I am 53 years and have been searching for a mid life career. After watching this video, I am prompted to say that Supply Chain Management may it for me. Got a Bachelor's degree in Computing and worked with Guinness and other computer companies with strength in planning, inventory management, call centre management, online tech support, sound communication, team play, project management and highly detailed. Which of a Stand-alone ertificate or Associate of Science degree would best for entry level? At 53, is a career change into supply chain a smart idea for me. Thanks for the video that has open my eyes to a serious career change option.

Hey there! That's awesome that you're in the Air Force working in logistics, Thank you for your service🌟 Getting your CCAF in transportation is a fantastic step, and pursuing a bachelor's in logistics/supply chain management sounds like a great plan. I can give you some quick pieces of advice that I tell all my students and professionals: 1) Network, network, network: Build relationships with people in the industry, both in person and online. LinkedIn is a great place to connect with professionals and learn about opportunities. 2) Stay curious: The logistics and supply chain field is always evolving. Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices. Hint: AI and how this is changing the SCM landscape is one area getting more interesting lately. 3) Get hands-on experience: Look for internships, part-time jobs, or projects that give you practical experience. This will help you understand the industry better and build your resume. 4) Never stop learning: Even after you get your degree, there's always more to learn. Certifications like APICS or Six Sigma can add value to your resume and show your commitment to the field. 5) Have fun with it: Logistics and supply chain management can be challenging, but it's also incredibly rewarding. Enjoy the journey and don't forget to celebrate your accomplishments along the way. I wish you the best of luck with your studies and your career in logistics/supply chain management, and thank you for reaching out with your question.

Hey there! That's great to hear you're interested in a procurement career! Here's some advice to help you get started: 1) Education and Certifications: If possible, enroll in a bachelor's degree program in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field. This will provide you with fundamental knowledge. If that is not an option, consider obtaining certifications such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity (CPSD), or APICS certifications (like CPIM or CSCP). 2) Skill Development: Focus on developing critical skills like negotiation, supplier relationship management, and data analysis. Take online courses or workshops on procurement software like SAP, Oracle, or Coupa. 3) Gain Practical Experience: Look for entry-level positions such as Procurement Assistant, Purchasing Coordinator, or Junior Buyer. Consider part-time jobs or internships in supply chain or procurement departments to gain practical experience. 4) Networking: Build a strong professional network on LinkedIn and attend industry events or webinars. Connect with professionals in procurement to learn about their career paths and gain insights. 5) Resume and Cover Letter: Tailor your resume and cover letter to highlight any relevant coursework, certifications, or internships. Emphasize any transferable skills such as attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills. 6) Job Search Strategies: Regularly check job boards such as LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor for entry-level procurement positions. Utilize your network for job referrals and informational interviews. 7) Interview Preparation: Prepare for procurement-related interview questions, focusing on your knowledge of procurement processes and your ability to work in a team. I hope that helps, and keep in mind that getting started in procurement may take some time and effort, but with dedication and perseverance, you can set your path into a successful procurement career. Best of luck, and let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for watching.

Hi Prof, can you share concrete examples to incorporate sustainability (specifically carbon footprint impact) factors in Services procurement? I find it relatively easier to apply it in raw materials or Goods procurement, but rather vague for Services procurement. I can only think of simple examples like reducing printing, minimize in person meeting (travels), teleworking…
@MVCLogisticsAcademy
@MVCLogisticsAcademy 27 күн бұрын
Hey there! Absolutely, incorporating sustainability in Services procurement can be a bit trickier than with raw materials or goods. Awesome question btw, and here are some things I can think of: 1) Virtual Meetings and Teleworking: As you mentioned, reducing in-person meetings and promoting teleworking can significantly reduce carbon footprint by cutting down on travel emissions. 2) Green Service Providers: Look for service providers who have sustainability initiatives in place, such as using renewable energy, reducing waste, or offsetting carbon emissions. 3) Lifecycle Assessment: Conduct a lifecycle assessment of the services being procured to identify areas where carbon footprint can be reduced. For example, choosing service providers who use energy-efficient technologies. 4) Carbon Offsetting: Consider partnering with service providers who offer carbon offsetting programs as part of their service offerings. 5) Digitalization and Paperless Processes: Implement digital procurement processes and reduce paper usage wherever possible. This can include e-signatures, electronic invoicing, and document management systems. 6) Sustainable Supply Chain: Engage with service providers who have a sustainable supply chain. This includes evaluating their suppliers and ensuring they meet environmental standards. I am a firm believer that every little step counts, and when we consciously integrate these sustainability factors into your services procurement, we can reduce our carbon footprint and also contribute to a more sustainable future. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

Professor Rodriguez, after working for 26 years in the supply chain field, mostly procurement & purchasing area (from IT company to a Goverment officer now) i do have many years of experience, and i feel i have all this knowledge but never thought of how to organize it, summarize it or capitalize it. what would be your advice for somebody at this stage of the Procurement career. Mostly due to ADHD My brain is like a messy desk, on where only I know where to find the answer.
@MVCLogisticsAcademy
@MVCLogisticsAcademy 27 күн бұрын
Hey there! 🌟 Wow, 26 years in the supply chain field, that's impressive! 🎉 It sounds like you've got a treasure trove of experience and knowledge up there. Organizing it all can definitely feel overwhelming, especially with that "messy desk" analogy (I feel you! 😄). Here's my advice based on some things that have worked for me as well: -Mind Mapping: Try mind mapping your experiences and knowledge. Start with a central idea (like "Procurement Career") and branch out into different categories (like Negotiation Skills, Supplier Management, etc.). This visual approach helps me see the big picture, and then make connections with other pieces floating in my thoughts that connect to each other. -Journaling: Consider keeping a journal where you jot down key insights, lessons learned, and successful strategies. This has helped me organize my thoughts and create a valuable reference for myself later on when I need to create content or lessons. I like doing it digitally on OneNote and Notion (I am a newbie on Notion, but I like learning about it on KZfaq more recently) -Mentoring: Share your knowledge and mentor others in the field. For me, teaching someone else also helps me clarify my own thoughts and insights, and I like getting feedback from others and bouncing back ideas with them. -ADHD-Friendly Tools: There are some great apps and tools out there designed to help organize thoughts and ideas. Like I mentioned before, Notion and OneNote are great, but there are also tools like Trello, Asana, and Evernote. The point is in creating a system that makes it low effort to organize your ideas and notes that you like using so you can keep using it. I hope that helps, and thank you for sharing your unique perspective and experience because they are valuable assets we can all learn from! 😀

Hey there! Process: the heart and soul of procurement! From identifying needs to sourcing, negotiating, and finally purchasing, it's like a well-choreographed dance. 💃 Paperwork: Ah, the paperwork - the necessary evil! From purchase orders to contracts, it's all about keeping things organized and ensuring everything is accessible. What are the degree options for supply chain logistics and procurement and what’s the most practical or adaptable
@MVCLogisticsAcademy
@MVCLogisticsAcademy 2 ай бұрын
Hey there! 🌟 Great question! There are several degree options for supply chain logistics and procurement, including Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Science (M.S.), and Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs. Each has its own focus and depth of study, so it really depends on your career goals and interests. In terms of practicality and adaptability, many professionals find that a Bachelor of Science in Supply Chain Management provides a solid foundation in the field. This degree typically covers a wide range of topics, including logistics, procurement, operations management, and supply chain strategy. It equips you with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in various roles within the supply chain industry. However, it's important to consider your long-term career aspirations and the specific requirements of the roles you're interested in. For some positions, such as senior management or specialized roles, a Master's degree or MBA may be preferred or even required. Ultimately, the most practical and adaptable degree option is one that aligns with your career goals, interests, and the specific demands of the industry. I hope this helps, and I have a great free resource on my links called "Career and Life Assessment" and linked below as well! 😊🚀 pensight.com/x/mvclogisticsacademy/new-digital-item/d299dccc-6b39-40d4-85b2-1e2a43bd2fb6

@MVCLogisticsAcademy
@MVCLogisticsAcademy 2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! Risk management strategy is a critical aspect of any business, and I'd be delighted to share some insights with you! 😊 One key aspect of risk management is identifying potential risks that could impact your business. This involves conducting a thorough risk assessment to understand the various threats and vulnerabilities your business may face. Once risks are identified, it's essential to develop a strategy to mitigate or manage them effectively. This may involve implementing preventive measures, such as implementing robust security protocols or diversifying your supply chain to reduce dependency on single suppliers. Communication and collaboration are also vital in risk management. Ensuring that all stakeholders are aware of potential risks and their roles in mitigating them can help facilitate a proactive approach to risk management. Lastly, it's essential to regularly review and update your risk management strategy to adapt to changing circumstances and emerging threats. By staying proactive and vigilant, you can minimize the impact of risks and safeguard your business's success. I hope these insights help! If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask. 😊🌟

@MVCLogisticsAcademy
@MVCLogisticsAcademy 2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! 🌟 I'd love to help guide you on your journey back into the supply chain field! 🚀 First off, having an MBA is a fantastic foundation, so you're already ahead of the game. In terms of tools and certifications, here are a few recommendations: Supply Chain Management Software: Start by familiarizing yourself with popular supply chain management software like SAP, Oracle SCM, and Microsoft Dynamics. These are commonly used in many companies and having proficiency in them can be a huge asset. Certifications: Consider pursuing certifications like APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM). These certifications are widely recognized in the industry and can help validate your expertise. Data Analytics: Data analytics skills are increasingly important in supply chain management. Look into courses or certifications in data analysis using tools like Excel, Tableau, or SQL. Lean Six Sigma: Lean Six Sigma methodologies are widely used in supply chain optimization. Consider getting certified in Lean Six Sigma to demonstrate your ability to improve processes and reduce waste. Remember, the key is to focus on skills and tools that are relevant to the specific areas of supply chain management you're interested in. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have more questions or need further guidance. We're here to support you every step of the way! 💪😊

Can you explain the scoring for risk and capacity? Such as Low, Moderate and High. How would I find these scores if I’m just doing an assignment? For the approved supplier list (asl).
@MVCLogisticsAcademy
@MVCLogisticsAcademy 2 ай бұрын
Of course! 🌟 Risk and capacity scoring is essential for evaluating suppliers and managing your supply chain effectively. Typically, scoring involves assessing factors like financial stability, delivery reliability, quality control, and capacity to meet your demand. For risk scoring, you'd consider factors that could potentially disrupt the supply chain, such as geopolitical instability, natural disasters, or financial instability of the supplier. Low risk would indicate minimal likelihood of disruption, while high risk would suggest a higher likelihood. Capacity scoring evaluates a supplier's ability to meet your demand, considering factors like production capacity, lead times, and scalability. Again, low capacity would mean the supplier may struggle to meet your demand, while high capacity indicates they can easily accommodate it. As for finding these scores for an assignment, you may need to conduct research on the supplier and industry, analyze historical data, or use case studies to make informed assessments. Look for information on the supplier's financial health, track record, and any relevant industry reports. For the approved supplier list (ASL), you'd want to prioritize suppliers with low risk and high capacity to ensure smooth operations and minimize disruptions. Remember to document your scoring methodology and rationale for transparency and accountability. I hope this helps! If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask. Keep exploring and learning, and you'll ace that assignment! 📚🚀

Hey there! 🌟 Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing your journey with us! It's amazing to hear about your experience and growth in the manufacturing industry since 2014. 🏭💼 Congratulations on your current role as a Contract Coordinator! Regarding your question, while "buyer" and "purchasing" are often used interchangeably, there are some nuanced differences between the two roles. A buyer typically focuses on acquiring goods and services for a company, negotiating with suppliers, and managing contracts to ensure the best value and quality for the organization. They're responsible for strategic sourcing, vendor selection, and maintaining supplier relationships. Purchasing, on the other hand, is a broader term that encompasses the entire process of acquiring goods and services, including activities like requisition, order placement, and transactional processing. It's more of a tactical function within the procurement process. So, while the roles share similarities, a buyer tends to have a more strategic focus on sourcing and supplier management, while purchasing involves more operational tasks related to placing orders and managing transactions. If you're interested in expanding your knowledge and exploring new opportunities within your company's procurement department, the buyer position could be a great fit for you! It offers a chance to delve deeper into strategic sourcing and vendor management, broadening your skill set and opening up new avenues for career growth. I hope this helps clarify things for you!
