This is the second part in a 3 part series. Today, we're talking about common misconceptions that people have about protestantism. I think it's alwasy good for us to be able to understand others. If we don't understand others, we draw caricatures of them and misrepresent them. This is never good, but its doubly so when we're talking about fellow believers. In this video, I seek to do away with some common misconceptions people have about protestantism.

The early church wasn’t Catholic until Constantine wanted to capitalize and make corporate the “church” because he knew there was power in it. The church from Christ and the apostles was mostly persecuted and lived in the catacombs beneath Rome until Constantine made it the official religion. Then the pagan worship of Rome inter mingled with Christian doctrine and that’s why you see the statues, icons and mysticism of Catholic and orthodox today. That’s why the sabbath changed to Sunday and many other things are the way they are in today’s church. Satan could not stop the church so he “joined” it. The Vatican is the harlot drunk on the wine of the saints in revelation.

This is literally a disproved conspiracy theory started by Alexander Hislop in the 1800s. Scholars and historians think this stuff is ridiculous.

Read the writings of the earliest Christians - they were clearly Catholic.

None of your points can be said to be misunderstandings. There are literally millions of Protestants that they describe.

Hey! Thanks for commenting and starting the dialogue between us. While there are Protestants who do believe the things that I labeled as misconceptions, I still feel like it would be a gross misrepresentation for people to believe that all or even most of Protestantism was like that. For example, there are people in the Catholic Church who have and do worship Mary. This is despite the overwhelming teaching against such practices. Even though there are those who practice such things, it would be a misrepresentation of Catholicism to say that Catholics worship Mary. In a similar way, while there are Protestants who hold to the misconceptions that I listed in the video, those beliefs are largely contrary to and corrected by other Protestants. For that reason, I feel that they are misconceptions.

@@TheTheologicalTavern I appreciate your response. I completely agree there are Protestants that don’t believe your points. But that leaves us the issue, who is the authority of Protestantism? What is the standard teaching of Protestantism? Is there a catechism that says these beliefs are Protestant beliefs, and anything else is contrary to Protestant doctrine?

@@IG88AAA Your acting like protestantism is one thing. How would a weird flashy church service have any berring on a Lutheran. When you criticize that your not criticizing protestantism, your criticizing that individual church or denomination they belong to.

@@kylethomas2993 That is not my criticism of Protestantism. My criticism is how can any Protestant tell another Protestant what is the proper way to worship? There is no authority in Protestantism to bind all Protestants. One protestant reads the Bible and believes this, another reads the Bible and believes the opposite. Isn’t it the right and duty of each individual the read the Bible and decide what they believe under Protestant theology?
