I loved the Silica catalogues and remember taking my Atari STE to their main Sidcup store to get the internal PSU fixed and a 1024 memory upgrade fitted. My dad had a friend who had the A4 Silica reseller catalogue which blew my mind as it was in the same style but with less pictures and had extra columns showing the cost, suggested sale price and reseller margins. Later Silica opened concessions in Debenhams as part of their World Of Bright Futures (still have the badge) however all the arcade games attracted criminal gangs so it was eventually scaled back before Silica went bust. Such a great company apparently they ended up owing money to everyone including the milkman.

I always used to use an analog joystick with my Amiga flight-sims. Knights of the Sky. Wing Commander. MiG-29 Fulcrum. Reach for the Skies. B17 Flying Fortress. Gunship. Gunship 2000. They all worked superbly with an Amiga and an analog joystick adapter. It completely changes the way you play those type of games.

It seems that early issues of the game have that loose heat shield. So basically most that got the comic more than likely got the rattling cart. My copy didn't rattle and I didn't get the comic. I agree with you regarding the packaging. It's nice admittedly and really good quality but a clamshell would have been better. If it was to accommodate the much larger manual I wished they'd gone with a neo geo style shock box option. That would have been cooler in my opinion.

A bunch of users on the SEGA16 forums found a workaround for the compatibility issue with the 1601 Model 1, which is to have it hooked up to either a Mega CD or a 32X. www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?35392-Faulty-Paprium-Carts-TOPIC So if you have either of the add ons i guess it's worth a shot. The tracking states that my parcel arrived in the UK today so i'll hopefully be receiving mine shortly :)

I’ve seen some workarounds- unfortunately I don’t have a 32x or Mega Cd. It’s a pain when WM Game Factory make a big thing of this ONLY working on original hardware, no 3rd party consoles. :(

Hey, thanks for the video. Nice to see someone else doing the same as me and coming up against issues. I bought a DMP 3160 a good while back. came with everything, box, inserts, manuals.. even the original plastic bags for the manuals, ribbon cable and printer etc. Sadly mine is a beige (yellowed) one, so doesn't look anywhere near as nice as yours. After hooking mine up and going to print a document, I got nothing from the amstrad(s). I tried it on an old laptop with a parallel port and it printed from there. So I have no idea what's going on with mine. I'll need to look into it at some point. I checked the dip switches etc, still nothing. No one on the CPC wiki had any pointers either sadly.
@satchman2000retro3 жыл бұрын
Hi, glad you enjoyed it! It was really frustrating trying to work out what was going on; turns out the printer itself was playing up. Even with a new cable it didn’t play. I didn’t check the control board closely, so there may be something going on there that I hadn’t noticed. These things become an obsession.. “ I WILL get you working!!” :) good luck in your quest :)
@satchman2000retro3 жыл бұрын
Had a look at the manual for the 3160; there are more dip switches than the DMP-2000, but one to check is switch 5 in bank 2 (SLCT IN Signal) - make sure that is on. One mine, if that’s off there’s zero response. Fingers crossed you get it going :)
@satchman2000retro3 жыл бұрын
Also, have you tried with the simple print #8, “test” to see if the CPC does anything rather than from an application?
@gee-k58543 жыл бұрын
@@satchman2000retro yeah tried that and got nothing. the computer Pauses like it's printing (as you said about what you did in your childhood haha!) but nothing happens at the printer. I'll have a look at the dip switches again. Strange how it works on a "modern" laptop but not the Amstrad.
@satchman2000retro3 жыл бұрын
@@gee-k5854 yeah, it’s weird. My original DMP2000 worked fine on my Amiga, which led me to believe it was the cable I was using, but even the proper cable didn’t solve it. The joys of retro hardware :) Hope you get it going bud; keep me posted :)

BTW - If you need a replacement ribbon at any point for the printer it seems impossible to find a replacement (unless you want 100 units) but I managed to get mine working by purchasing a roll of typewriter ink ribbon but I was unable to find any the required width so I cut it down to size using a hot wire (search for "foam cutter" for more info, they are easy to build). I then tried joining the ends with some very thin tape but this did work but not very well, much better to join it using a plastic bag sealing device (search for "impulse sealer") which on max setting does a very good job. I bought myself a bottle of ink pad ink which does a good job of re-inking it.
@satchman2000retro3 жыл бұрын
Great to know, thank you. Might do a video on it if I give it a go :)
@alanesq13 жыл бұрын
@@satchman2000retro It was a while ago I did it so can't remember the exact details now but trimming it to size I just lined it up with something and pulled it through the wire by hand with surprisingly good results. You could probably join it with a hot knife blade or something but I already had the tool. I got so fed up battling to keep an inkjet printer functioning that I just gave in and went back to a good old reliable dot matrix :-)
@gee-k58543 жыл бұрын
I've been looking at doing something very similar. But just re-inking the original ribbon with India/china (choose whichever you want) ink. I do love your take on it too though.

Hey David, hope you're keeping well mate! I have really enjoyed picking up games for the Atari VCS over the past 12/18 months. I think it was one of your earliest videos that inspired me to collect some more games for the system. It's amazing how many games that I've found that I've completely forgotten about! I picked up Q-Bert! a little while back, Deadly Discs I've never played before, nor have I seen Venture before. Are they any good?
@satchman2000retro4 жыл бұрын
Venture is good fun, it plays like berserk but there’s a bigger map to traverse rather than just room to room. Worth a look. Tron Deadly Discs is also good, if limited fun. Old video I know but I just took a deep dive into gdemu. I found without too much hassle 32gb, 64gb, and 128gb gdemu images someone is hosting online. Just search those words with Dreamcast and cdi. The 64gb is neat because it’s all neo geo games that run either near perfect or with few issues (metal Slug 1&2 r in there but have semi serious issues). Good collection overall. There’s other collections I found after searching and some might need conversion but most were in compatible formats.
@SEGAGuys4 жыл бұрын
You thought the Dreamcast was underwhelming next to the PS1? That’s a very bizarre statement ... Virtua Fighter 3tb was streets ahead of Tekken 2 (Tekken 3 on PS1 is streets ahead of Tekken 2 on PS1!), but come on, if you worked in retail you’d have got access to all the launch games, and no one could see Soul Calibur of PowerStone running and think they’re “underwhelming” next to the low polygon, textureless, jagged edges visuals on the PS1.
