The Glenbrook Vintage Railway staged their second East 'n' West Rail Tour between 7-19 July 2022, running their train from the East Coast to the West Coast and down the Middle of New Zealand's North Island.
The train was pulled by their diesel locomotive DBR 1254, which hauled 6 of the GVR's yellow heritage carriages and their AG class guards van.
The tour stopped at many locations en route including Ohakune, Napier, Masterton (unfortunately not quite by rail due to slips), Palmerston North, New Plymouth and National Park. On days where the tour passengers were not onboard and taken on journeys by coach, the train would haul side trips for the locals - with 5 out of 6 of them being sold out well in advance.
This video contains highlights of the tour, and features lineside footage on the lines not often used by passenger trains, onboard action, drone shots from above, and more.
Being onboard crew on the length of the tour, there were many days where the time was too busy to get the camera out, so this video only features certain sections of the journey. However we trust you'll enjoy this highlights package!
