Great video. Have you tried or do you have advice on the Nikon 500mm PF and 180-600mm lens?
@sturousephoto3 сағат бұрын
Unfortunately not - however, as a rule of thumb, a 500mm prime will be much sharper than a zoom lens. But I have no experience of these lenses I’m afraid!

12:12 Where is this? Is it at the entrance to the park? I've visited Maryon Park four times over the years, the first being in 1999 and the last in 2007. On my first visit, I was struck by how much the surrounding area had changed (it's practically unrecognisable) but fortunately the park is pretty much the same although it isn't as well tended as it was when the film was made.

Some cracking images and also enjoyed the drone footage. Did you need to focus stack and exposure blend or did the original images work with more standard processing?
@sturousephoto28 күн бұрын
Thank you, much appreciated! Great question - actually I ended up using the images captured with the 3-stop ND Grad. The images with the foreground poppies in sharp focus I thought were sufficiently sharp in the distance - not pin sharp but acceptably sharp to my eyes. So in short, no stacking or blending for the 3 sunrise shots, just the usual level of processing.

great video!!! am just starting out and have a Canon 75-300mm ... should I bother with a 2x extender or just stick with the 300mm?
@sturousephoto29 күн бұрын
Personally, I think if you’re just starting out I’d stick to the 75-300. When you feel like you need a longer focal length or better quality, that’s the time to upgrade. Use the 75-300 to practice your technique before investing any further. That’s what I’d suggest, for what it’s worth. Good luck, enjoy!

Can these lenses take photos of high altitude planes leaving those white trails?

I shot some birds for the first time when I got this lens and the results were absolutely stunning, then I tested it on people and they were very soft and way less sharp. Shot a spots event and the images were sharp and few blurry. I wonder if buying the tap-in console would make a difference.
@sturousephoto29 күн бұрын
I had mine professionally calibrated and it didn’t really help I’m afraid to say. They used the tap in console to apply the calibrated corrections. I concluded that the lens is just too soft with too much unreliable focussing for my liking.

Thanks Andrew. Definitely worth going and investigating the options these days! The joke of it is there’s a kind of viewing grandstand (if you can even remotely call it that) by the Heathrow Academy - it’s the wrong side of the cap park and there’s loads of trees interrupting the view. Sadly, the days of the viewing deck on the Queens Building are long gone. Same story at Gatwick. As for my processing - it’s still the same, but perhaps the photos look different because I’m photographing shiny colourful jets for a change, instead of grey F15s! Cheers! 👍🏻

Be interested in hearing your thoughts on the 2 big primes 10 months down the line. Got a few air shows lined up this year and need to invest in a decent lens
@sturousephoto2 ай бұрын
Thanks Craig, good question! You know, I stand by my decision with those two lenses and I’m still very happy with them. The 400 blows me away every single time I use it, it really is an exceptional lens if you think you can live without image stabilisation, but problem solved if you have mirrorless IBIS! Equally the 300 is just as exceptional. Even with a 2x extender the 300 produces amazing results in most conditions, but even more so with great light. If sharpness and clarity are what you are after then I still wholeheartedly recommend these lenses over a superzoom, even more so after 10 months! But like I said on my other video, the 400 prime is a bargain!
