I agree on the ending. The creators didn't know what to do? They just turned up the volume to the music. The characters motivations kept flip flopping in different scenes. I thought that the movie was all about inuendo and sexual tension. One person in the theatre said that it was about control. Great review Harry.

That’s a good call; I reckon it could have been both control and sexual tension. I feel that very much captures Zendaya’s character! Thanks for the kind words 😁

America consumes war via media. They don't care for the background; they just want the war journalist to capture the 5 minutes of footage with the soundbite for the 11 o'clock news. Jounalists covering just another civil war. Sure, ''The Year of Living Dangerously'' it is not, but it's okay.

Just what we need is a review by a foreigner of a crap movie about something that won’t ever happen, but we all know that all our rivals hope will happen in order to take the U.S. out of the global equation. What’s worse is that it’s through the lens of journalists, which are the scum of modern society. Journalists are the enemy of true democracy and republicanism.

I did not like the movie at all. Very slow, characters not very likable, mediocre acting, no story line. If i am going to watch a movie based on observing the experience of certain characters in a situation, those characters better be captivating and damn interesting, which they were not. I think because of the context and it's innovative concept, people let their imagination do most of the work on keeping this movie interesting for themselves. But not something I would watch again.

I can get behind most of your review, except that Francesca Annis was the best Jessica...as well as each of the other cast members from 1984 being equally ideal in their casting. Naturally, I would readily agree that, e.g., the Barron and Count Glossu Rabban were acted in the 1984 production in such a way that is was difficult to take them seriously. But imagewise, they were still the best ones I have seen; script and dialogue issues notwithstanding. I would similarly review the costuming, music, scenery and cinematography. The steampunk look of the technology, especially, was better in that earlier production. And as big a fan as I am of Christopher Walken, no, I didn't get Emperor vibes from him here. But most of all is the character, Paul. True, Kyle MacLachlan didn't look 15, but he looked young enough to be a Duke's son. More importantly, Kyle played the Charisma Effect (i.e. of the very subtle sort that Frank Herbert and his son Brian were warning us about with the books) to utter perfection. Being intelligent *and* well-educated in that very danger, I *still* was entranced by Kyle's portrayal to the point I myself might just have been charmed into following *his* Maud'Dib anywhere. Not quite so much with all the other versions of his character I've seen since then, including this most recent one. Timothée Chalamet is good, yes, I do not mean to say otherwise. But Kyle's is still the best Paul Maud'Dib Atreides I've seen or heard so far. Besides, to be fair, we must remember that Timothée was born in 1995, so *he's* not authentically a 15 year old either.

This was a great movie but the bittersweet ending made me stop caring about about the main character. I had a long debate with my friends and they said it was a political move. It just felt apathetic to me.
@SpannerReviews2 ай бұрын
I can understand the ending making you feel like that! which is why I’m curious how they’d take Paul moving into the next segment, as I wonder if he may make it tougher for audiences to resonate with the story? 🤔
@Timelord20012 ай бұрын
We must remember, though, that was basically how it went in the novel. One of the things many lament about the 1984 film -- including me, and I'm a *fan* of the 1984 film -- was the syrupy-sweet ending that not only went against the book, but just generically, was not as plausible. The two realities that had to be accepted were that Paul couldn't marry Chani because of the politics (he had to marry the princess in order to ascend to the imperial throne, military victories or not), and that he would *hardly* "bring peace" until after a *lot* of deaths throughout the imperium. We get a hint of that with the response message from the Great Houses, saying they did not recognize his ascension. It's just more accurate *and* more believable.

Subscribed because you expressed my feelings so well. As a 90s baby and an anime fan, Watching an anime movie for popular series like Inu Yasha is only possible if it shows in Animax, and I have to be there at 7:30 on that date because you'll missed it and won't know when the next one's gonna be. I'm so happy to live at a time Anime is so popular that it gets to be shown in Cinemas and even reach my province. I lived 500kms from the City Center of my country and this is as rural as it gets

I am just going to say it- I feel like I enjoyed this film more than my last time watching a Kingsman movie. I mean, I like watching spies kick butt and I really appreciate the humor breaking things up. I don’t like watching things that are too dark and serious personally, this just felt like a good time. The only reason I can think of is that it is a woman learning she was a spy who was manipulated? I mean, I feel like I have seen that idea with a male that people have liked? Im not sure.

it was so boring and stupid, disco boogie fight scenes especially, I'm here before finishing it... don't waste your time, the doll noses and frozen roller coaster hair aren't enough comedy to make it worthwhile. Cranston's hehive a triumph of Hollywood tackiness! Barry White should force them to remove his opening song, which tricks you into thinking something good will follow... it doesn't. the leads, including minute Rockwell, who looks like a girl(ELLEN) here, were just as mundane as the movie, don't fall for the over sell of some. Never heard of or seen the boring redhead lead, won't need to again, based on this showing. Was she on a TV show for girls? don't believe anyone else

Loved this movie. Is someone paying the critics to say negative things? But I have found depending on the critics to determine whether a movie is good or not, rarely works anyway. This movie is fun, exciting, full of twists, entertaining, a fun plot, and extremely well acted and directed. Way to go Argylle cast and director.
@peacemaster81173 ай бұрын
I'm a chronic glazer of Matthew Vaughn, his balls haven't left my mouth since I first saw Kick-Ass, but even I couldn't really enjoy Argylle. It was jus so un-engaging for most of the runtime, it only becomes a Matthew Vaughn movie in the last 30 minutes.
@marktaylor71623 ай бұрын
It's not just the critics, nor would I go by whether you liked Kingsman or not. Kingsman had good pacing, a fairly consistent tone, a plot that was reasonably coherent and humour that landed fairly reliably. In my opinion, Argylle was an something of an inconsistent mess in all four of these areas.
@ddilly98253 ай бұрын
Thank you for saying something positive about this movie. I saw it twice in the theater, loved it! It's not perfect but it's a lot of fun and it's really quite clever. It's not a movie for everyone and that's ok. If you didn't like it that's fine, find a movie you do like and enjoy that but there's no reason to be so negative as so many reviews and comments for this movie have been. It's a very sad statement not only of how negative film critics are but of us as a society altogether. We need to stop taking ourselves so seriously.

This review is just Demon Slayer glazing. 50% of the movie is just recapping the last 2 episodes of Swordsmith Village, and the other 50% is just nothing. We don't even get a final fight. Or worse, we don't even see any of the Hashiras training, like the literal title suggests. This movie existing to "hype up" the next season isn't an excuse, in fact it only makes it worst. If movies of any other franchise do this bs, they'd be under nuclear backlash.
