To give you an idea of how great Ali was, let me say that Holmes was a sensational boxer with a killer jab who always showed up ready to fight. He had excellent skills and was a solid quality boxer. And with the preceding stated, Ali still would have found a way had not he used or abused those pills

No dude Ali already washed up , I don't think that Ali had enough skill to expose Holmes's vulnerability. After 1975 he suddenly lost everything he had in terms of skill.

If Ali didn't falter due to the medication issue he would have found a way to remain competitive in this fight and most likely have come on strong in the later rounds to stick and move and outpoint Holmes. He was light in weight to do exactly that. Rope a dope early and then float , stick and move as it went on. Ali would have won this fight because he was a superior boxer and had the experience to stay away and stick. Ali had this fight until he decided to be his own doctor and abuse those Tyroid pills. So it came time to fight but he had become so thin and listless that the whole plan failed.

Ali looked amazing at 7:54 during his roadwork. But the Thyroid medicine kept allowing him to drop weight. Bad medical advice at the time. Or he didn't listen to good advice if it were offered. But I think if he hadn't lost that weight and had better medical direction there would have been a contest

Smith proved that if continuous pressure was applied to Witherspoon - he might be dangerous for a few seconds - but will fall. Bruno kept stepping back and letting Witherspoon recover.

JBS aka Crusher, the opportunist and academist with lethal hands as a late substitute seized a lifetime opportunity in this fights which Champion, Terrible Tim Witherspoon approached with complacency in his usual "I no go quick style". Crusher blew him out in quick time in the ultimate Gay-la-spectacle. I've watched this finds tens of times over the years since that might in 1986 or so. Sadly, the durable and quality Witherspoon never again fought for the title after this fight, thanks in no measure to Boxing politics and to his audacity to have taken on the Legendary promoter Don King of yesterday fame in court over contract dispute.

Bonecrusher took a gamble and came in guns a blazing. It could have worked against him -- Tim was throwing bombs at him in return. But it payed off and he got a sensational victory. Tim was still great, but he lost this time fair and square.

Paquaio was young and at this stage was a brawler. He got hit more than when he became a boxer puncher. He hadn’t developed his famous foot work yet and his punch combinations were maybe 3 punches. I did see him use more of the right hooks that he would perfect later under Freddy Roach. Simbajon was in shape and had a tough chin. He took a lot of punishment and never quit. I have to say he’s a warrior. Great action fight.

@@mozfonky name the fight post 75 where he got helped. You can't be awful and win in boxing. I agree on the other things you said though. 1st fight after Manilla was a ko the next fight against young wasn't the best but he won especially since young was putting his head through the ropes. Then koed Dunn which was his final ko. 77 against evangelista he was solid but not great Shavers he fought well both were unanimous decisions. Spinks in 78 he was out of shape and still managed to win like 4 to 5 straight rounds after falling behind doing the rope a dope and came back months later and gave him a boxing lesson. Awful is not the word. Can't be that and be the lineal champ.

@@mozfonky I've never heard people thought he lost to Shavers. Especially since they let his corner know after every round who won. He beat Norton. I've seen that fight many times I've scored it the same every time. Young dud nothing but duck in the ropes. That was a disgrace. Btw Shavers were all but out in the 15th. Can't happen with awful fighting.

It was all about finances, at this point. I have read that Ali was not very good at handling money and was overly generous to those around him. At age 38, he should have been on the front porch of a beautiful home, reminiscing about the old days, with millions in the bank. His purse was said to have been 8 million for this fight..
