You will be surprised at how much current draw on the primary with no load on the secondary. It will be around 10 amps. If you kept it running for over 20 minutes or more, you couldn't touch it. You need to add some windings to the primary, ( around 30 turns ), because the amount of windings that it came with is wound for max load ( It's under wound for a reason ). That will also knock down the loud buz from the 60hz and the current draw with no load on the primary will be a lot lower ( around 1 amp ). This will not change the secondary output, it just won't catch on fire. I would rather draw 1 amp with no load than 10 amps with no load, and keep my house from burning down.

I used to play Rugby 7 and 15 when I was younger (I am 80 years old now) and still long distance Biking/Triking with NO EL ASSIST and with 65 kg gear and my 112 kg personal weight to carry. Last year I was on a 2.886 Km trip, which took me from Ebeltoft, Denmark to Frederikshavn, Ferry to Gothenburg Sweden and cross over Sweden to Stockholm, Ferry to Turku, Finland, Triking to Helsinki (6 weeks stay in Finland) , Ferry back to Stockholm (2 weeks stay there), Triking along the East Coast , With visit to the Island of Gotland, to Ystad, Ferry to the Danish Island of Bornholm. 2 weeks stay there, Ferry 2 Køge (38 km south of Copenhagen, East Coast of Denmark) and further South-West to the Island of Ærø and back to Ebeltoft. I am thinking of a Trip to Turkey over Austria (the Alps Mountains...). So, I am thinking about EL converting my ICE SPRINT FS Trike and having a solar panel rig mounted above my ZIFLEX Mono wheel Trailer (Similar to the Burley COHO XC trailer) . @9:37 your interpretation of what happenes is wrong. One the chisel is touching both the N end and the iron core at the same time, the magnetic feild can now use the "U" shaped core to complete the feild and make it tighter. This is like completing a circuit and makes the magnetic sticking power stronger. The chisel is replacing the cut off portion of the core

I have the same model but have two issues 1. The power resistor 5k, 1 W, which came with my power supply (65 v, 13 A), gets pretty hot. Is this normal?for 65v it should draw less than 1 W, right? 2. Spark gaps aren't a great way to measure voltage. If you use spark gaps it's better to use spherical electrodes with radius>>gap. There are tables to look up factors for homogeneity of e-fields based on electrode shape (Schwaiger). Most commonly you use spheres or cylinders for this kind of measurement. Spheres being easier.

Those power supplies cannot be sourced for $35. They are typically 10 times that price.

As you said this would be better as a jump starter than a battery replacement.

Would there be a way of telling if this won't work with a bike? Or all of these kits one size fits all?

That's just great, somehow on ended up on this video wasting my time typing on how to put together Acrylic case shell together. Argh!

As far as I am concerned the only helpful part was the last quarter of the video. I stopped the video and use the advancement bar on the bottom to move forward to get still pictures of the finished product, which that helped out greatly. To start a couple of the pieces were thicker and I had to file down the tangs to get them to just fit. Now except for the very top I put the bottom and the sides together first " I didn't but rubber bands probably would have helped to keep things together as you advanced". Next I removed the screws and "long nuts" from the GM328 unit, you will not need them. Next the 4 shorter "long nuts" go on top of GM328 which screw under GM328 into the shorter 2 "long nuts up in front of GM328 and repeat with the longer "long nuts" in the rear. Now drop everything except the acrylics pieces inside of bottom half and use the nuts to attach. Now all that's left is the top 3 acrylic pieces. in order, start with the large piece on the bottom, next the piece that has the cut out for screen and the last whole piece on top. Set it on top of bottom half. I had to squeeze at tang attach area's to make sure they were firmly attached. YOUR DONE. Except you need to make an extension arm for the lever with a tube or something. Sorry I'm still working on it. And Yeah, Patience is the name of the game. Have fun and good luck! I spent about a little over 3 hours, Argh! Lol
