Dilute the dye with alcohol if its alcohol based dye. Then you can apply several coats of diluted dye till you get the desired colour.

why does no one talk about the leveling involving the BLACK LINE?! unfortunately this video is way outdated since the new model doesn't have the stupid black line on the press that indicates where you should be based on your die

I added a fraction of the mahogany dye to some red dye to get the effect I wanted. No matter how much denatured alcohol I added to the mahogany alone, it was still very dark.

Having problem w/ metal dies not imprinting or going through if I make sandwich according to directions. Note: dies are not sizzix brand. Folders are different brand but figured out a different way to make it work. Appreciate your help

You might consider putting a small hole in the mask in areas that don't suck down, eye socks etc, when the vacuum is applied, air may be trapped between mask and leather in airtight pockets and cant escape and suck out. Also consider putting the vacuum hole thats on the bag directly behind the mask so that it isn't obstructed by the other side of the bag at all, create max vacuum suction directly behind the mask pulling everything directly into the skull, this is when those tiny holes will really help.

Just a suggestion. I’ve had success using resolene but diluting it 50/50 with water, and then use a small brush and a light hand. The light the coat the better. And then apply multiple coats. I came to see how you faired with the leather sheen because resolene application takes to long for me.

I do 50/50 as well but it dampen a sponge and rub it in. With alcohol dye it helps spread it out

@@oakridgereview1359 I’ll have to give that a try. I like Resolene because it’s the only thing that seems to seal the dye in well. My biggest qualm is having to treat it with kid gloves because it can scuff so easy. Drives me nuts.

@@Funkbass85 “something something … patina” haha 😂 I don’t disagree. I’ve not had anyone complain YET about the finish. But not to say someone wont ever complain. I airbrush dye my pieces and then within 20min, 50/50 mix with a moderate to heavy coat. Then buff instead of wiping off excess. It helps even out the dye some and gives it a nice slick top.

Do you have any recommendation on a satin leather sealer? I've used Eco Flo Satin Sheen with good results but wanted to see what else is out there. I know Angelus has matte and satin acrylic sealer, but seems people complaining of matte being too glossy. I tried resolene years ago in a test, and that stuff was way too glossy and made leather look like plastic. Though I don't think I cut it 50/50.

This is interesting as I have a Graphtec Craft Robo Pro cutter still laying around. As I used to have an older more dumber type cutter that worked fine, but then sold it as I ended up not doing much vinyl stuff. But then got the Graphtec Craft Robo Pro like a decade ago as someone had it for sell for cheap as it's like a $1k vinyl cutter new. And anyways, the thing would start cutting in the wrong place every time, and sometimes would fritz out and just spin the blade like it was having a siezure. So I stopped using it and haven't messed with vinyl since. But seeing the cheap Circut thing cut into leather. I may get my Graphtec out and do a system reset back to factory settings and see if I can get it cutting like it should. And then see if I could use it to cut the slits for my pyramid spots. As getting everything straight is the most important. I'd still have to use a punch for the cuts that two tangs from the pyramid spots go in that are next to each other. But at least I wouldn't have to mess with a template anymore. Hmmm.

I use the cricut a lot to just score my marks then cut by hand. Definitely easier than following a paper pattern
@colt5189
@colt5189 Жыл бұрын
@@MadameKsMiscellany The nice thing is it would also help keep your cuts straight up and down. I'll have to look for what blades and carriers are available for my Graphtec as I'll have to try this out on some scrap. As I never thought to use a cutter to cut leather before. Though I did get my cutters many many years ago right after I had completed my leather projects that I had wanted to do. And I'm now looking at making more to see if I can sell any of them. What's the biggest pieces you've cut out? I think mine is like a foot long and a food wide, though it's just little narrow slits for my slit punch for metal spots and some circle cuts for grommets. Thanks.

You can actually do this but you need to thicken the liquid. You can use a combination of corn starch and normal lotion to make a thicker paint that will stick to your skin. If your skin is sensitive you can even use professional face paint (like snazaroo) to put down a 'foundation." Once it is dry then use the glow paint on top of that so it doesn't have as much direct contact with your skin. Always test a small amount on your skin first to make sure you do not have an extreme reaction and always make sure the glowsticks you use are Phthalate free!

I have only used predyed leather so far. But how I do my burnishing by just dampening the edge with water and use a wooden tool. It comes out super shiny then I use a clear liquid edge Finnish. That might work good for you is by not blocking the dye from penetrating the leather if you dye it before applying a finish to the edge.

thanks much, very helpful. i've a leather jacket where i'd used some citrus dissolver to remove small flecks of white latex paint and even tho i wiped it off fast and flushed it with leather cleaner, the top coat of the shiny leather was removed on a 4x4 millimeter area. i was looking for something to apply to restore the shiny coat to that very small area and found resolene to be the most suggested. but using it for my specific purpose was never discussed. your video was great in showing how to put the resolene on and what to expect, and it looks as if it will be perfect for my purpose when it arrives in the mail. thanks.

I originally purchased the 45mm as they are cheaper than the 60mm. However I got the 60 for a birthday present and in the last year I haven't picked up the 45. About cutting paper you don't need much pressure, even if you ran off you may not have gone deep as you did. I do have a small and the phone style suction cups for my acrylic rulers, my kids can only use the rotary cutter if they use the suction cup holders. Something to think about. Thanks for taking the time to make the video, good stuff.
