This is what happens when you don't expect your opponent to be fired up to win! James Smith probably trained himself half to death for this fight!

@@beans3158 Nah, I think you need to do some research pal. Witherspoon couldn't get a penny ahead while being managed by King, despite have a fine career up to the 2nd James Smith fight - that fight was about as believable as the Sonny Liston & Ali rematch.😂😂🤣🤣
@beans3158Ай бұрын
@@thelstanedwardsson4374 I’m aware of his situation with king, but the phantom punch and this fight are nowhere near similar. James smith hits like a train so there’s still a good chance it would’ve gone the same regardless, you could argue he didn’t train for the fight though because he seemed out of shape and completely caught off guard by bone crushers volume.
@scotth9857 Жыл бұрын
Not that he would’ve won, but this is what Smith should’ve done vs. Tyson. He wasn’t particularly skilled as a boxer, but his punches could lay anyone out if they hit home.

Bonecrusher took a gamble and came in guns a blazing. It could have worked against him -- Tim was throwing bombs at him in return. But it payed off and he got a sensational victory. Tim was still great, but he lost this time fair and square.

Tim was notoriously inconsistent. When he was on, he was a match for anyone at heavyweight at the time (ask Larry Holmes). Tyson would have destroyed him on his best day, but you can see here that Tim is not in great shape. I believe this resulted in the first heavyweight champion with a college degree if I'm not mistaken.

Witherspoon said years later that after getting robbed of his full purse in the Frank Bruno bout and others, throwing this fight would sever his relationship w/ Don King permanently. Even if Witherspoon won and faced Tyson he figured most of his pay would disappear in King's and his son Carl's pockets anyway.

This is the weirdest fight I’ve ever seen, Bonecrusher Smith is so effective yet looks like an amateur swinging wildly to the point that even Wilder would have to laugh, fell over 30 seconds in, hit Witherspoon with half a dozen rabbit punches, clinched a hundred times, etc.

Bonecrusher was always very limited but he was strong and had some power and that was enough to beat a couple decent fighters.

JBS aka Crusher, the opportunist and academist with lethal hands as a late substitute seized a lifetime opportunity in this fights which Champion, Terrible Tim Witherspoon approached with complacency in his usual "I no go quick style". Crusher blew him out in quick time in the ultimate Gay-la-spectacle. I've watched this finds tens of times over the years since that might in 1986 or so. Sadly, the durable and quality Witherspoon never again fought for the title after this fight, thanks in no measure to Boxing politics and to his audacity to have taken on the Legendary promoter Don King of yesterday fame in court over contract dispute.

One has to feel sorry for Tim Burned alive by Don King I remember watching a documentary aired in the UK about King and his shitty ways. As Witherspoon was being interviewed, there was noise outside. As Witherspoon, followed by the camerman, looked out the window, there was his car being repossessed. With the right promotion team amd management behind him, Witherspoon could easily made all time great status. Such a shame
