Great. I prefer 3D surface. For Necromunda, I made several, more sci-fi with grids, squares, pipes and so on, a little like GW tiles. I think they are awesome, but it took me a LOT of time

Yes this project seemed to take a lot of time for how simple it was but I think it was worth it.

I would love to see this continued with hills or hillside tiles!

Yes thank you, I know I will make at least 2 more tiles for this setting so I may give mountains a go
@deltapi8859Ай бұрын
most boards on KZfaq are cluttered and filled where they try to make them look realistic. But eventually you'll have an annoying time with these boards because minis and troops can't maneuver. I think if war gamers were honest they would build boards like yours :D

Thank you! I figure if I want more detail I can add it with scatter terrain.

Those look so much better than a battle mat. I'm going to give this a try too. The magnets were a really good idea. Thanks for sharing!!!

@capnskustomworksАй бұрын
They turned out looking awesome! I love the magnets for modularity.
@thriftminisАй бұрын
Thank you, a person could probably use large refrigerator magnet for this also. They really are not that necessary if you wanted to skip that step. I just had magnets on hand and thought it couldn't hurt.
@Christian_from_CopenhagenАй бұрын
Well done! I prefer a textured surface as well, so I made an acrylic battlemat that covers the largest table we have that matches my DIY terrain and miniature bases. I've thought of trying something like this as well, but I don't think I have the space for it. The mat is quite long, but it fits under the bed when not in use.
@thriftminisАй бұрын
That's great, I made a lot of sketches trying to figure out how I was going to do a board. Those DIY acrylic mats are cool and I may give making one of those a try at some point. Do they have an odor like acrylic caulk? Or does that go away?
@Christian_from_CopenhagenАй бұрын
@@thriftminis There's a slight smell, but nothing major. I made a combat patrol sized mat before I committed to a larger mat, although it took about as long to do the bigger one later. The nice thing about the bigger mat is that the edges tend to curl up a bit, but that doesn't matter when the texture extends beyond the table edge. With the smaller one I'd stack some bookstacks in each end 15-20 minutes before a game and that fixed the issue.
@thriftminisАй бұрын
@@Christian_from_Copenhagen Thanks thats good to know. I will have to figure out a solution for the curling edges if I ever do it and share it with everyone. Goods stuff
@ZenMiniPaintingАй бұрын
Completely agree on the neoprene battlemats, not tactile enough for my tastes. This is an elegant solution that looks achievable by most hobbyists. I suppose storage might be an issue in a small home.
@thriftminisАй бұрын
Hey how have you been?! Thank you, I agree storage could be an issue for some. I have them stacked on a top shelf in my office. That is the primary advantage of a mat. Maybe i will do a desert as a big 4x6 caulk and sand battlemat? We will see.
@MRaadesignАй бұрын
Nice work! I prefer boards like this rather than battle mats. But I've seen some good battle maps built so they have their place too. I don't like the printed mats OR boards. They are nice, but I like to build and paint my stuff.
@thriftminisАй бұрын
Hey, I like some of the battle mats also, particularly those made with caulk and textured. I think the commercial ones are still cool but like we both said we would rather something that ties in better with our terrain.
@chazinchargeАй бұрын
Dude!! This terrain is so awesome! I love how much of it is rehashed materials.

Great conversions dude. Very much the same minis I used for my scavies. Just missing the Scalies, and I'd be interested to see how you kitbash them. I have used my stand in kroxigors and given them weapons from my Landsnecht ogres force.
@thriftminisАй бұрын
Kroxigors is a cool idea! Ideally I will find the original metal Scalies at at some point but if I dont i have considered kit bashing Reaper bones trolls since they kind of look the part. I would make 2 holding gun stocks that were magnetic so the could swap harpoons or cannons and 2 others with hand to hand weapons. The trolls are only about $4 each. I found a Karloth Valois at my local game store for about $8 in the blister pack so I hope I just keep getting lucky with old models. Thanks for watching!

Love the cheapness. Inexpensive terrain is the best. This looks as good or better than a lot of terrain built with ultra-expensive hobby kit. One note about fires in buildings - If you create V-patterns at the openings, if gives a real sense of reality.
