Run it on petrol and see if diesel is working. If so you run it till it's warm then sneak up the throttle till you get a bit of black smoke . Diesel is mixing with petrol in engine then drop the change over and it will go. The change over lever does a complete change , drops the decompression valve and also cuts the petrol and sparks . Well actually it closes off the petrol ignition chambers which increases the compression for diesel running.

Pool valve cover off and make sure the decompression release valves are down to run on gasoline up to run on diesel fuel

The carburetor is fixed, air set. You can’t control the idle speed on it. Make sure you got fuel going to that carburetor.

No we haven’t had it run either way. We may have had the timing 180’ off.

Depends on your needs. The tractor is a POS, no arguing that. Had a friend that ran one, he hated it, but it got the job done. Good luck!

It looks to me like they will all pull equally about the same. I worked out in the North Dakota oil field a while back. There is a lot of agriculture in that state. Probably 95 to 98% of the state is wheat. There was several of those older style Versatile tractors there. Those looked like a good puller. I originally was a logger for 10 years in western Washington & ran several types of skidders. Some were amazing how much they could pull.

With it running on gas, bring the throttle up to about 1/2 and bleed the diesel side. It will inject diesel while running on gas with the throttle open. If you aren’t getting fuel at the injectors the rack in the pump could very well be stuck.
@J_Nproductions6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info. I’ll have to get on it soon. I was unable to run it on gas as well. So the to do list is piling up.

No need to convert them to 12 volt. Unless finding 6 vac batteries are heard in your area, a well maintained 6 vac system will start perfectly. I have a Super A on original 6 vac and it starts on the first crank and charges perfectly. Again up to you 😅

Don't know the exact procedure for switching from petrol to diesel but when you open the throttle for the diesel it should switch off the half compression which it uses for running on petrol 👍

Check with just a few acres he has one that starts on diesel and gas start
@anthonymichaels90346 ай бұрын
Are you getting fuel at injector lines? crack them open at injector if you have fuel with it running on gas. it could be an issue with the switch over control. This engine has an extra set of valves to lower compression for it to start and run on gasoline. If you remove the valve cover you can see the lever and compression valve set up could be stuck open which would cause lower compression, Good Luck.

Good day from Ontario. So this is in BC. This wan't taken 2 days ago U would have colder weather than that? Was that a train horn ? The 1st W-6 I don't think is super. Go to #4 spark plug it should say 264 cu in Emblem on front says older The w-6 on wagon has 4 bar steering wheel, probably 18 in front tires & it is 53-54 ?? Don't know nothing about gas-diesel Ty Frank from Alberta knows all about older IH tractors. Thanks

Great video. I had a White 4-180 with the Cat 3208 210HP. I used it for many years and sold it to another farmer when I retired. It pulled a 8-16 Oliver plow anywhere, never short of power. I loved that tractor!

You'd think a spare battery and jumper cables would be worth 3 hours of fecking around but I guess not... 3208 is no different to any other engine - if it's operated within specs and maintained correctly, it'll perform satisfactorily. Run it at rated speed, which I think is 2800. 1900 is too low if it is under moderate or higher load
@J_Nproductions6 ай бұрын
Thanks , I definitely have to rev it up more. We are obviously used to the inline 6 tractors. And yes I spent 3-4 hours with excellent jumper cables, cracking injector lines etc. just didn’t film that part. Couldn’t get good fuel pressure. In hindsight, it was just gummed up fuel at the injector pump but didn’t want to get in that deep so far from home.
@mikewarpula9116 ай бұрын
3208 is like any diesel it needs to spin good to start.flow timing the engine will help some on power and a lot on cold start up smoke.the also had pencil injectors need to be checked and cleaned from time to time.later 3208s had turbos good engine ,like any thing good maintenance .

Great looking tractor. I have a 4-175 and I usually put the underdrive in low to change gears. One must stop to change gears anyhow and its easier on the clutch to start moving in low range. Plus one can experience the snap as the underdrive shifts up. Never get tired of that. I noticed your 4-210 is missing the two shields that protect the oil pan and underdrive, cheap insurance you might want to look into. A little TLC for all the years of abuse and you will have a solid tractor. Keep the revs up on the cat. One of the big problems I believe was that farmers were use to an Inline 6 which had a lower pto rpm rating on the engine. Being creatures of habit they operated the cats the same way. What kills the cat is lugging them. I do not have the preheater in the intake or a heater for the water but I never had a problem with starting the cat well below freezing. It will smoke a lot on startup but will soon purr. My tractor when worked hard likes to sip oil so keep an eye on that. Keep us updated on your progress.

Looks like a good tractor. I had a 4-175 turned up to 210 and it was really good tractor. Your shift linkage could be wore leading to the hard shifting. Whites also shift easier when in underdrive because it releases the pressure off the power shift clutches
