A fine looking steam locomotive at her absolute best. I 'am curious though, was she home built or exported? Her design looks vaguely American with a mix of British accessories.

Why am I so drawn to the steam trains, it feels like its so alive, especially the horns etc are sounding like a person calling for help. I feel like its alive and I wanna hug the steam train

Rode this train last November - more of a crawler than a flyer now, due to condition of the track and rollingstock. Still, this pads the experience out and makes it last a bit longer.

Excellent video!. I didn't think that a single DBR Locomotive would be able to haul an eight car total train up the spiral so effortlessly.

Impressive! Not only are the Jb class beautiful looking engines but look like powerful hill climbers too. Pound for pound could they be better than 3801? :-) Great vid. Must get to NZ soon!

Magnificent video. The loco seemed to be performing very well. It is a long time since I travelled on the Main Trunk Line- once on the Silver Star and back on the Silver Fern (that shows how long ago), although I did not see much of the beautiful scenery on the Silver Star, it being a night sleeper. On my most recent visit to NZ, I had hoped to video some trains on the Main Trunk Line, but did not see any at all. We even stayed overnight in Ohakune, and stopped at a café alongside the line.

I fired that engine many times. From memory it was a W.A.B convered to A.B. IT HAD DIFFERENT SPRINGING SOME ROAD LIKE A CHAMPION. FIRED IT ON 144 INVERCARGIL TO CHCH EXPRESS 3 TIMES ONE WEEK . (NOT SURE WHY) THE SPRINGING WAS A BIG ADVANTAGE. Barry woodfield.
