I was happy to see 15:07-16:13a GM garratt locomotive designed by W.A.J Day in action,hoping two of their kind preserved in Witbank and Krugersdorp are still there very intact longing to visit those places of preservation just to see them.(2023.11.07-21:17-socalled South Africa)

Very good film (Standard 8?), British Railways let some of their diesels get into poor condition, like the last days of steam.

Nice recordings, is the location known? Seems to be a very dense suburban push-pull service even that close to the end of steam in France. But something seems wrong with the speed in some of the scenes, trains flying past or braking and accelerating like they are a car, use of different frame rates when the film was taken and then joined together in one edit?

Like some others i wish i had started spotting a bit sooner and done more trips down to the south west to get behind the hydraulic classes....ok you can ride them on heritage lines but i bet they made some great sounds on the main line full thrash.

Wonderful, just wonderful. If only there was sound. Not a criticism, not at all, I fully understand the equipment of the period. Thank you for this, takes me back to being a 4-8 year old boy and the family holidays and spotting I enjoyed back then. Happy, happy days. Time Machine please.

Interesting to see footplate crew still wearing steam overalls in 1967. Likewise the guard still wearing black serge with lion and wheel cap badge.

You don't think BR suddenly provided a few tens of thousands of locomen new uniforms do you? Think of the cost. When they were due for a new issue they got something more appropriate, until then they had to wear the old stuff out.

I'm not entirely convinced this was 1967. By then most mainline guards had received the new corporate blue. WR steam had also finished so unless the footplate crew were steam die-hards I'd have thought them to be in BR greens at least.

I always said they should make use of the new crossline to provide more east to west through trains, they did try running Anglia railway trains along the North London line but wasn't well advertised and didn't last long.

For your information the Film opens with sequences from the former Jugoslavia as 06 2-8-2s are featured, along with ex Austrian class 2-8-0's classified class 25 on JZ . Austria is next featured with an opening scene on the GKB. The rest of the film features German and Danish scenes, including some shot on the DR in the old East Germany or DDR.

Classic iconic footage from back in the day,What kind of Camera was used to film these as this is obviously 50 odd years ago? Thanks B to God that this rare footage has been downloaded somehow from old Camera Discs to being uploaded onto KZfaq for Future Generations to view in the 21st century like me at 49 ,Love rare footage of BR traction from the past times ❤️🇬🇧 Proper trains after Steam was being replaced by Diesel power ,Love the classic Warships designs to the Class 52 Western design .Unlike the rubbish running on the rails today ❤️Feeling Nostalgic watching this ❤️Looks like 1968/69 time before I were born in the Early 1970s(1973 )Wish I could go back to these times ❤️Wish there was sound for this as obviously video Cameras filming this didn't have tapes but Film to record on like Projector style Discs with Magnetic tape .❤️Can hear the throaty Clag of these iconic Locomotives that no longer sadly exist ,Hope some were preserved if not how sad 😢
