I’m new to metazoo but already loving them. I am a huge cryptid and esoteric fan so these cards are so cool. I’m having a lot of fun watching these box openings on youtube and i’m excited to buy my first booster box. I did buy a bundle of holos and reverse holos from cruptid nation 1 online last night so i’m very excited to get them in my binder.

I hate magic cos of the lands system. I play it cos of my friends but I found out whilst playing other card games competitively, the guaranteed resource makes the game determine who is better at the game. In the end those that make better game decisions always get on top.

Zero variance works if both sides are given the same things (like shooters or chess where all players have the same tools and it’s about execution) Variance is good in pre-construction focused games where you bring something prepared that’s unique to you-the existence of variance within the game gives you an opponent to “combat” while constructing the prepared item. Think fog of war in an RTS, dice rolls in dnd, etc… Variance is the thing you prepare for by either minimizing it, or leaning into it, or forcing opponents to stumble through it. Like, imagine a real life battle-random shit happens in reality. Things don’t start at the optimal times, weather, terrain, disease, fatigue, moral, etc… all things are variance. The best generals are not necessarily the ones who are the smartest tacticians/strategists, they are also the ones who mitigates or prepares for variances.

do you think galvanic discharge might be worth it? you can bank energy when killing lower toughness creatures and it gives you something to do with the extra energy when raptor hits a 0 or 1 drop

I might be immediately lost on game one here. Just one high tide, 3 islands, and candelabra can produce as much mana as you need or want, right? So you could just float 60 mana and force your opponent to draw his entire deck with blue sun zenith and die on his draw step, right? 🤔
@user-xm3ue6us7l8 күн бұрын
Disregard. It just occurred to me that you need voltaic key to keep untapping candelabra.

Why do pro players don´t mulligan once their have just one land? Ins´t the risk to big to be taken?
@WeAreOutOfWeed139 күн бұрын
if you can fetch into surveil land and dig deeper for the second land it's fine, this deck specifically doesn't "need" more than 2 lands and is comfortable ending the game with only 3 lands because of the mana reduction and the rituals, but as you obviously see in game 1 there's always the risk of just not finding the 2nd land, honestly I wouldn't recommend doing it first game when you don't know what you're up against.

I think galvanic discharge would be a good addition to the deck to make the raptor a little stronger by making 3 and 4 drops attainable on the regular. Also just a good removal spell.
@elmksan5 күн бұрын
The deck doesn't have 3 or 4 drops
@Kyle_Apgar5 күн бұрын
@elmksan The idea is to now be able to add 3 drops like fable to the deck with the additional energy added and removal. Can also tag things without the focus on delirium for unholy heat.

While Jund is not my favorite 3 color combo(I'm a dirty Grixis, Esper, and occassionally mardu player) , watching Reid play Jund is so fun to watch. It is like getting a master class in sequencing and thinking out your play options. Plus Reid is just a really chill dude so it's also calming to watch.

Always happy to watch Reid play JUND! I'm curious to see how Amp raptor works out, Really want a new BBE, though 1 toughness is still a tough place to be. I'm also curious to see how Wright plays out, IMO this list doesn't have the fodder to fuel it. I wonder if Darcy would work well. Dig for and fuel Nethergoyf.

29:50 I feel like you could write an entire strategy article about this decision point. Most tough choices are difficult because the options are close. This is just tough to evaluate because each of the choices leads to its own complicated set of future lines. In the end, I think there is a clear option, but I sat here with the video paused for about 5 minutes to convince myself that I'd thoroughly evaluated the situation. For what it's worth I end up taking Fatal Push, and I'm fairly convinced it wins a lot more frequently than the next best option. We don't lose all that much by kicking the Grist situation down the road. We're thrilled if we save our Tarfire and they +1, legend rule, -2 on their turn. This blunders into double removal that they probably weren't expecting, and lets us trade Lightning Bolt, Tarfire, and Spellbomb for their entire board while keeping our Wight in play. It avoids the disastrous scenario of the opponent drawing something to pair with the Fatal Push next turn. We keep the option to make a construct which is quite likely to connect with their planeswalkers given our available creature removal. Our opponent's best counter line is probably to maximize their long-term resources by +1ing Grist and using Rec Sage on our Spellbomb to take us off of either a construct or a cantrip. That line continues to be quite complicated, but still favors us compared to the alternatives.

@joelr249 күн бұрын
...AND 0 card draw, so by T5 you got the mana and nothing to cast. With the low curve and the inclusion of Wight and Wrenn, 24 lands is too much. Could cut to 20-22. Maybe get a few modals to even out (Stump Stomp, Bloodsoaked Insight, Revitalizing Repast, etc). I mean, he flooded a few times and it cost him.
