I've always found it funny whenever someone critiques the christian faith even though they have no real knowledge on the religion itself. Like they have never read the bible once and yet think that they absolutely know it's fake, when the points they usually bring up has been debunked for thousands of years at this point. Some of which stretching to the old testament.

As one who once committed suicide and failed (thank God!), I can tell you that suicide is NEVER the answer! EVERYONE who commits suicide goes directly to hell, and is sealed there forever, whether they are Christians or not. The Bible says that it is appointed onto a man once to die, and after this the judgment. You cannot be forgiven for murder once you are already dead. Period. So, whatever it is that you are going through, there is a better way. Run to Jesus Christ, not to the fire.

I mean you probably wouldn't feel it was very intellectually honest if I just said "eh, maybe my understanding of time having linear progression is wrong" and just ignored your comment because it might not have happened yet or might never happen or might have happened an infinite amount of time ago.

@@chrismay3827 Time is a pretty weird concept. While every other unit is measured in terms of Physical constants, the second is the only arbitrary unit. It is just a better pendulum, one atom of Cesium. Furthermore, time is not something necessarily exists everywhere. In black holes, for example, time dilation is so intense that if you passed the even horizon the entire universe life would flash trough your vision. Furthermore, some solutions to general relativity equations, permit causality loops close to black holes. I don't really know if those really exist, but time itself is a pretty bendable concept. Time is pretty relative, and the only Physical phenomena that seems to indicate passage of time is entropy getting higher in the universe. Furthermore, god doesn't solve any problem. If you're comfortable with an infinitely existing god, why aren't you comfortable with an infinite chain of causality? Why god decided to create the universe approximately 13.8 billion years ago and not 70 billion years ago? The existence of god doesn't solve any problem. It in fact creates more problems. Who created god?

@vidal9747 I'm not trying to say that this time conundrum nessistates a god. What I am saying is we need a being or force outside of time to start things. Otherwise, we never reach this moment because of how infinity as a concept works. I would argue that the cleanest explanation for a timeless thing that would seem to have creative power and design would be God, but even those things are outside what I was saying. Ignorantly said, science does not make any claim as to what is an "impossibility," it is a method of knowledge derivation to attempt to gleam some insight regarding the truth of the natural world. The claim that "nothing created something" is a metaphysical discourse, which can be influenced by science, but is ultimately philosophical. For instance, matter + antimatter reaction results in the destruction of both. That is something created nothing under the linear progression of time. Do you not believe it is possible, or merely conceivable, that prior to the singularity of the big bang the progression of time, or time itself, may not work the way you percieve it now? As our understanding improves, so does our concept of what is possible.
@ArthurMrgan
@ArthurMrgan Ай бұрын
@@virno69420 Although testable hypotheses and empirical data are the main focus of science, it is nevertheless possible for science to assert impossibilities within specific contexts. For example, perpetual motion devices are said to be impossible by the principles of thermodynamics. Thus, it would be oversimplified to assert that science makes no claims regarding impossibilities. According to Einstein's equation (E=mc2), mass is converted into energy through the reaction of matter and antimatter. The exact meaning of "something created nothing" is not implied by this transition. The physics of conservation rules are maintained since the energy generated is still something. It is suggested by modern cosmology that the Big Bang is when time as we know it began. However, given that our existing physical theories break down at that point, we cannot say that time operated "before" the Big Bang conclusively.

I was a Catholic so I can say this from knowledge that the pope infallibility applies to the authority of the pope on Christ’s doctrines. Meaning the pope is incapable of error in the interpretation of scripture and its teaching, observance and belief in the church. The Orthodox Church followed by the Protestant movement both disagreed to it. I’m still young in scriptural knowledge. But so far I have come to the understanding that there is no one living now, nor at the time of the apostles who is given complete knowledge of all the mysteries and prophecies of the scripture. Not even the apostles were given full knowledge at one time. Peter was recorded to have been wrong in some things in Paul’s epistles. He even had trouble interpreting a vision given to him which was later explained in detail by Paul who was given the knowledge of it. And likewise Paul was recorded to heed Peter’s advice that was somewhat contrary to what Paul taught the gentile churches. It only proves what James said in James 1:5, how God gives knowledge liberally. This is done so no one can boast in their knowledge as it was written that God opposes the proud. Jesus himself taught the apostles in Matthew 20:26 that whoever among them wishes to be great must be the least. This teaches the church of humility. A key trait of a Christian follower. To say that the Pope is the ultimate guide to everything in the doctrines is simply against the wisdom taught in the new covenant. The result of which are doctrines and teachings that were not established by Christ i.e. sacrament of confirmation, rosary and Marian devotion, purgatory to name a few that can’t be proven in the written doctrines in scriptures.

That is the argument for suicides going to hell: they're no longer alive to repent of this last sin. But I believe the Lord knows the heart of each person who is in Him: "He remembers that we are dust" (Psalm 103:14), knowing that we are finite and that we have limits we can't endure being pushed beyond. He also knows those who love Him. Suicide is very often chosen because a needed physical or situational change isn't there. Changing a circumstance for the better is enough for the person to abandon suicide. I do agree that the temptation to suicide is counsel from Satan. But in this world of fallenness and eventual death, of ongoing physical and emotional distress, it's not only that.
@AndrewSchwankl
@AndrewSchwankl Ай бұрын
When a person takes their own life, it shows they're not in right relationship with God. They have committed premeditated murder, and put themselves in God's place to appoint the time of death. I found 5 suicides in the Bible; King Saul & his armor bearer, Ahithophel, King Zimri, and Judas Iscariot. All of these were rebels against God and His order. But of all people who had reasons to kill themselves, I'd put Job right up there, but though he longed for death, he vowed to wait for God's appointed time, 14:13,14. Yes, suicide requires sensitivity, but also Biblical truth. What even makes this a serious question? Simple; no one ever wants to believe that God would send anyone they know into Hell. If they have been in right relationship with God, they may be tempted by suicide, but won't be able to go through with it.

Ok then.... I have a Question? Why is it that those who have attempted to kill themselves and have experience a after death but, the Lord allows them a sec chance. And yet they have seen, and felt hell. So with that said, yes, you have "No More" chances after death. Those who succeed at killing themselves has no more flesh so, "no" they can not ask for forgiveness. Once we take our last breath we can not ask for forgiveness. I hear voices all the time telling me to just do it, no one would care, everyone would be better off if i were to not be here. People who struggle with this stuff don't want to stop breathing, we just want the agony, and all the hurt to stop. We just want to be loved. People who grow up in normal, healthy, loving homes. They don't get it. Christians can be so nasty to those who struggle mentally too. Saying things like 'it's all in you're head, or have more faith in God, or whatever else" That's not helpful. The teaching of the Church is that suicide is a mortal sin and that without repentance and a perfect act of contrition it is not possible to be saved. I heard the story of a baptised Catholic who fell away from the faith and jumped off a bridge. A Saint revealed that he had repented with a perfect act of contrition as he fell and was forgiven in that instant. However this is extremely rare. Besides you are not solving the problem of grief and tragedy for family members who have died without a valid baptism or after having fallen away and living a dissolute life with mortal sin on their soul. However if we were to argue that the only sin which we go to hell for is the unforgiveable sin (whatever that is and most people choose for themselves what that means) then nobody would get baptised or would have any constraint on sinning, and our entire faith is shipwrecked. The Church teaches that even one mortal sin after baptism is enough to send the soul to hell if left unrepented and unconfessed. The Church also teaches that even original sin which is not dealt with through baptism is also enough to send a soul to hell. Our whole point of detachment from created things is that we love God even if he were to justly allow our family members to go to hell. So therefore we choose for ourselves family members who keep the Lord's commandments because there is a high chance that these family members in the faith will be with us in heaven. As instructed in Matthew 12:48 Who is my mother, and who are my brethren? 49 And stretching forth his hand towards his disciples, he said: Behold my mother and my brethren. 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father, that is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother. Sadness to the point of depression is in itself a mortal sin if it is indulged in. So that the solution is to go immediately to the confessional and repent of your sins, or if you are not a Catholic, then to enter into the Catholic Church with the Sacrament of Baptism. The black dog of a long depression comes about when a life is lived for self and the fleshly self is harbouring sins in opposition to God. The soul recognises that their sins are keeping them from experiencing the fulness of God and they are in despair because they are not prepared to give them up. This is worldly sadness that is aware of the consequences of their sin but produces no change. Godly sorrow on the other hand should cause us to examine our lives and work out what is wrong and fix it, in particular, seek after God and repentance from our sins. This godly sorrow 2 Corinthians 7:10-11 causes us to change, form a hatred of sin, to give ourselves to God in thanksgiving, prayer and sacrifice. Then miraculously the sorrow goes away. Whereas worldly sorrow which is wallowed in producing no change except a deepening bitterness with anger and resentment towards God ultimately brings death as we saw with Judas who committed suicide and then went into perdition. So suicide generally is the final end of a life lived in persistent rebellion against God, which is really a living death. Godly sorrow however which produces change is evidence that the soul is living in life and in the Grace of God.

Think about it. Why would a Christian want to kill himself or herself? A Christian is one who has REPENTED from sin and trusted in Jesus Christ. As a result he has the peace of God and knows the joy of salvation. He is NOT going to kill himself. People who do not know God may kill themselves A Christian who has sinned can become depressed but it would be FOOLHARDY FOR HIM TO KILL HIMSELF. If we have sinned and repented from the sin, confessed it to God, he is faithful and just to forgive us. There are some people who have never repented and committed their lives to Christ and call themselves Christian. That happens. If those people commit suicide, it makes no difference. They will go to Hell. Suicide just speeds the entrance into the experience of the rich man in Luke 16:23. But let us say that a Christian becomes sick....he develops serious Alzheimer's or some spongy encephalopathy and he has the mental age of a 2 year old where he does not know what he is doing and he happens to kill himself. He would be dead but as long as he has been a CHILD OF GOD, HE WILL GO STRAIGHT TO HEAVEN EVEN THOUGH HE COMMITTED SUICIDE.

Hey, thanks for your comment and starting the dialogue between us. A few things to note: First, there isn’t “more” or “less” Christian. One is either apart of the body of Christ, or one isn’t. We can’t toe the line between death and life. We are either in union with Christ or separated from Him. With that being said, Orthodox can’t be “less” Christian than Protestants. If they are Christian, then they’re just as Christian as any other Christian. Secondly, while the orthodox don’t believe that the Spirit proceeded from the Son, they don’t believe that he had no part to play. Even if that wasn’t the case, I don’t think it would be fair to say that denying the filioque robs God, the literal creator of everything, of purpose.

The early church wasn’t Catholic until Constantine wanted to capitalize and make corporate the “church” because he knew there was power in it. The church from Christ and the apostles was mostly persecuted and lived in the catacombs beneath Rome until Constantine made it the official religion. Then the pagan worship of Rome inter mingled with Christian doctrine and that’s why you see the statues, icons and mysticism of Catholic and orthodox today. That’s why the sabbath changed to Sunday and many other things are the way they are in today’s church. Satan could not stop the church so he “joined” it. The Vatican is the harlot drunk on the wine of the saints in revelation.
