Dear N scale dystopia, cool idea to do a station platform inside the dog bone! Might be that you’ll be able to create a convincing scene by keeping the platform low, as low as just under stirrups of the regular cars. With a higher platform it may look odd for the necessary overhang clearance. Never saw the ‘mind the gap’ moving platforms modeled before, plus such a level of animation in N scale maybe a ‘bridge’ too far. Nevertheless, I have been sketching how to model such a feature in HO scale. Especially those kinds of moving platforms that bump out a section towards the door openings. Love that Canadian National consist, I’m sure you’ll able to tweak that number plate. Do understand the divergence from the scratch built Union Station to the, let’s say, modular wall approach. Just liked the mock up design way better. The modular approach may have the advantage that you’ll be able to complete the structure more quickly. Question is, is it worth it? As long as the mock up stands in, you’ll be able to get the other projects going. I’m very sure in the meantime you’ll be getting new insights into solving any design issues with the placement and its form. But of course that’s just my viewpoint, no pressure here. Cheerio

I hope you plan to include the iconic Bulova tower for your midway! Recreating the classic Ex sounds like a fun challenge. There is one min-scene on my layout of people in line for a packed (Rapido) TTC bus headed to the Ex.

Was eagerly waiting for the update. Seems like there are quite some spicy challenges ahead, and I can really relate. It's not hard to come up with an idea for such a layout, but it is _very_ hard to come up with an idea that feels like it really fits the task. You can have a dozen or so ideas but you're never really happy with them and then you get one, that feels like it just "snaps into place". That being said, I like the lowered station platforms, even just in that state, it looks much better than the rounded edges (maybe that's cause the lowered platforms are what I am familiar with here in Germany as well?). The layout for the left-hand loop is also quite an intriguin idea. Come to think about it, it adds a bit of vertical variety, so to speak. It feels more lifelike and "lived in", when there are multiple levels and everything isn't just sitting on the flat table. Looking forward to see it come together!

I like what you are doing with your layout, sometimes "Trial & Error" is the best way to go, I too spend too much time with "Procrastination" and don't get much done...........I'm almost done with repairs to my layout that was caused a month ago when I went to separate two of the layout sections and ended up with damaged track and wood work on my staging yard........I've got 4 weeks yet until the N scale weekend in Altoona PA to gets things in working order and am working like a mad man at getting things done.

Would you have any interest in seeing a prototypical CP Canadian in O-scale? If you've not visited before, I would like to extend an invite to you for an upcoming ops day at the Model Railroad Club of Toronto at the end of this month. Let me know!

Your layout is coming along great! I totally understanding layout progress slowing down as you consider and plan the next steps, especially if it's complicated. That's how it's been with my layout currently. Your channel has been a big inspiration for starting my own, figuring out branding, and a standard in production. Keep up the good work!

I love the concept of taking a cherished personal experience and adding it to your layout. I just did the same by adding a railfan figure to my layout for a trip i took with my kids. My only practical feedback is to approach it in a more pop up way where you're not fixing amusements to the space and can reconfigure, add, subtract or add seasonal flair without having to go back in and redo a lot of work.

Oooh, I like that idea. Could be a really nice touch to be able to swap out a few things and change the amusement park from, say, a Halloween theme to a Christmas theme.

Love the idea of the train circling the midway. It’s going to be a great scene. Can’t wait to see how you make the zombies, I mean the carnies, well… same thing? Maybe not, I’m not scared of zombies.

What software are you using to model parts for your 3D prints?
@NScaleDystopia2 күн бұрын
I lay out the basic dimensions of the parts using Adobe illustrator, and then I import those into a software modeling program called rhino. This is a less conventional approach but it works well for me as those are programs that I'm familiar with.

I don't know if you're on Facebook but Emerson Case of the Windsor club is building the Union Station train shed and is currently working on all the steel arches for the train shed. They' re 3D printed I believe and in N scale. He updates on Canadian Railway modeller page. Anyway I enjoy your honest updates since this hobby is fun but also involves effort and sometimes a struggle and I appreciate you being frank and realistic about your progress.

I'm quite familiar with Emerson! His Union station is the best I've ever seen and I can honestly say as part of the reason it's taking me so long to progress...
