Worked on farms as an agronomist for 25+ years, both mixed and arable. On a dairy farm in West Devon, and the farmer had a series of “interconnected rectangular pens” for selecting cows/cattle. I saw the farmer and he, as I thought, beckoned me over. I stupidly climbed across one pen and then another, to then realise I was in a pen not with cows, but young bulls! Wellie boots do not grip well on a slurry slicked concrete pen, but as these youngsters chased me I slipped and fell under the adjoining bars of the next pen. All I remember is hearing them crash into the bars! Very bent pen bars, and one very embarrassed farm rep! Dirty frightened but in tact! A lesson learned that never left me. Glad your on the mend Aaron 👍👍👍👍

Bottom line, he didn’t have the skill set needed to safely fell the trees. You are supposed to “test” every tree for soundness by hitting it with your axe and or boring. This way he would have known the tree was compromised. It was his fault but “being tired” wasn’t the cause, not having the knowledge and not calling someone skilled enough is what almost killed him.

Dairy bulls are pure hell. I hate seeing those things come off the cattle pots at the beef slaughter plants as a federal meat inspector. They are scary as hell in the antemortem pens and they don't drive worth a damn up the alley into the restrainer. We've had to shoot some in the pens and then bring the carcass into the line because they are unsafe for cattle handlers to push up into the plant. A damn Holstein bull almost killed my dad in 1992 at the beef slaughter plant. They had him in a USDA suspect pen for the veterinary officer to check him and he got my dad cornered. Another cattle receiver saw that pulled dad out, shot the bull immediately. The vet said that more than likely there was something wrong with the brain of that bull that turned him violent.

Just started working at a dairy farm this week. Had me first encounter with a Holstein bull today, took quite a bit to get him to back off and get back to what I was doing safety, thankfully the last cattle operation (angus beef) I learned how to handle bulls by standing your ground and if you want em to move you get them going and never turn your back on them.

My advice would be to stop farming livestock and focus on cereals, pulses, fruits and vegetables. They don't have maternal instincts and won't attempt to protect their progeny if they think you are harming it.

Never turn your back on a Holstein bull. My dad raised a lot of bulls growing up. Herfords, you could actually ride on them. A Holstein bull kills. They get angry fast. Lucky you survived.

Such things don’t happen in my country for sure. Farm accidents are very common in Ireland and uk for some strange reason. Maybe because they always want to get things done in a rush? 🤷🏻♂️

I put weights and a longer axle on my daughter's quad bike. It has never flip over. Quad bike owners fail to realise the back is heavier then the front. A longer axle with weights even out's the quad bike's weight so it wouldn't flip over

Ai the cows you want heifers from and have a Angus or Hereford bull for the rest. Lot better prices for beef cross and those bulls are a lot gentler than freisans. I've worked with a neighbours freisan bull. He was huge about 1200 kg and 12 inch horns. Never any problem, but he was the boss. If he wanted to come in the parlour with the cows, he came in.

@trolleyracingmaster70752 жыл бұрын
You need a mask specifically for hydrogen sulfide. I don’t know why they just don’t buy some anyways, some farmers have special agitators with sensors and fans to stay safe around the gas so they aren’t needed.
