The vents on the diffs clog up. I cleaned mine which had excess gunk, I ended up drilling the vent filter with holes because it was also clogged.

yeah the diff but the gears id say are fine especially with it being a diff carrying assembly its the bearings for left and right axle and would check the back lash cause the pinion bearing prolly bad too the usually sound like this when the bearings get worn. The dealer prolly over filled it put thicker oil to quite it down so it would last outside warranty to screw here over

Keep on being the honest person you are. There’s still a few out there but there’s way more who will take advantage of a person in a situation like this. I looked at this video twice and it was kind of hard to tell but if that tire near the beginning was mounted on the rear it looked like a directional tire tread and it was on the wrong way ( I couldn’t see the whole surface of the tire’s treads all the way across so that could possibly not be the case ). I have seen DIYers and even tire shops put the directional tires on the wrong way many times before.

My passenger side vents just randomly started blowing hot air today…on a 95F day! I feared the worst but right on YT to hopefully find an answer. Oddly first time I did it no change. I went through just about every combination of blend door movements (location and temperature). Thought I’d try the procedure one more time and WALLA!

You can losen the bolt on the pick up tube and tie a a string or tip tie around it so you dont have to remove the oil pan

Hi I have jeep Cherokee wj and I have a noise coming from the rear axle of your vehicle, which only occurs when turning left and lasts for a minimum of 5 seconds. The noise disappears if you stop pressing the acceleration pedal, and it might be related to low speeds. The tires are old and will replace them soon but i wonder if there was a differential issue why the sound only happens during the turn. Thanks

was quoted $2000 to replace rear diff on a 2014 xterra.... and no option to rebuild mine, or for a new rebuilt, only a used diff, I guess pulled from a wreck.... does this sound correct?

@@FalconsGarage thank you. are there no options to rebuild or new? he found a junkyard (I guess) unit with similar mileage, but to me, seeing as mine failed, it seems pointless to point on another with similar mileage, it will just fail again. and I dont consider the drivetrain consumable, it should certainly last way more than 90k which is when mine started to go bad. thanks for your input.
@FalconsGarage
@FalconsGarage 13 күн бұрын
@@xisotopex several things here. 1.- As far as a rebuild it really depends on the amount of damage to the housing internally. Sometimes of the damage is too much it’s unrepeatable. 2. - it depends on the year of your car .. could be too old for a new one. 3.- depends on the shop it was taken too. To rebuild one requires specialty tools that they might not have and it’s more const efficient for them just to replace. Because if they rebuild they will have to warranty the work. 4.- there are specialty shops that that’s all they do work on differentials and driveshafts so they might be able to help 5.- as far as only lasting 90k yeah that isn’t allot. But was maintance kept up with it? Also it could have had a leak somewhere and then it ran dry? And sometimes things just break. But yeah 90 ir very low for it to fail. Hope that helps
@xisotopex
@xisotopex 13 күн бұрын
@@FalconsGarage thank you for your response....so, it hasnt failed yet.... still drives, still goes into 4X4, but its going bad, so I guess I want to be preemptive... 90k isnt a lot for a 2014 nissan xterra.... just recently was told the transfer case had a leak, so when they repaired that, they replaced I guess the rear drive shaft, from the transfer case to the rear differential... could that be related? dont see that it would be, or could be, but maybe?..... as far as maintenance... whats the interval for the rear diff service? maybe every 50k miles or so?
@FalconsGarage
@FalconsGarage 13 күн бұрын
@@xisotopex I don’t think replacing the driveshaft would damage the differential as they don’t have to go “inside” the differential to do this. It bolts to the outside. Yeah between 30-60k fuild change is normal

Not too bad took an hour to get out and an hour to get back together my advice is take off the brackets for the air box to reach the bottom Freon lines easy. Also used a ratchet wrench for the 6 crossbar bolts not that bad
