Gobsmacked! How many fatalities have we had in MotoGP…..Dare I say it More riders @TT are killed. Do they close the race or restrict bikes no… BTW this racing goes over the entire world how is it 2 of the DORNA board has 2 family members and several other family members involved. This decision can’t be made by people with vested interest in broadcasting rights internationally, international representation must come from several countries not tied into 4 members reigning from Spain and Italy. FYI DORNA recently sold to Liberty Media (F1) for ~18 billion dollars….. Dorna has made their money they don’t care about MotoGP… Simply disgusting

Still a lot of weight over the rear axle.. Porsche could've packaged some of the electronics & the radiator at the front improving 50/50 weight distribution % s. & thus, making maintance easier in the engine bay due to more space.....

@benzina5917Күн бұрын
Very interesting and well explained thank you. I believe Porsche is playing with words a little bit in their description of the system only adding 50kg. They advertise that the car has only increased weight by 50kg yet they make things like the rear seats together with the seatbelts, etc a 'no cost' option. This allows them to advertise a lower weight where the real road cars that most people order will be heavier.

If this engine has the proper geometry for high rpm workloads modified it will break all Huracan records (assuming a company crazy enough to modify them)... That's why you see GTR eclipse 3000 HP and Lambo's V10 struggle past that despite the displacement advantage... their piston speeds hurts them (You can't engineer yourself out of a long stroke design).

My idea for 2030 would be simpler and cheaper: N/A, 2.8L V8 with 40V (5 valves per cylinder), variable valve timing, lift and duration are allowed (including camless engines), 15k RPM limit, dual injection (direct injection via pre-chamber + port injection), twin-spark (one in the pre-chamber and the other out of it), micro-wave ignition allowed, and with and MGU-K in the crankshaft, with most parts (batteries, e-motors, injectors, sparks/microwave igniters, ECUs and radiators) being standalone to keep the costs down, and all of them using e-fuel.

So let me get this straight. VW group joining F1 was conditional on having an engine formula that they liked and was relevant to road cars. F1 is removing the mgu-h because it was deemed to be too expensive to be viable for road cars. VW group officially agreed to join F1 and simultaneously made the first mass produced car with an MGU-H. A car that is not prohibitively expensive compared to others in its segment. Makes so much sense….
@wiegraf9009Күн бұрын
The F1 MGU-H was obviously orders of magnitude more difficult to build and get right than something on a road car. Also in this case VW group don't have to be worried about everyone else being better than them at building one, since it's just built to their own performance targets.

I think its awesome and I'm sure Lambo will do it justice with the noise it produces, but i can note that with many very high end tuner 4cyl 10k RPM is always one of the weirdest sounding RPMs, Toyota, Hondas namely that i have heard. Very different engine but assuming this is flat-plane and basically 2x inline 4s i still wonder how it will turn out as with some (not all but many) of those cars 9k sounds awesome, 11k sounds extreme, something odd about 10k engines some of the time although its usually a rare target since it has most the cost of the 11k engines with less results, just a bit less risk/higher (relative) longevity. These are all 7-8k engines with extreme high end parts, for racing not production, not bespoke production ones though. Some of the oddness i likely mention is just that said engines are usually mostly using design changes and tech from 11k engines, so they naturally sound like they are shortshifting.
@mullayho17592 күн бұрын
Is the MGUH connected directly to the shaft?! I tought they used planetary gears or something. The rpm must be crazy for that electric motor. The single bigger turbo probably helps with that, smaller twin turbos would spin even faster

What's brilliant is that manufacturers are now starting to utilise the MGUH concept, just before it's removed from F1

With the way the EU is hell bent on strangling the life out of their own car industry, Porsche might need to start looking for more creative solutions elsewhere soon.
@wiegraf9009Күн бұрын
The EU has been very accommodating come on. It's not regulations that are giving them the biggest problems. It's the cost of energy, the cost of labour vs. China, and the cost building new plant and equipment when Chinese manufacturers can start with the best on a clean slate. These things are all part of a pattern we've seen repeat time and again in the auto industry as new manufacturers start up in new countries.

Instead of this whole expensive tech - use expensive materials to make the car lighter, and thus fuel efficient. And bring back N/A engines.
@wiegraf9009Күн бұрын
The car would be astronomically expensive, and this has already been tried with things like the Lexus LFA. The weight savings you get on an NA car by not having a whole turbo system are way more expensive per unit of power than the cost of adding a hybrid turbo. The only advantage of an NA engine at this point is the sound it makes, and if you are tracking the car the ease of servicing it.
@jareknowak8712Күн бұрын
@@wiegraf9009 I roughly agree. The lack of turbo and hybrid systems alone gives savings of about 150 kg. These are not the only advantages of N/A. If it were all as simple as You think, why did Porsche decide to make the GT3 N/A?? Is there a lack of power/performance because of this??
@Dakkyun17 сағат бұрын
@@jareknowak8712how about keep the turbo and MGU-H and ditch the piston engine for a Jet Turbine combustion chamber, way less moving parts. The only thing you need to look after now are the bearings. Plus way less weight

@@mullayho1759 These 11 kW do not pump the entire amount needed to reach 500 hp. It is only used to pump at low speeds (and probably not to the maximum pressure), so its expenditure is relatively small. I know ultralight planes that use that much power to take the plane from the ground to the sky, I'm not kidding. However, it may be that they used such an engine, but powered it with less power due to its failure-free operation and relatively difficult operating environment.
