric and airplanes are not a good mix yet, the battery is way too heavy, range is too short. If they can solve the weight issue then it's a different story, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Last summer I was in Oshkosh for work and heard an airplane fly over and from below it looked like a fighter jet but it flew too slow and sounded like a piston engine. I'd wondered about that plane ever since. Now I know what it was and I am impressed.
