I had to train myself but I make commission and after a year I'm now a sup. I train everyone. I wish I had a more standard way to do it.

This is my second week in collections. I’ve worked at a bank doing customer service never calll center much less collections. I really like it so far but I do want to increase my chances with collecting payments for of course those extra commission bonuses. I have so coworkers who go in very demanding so I’m stuck with trying to find my lane and how to approach it

my agency provided zero training. how to operate the software, and a script to read. no negotiation training, no communication training, nothing! i still managed to hit my goal every month though

We aren't as small as Mindy's company is but not far off. Mindy makes some very good points. We are national but have a local feel. Customization is kind of our specialty. Smaller agency experiences tend to be a more like having your very own A/R department without the high overhead. Especially if you can do invoicing and billing along with debt collections. Technology can help you do high volume as well with a small staff.

I completely agree, Being a mom-and-pop shop brings great challenges. Hearing that you are acknowledging tech is great.

Any advice on debt? I had about 50k mixed in with credit cards and loans. I had lost my job and decided I couldn't pay them anymore. Screwed my credit. Now the cards are getting charged off and closed. Soon collections will start calling. Any advice

i started like 2 months ago and ive been feeling a little overwhelmed because i was struggling to understand the system although my supervisor pushed me into doing calls which was mainly doing transferring calls i learned the office script pretty fast they gave me a small amount of accounts to work on and that was leaving voicemails although im barely starting to get some knowledge on the accounts i still need more practice and just yet when its discussing with the debtors account and what not.

i never did any role play my supervisor just through me to the phone he started me off with transferring calls first which i pretty much picked up fast i learned the script fast than they gave me a small amount of accounts to work on and that was doing outbound calls but what i need practice is on speaking to the debtor and speaking into detail regarding their account i dont want to give out the wrong info.

If the kid picks up the phone can you tell the kid that his toys are going to be sold on auction because his daddy cant pay his bills

What litigation mistakes is she talking about? Is she saying you can get in trouble with the law easily being a debt collector?

Oh, so you don't tell the debtors that you're calling the cops and heading the charge to arrest them for delinquent debt and be there to watch them when their cuff go on with a maniacal zeal? No wonder I'm getting constant threats of grave bodily harm.
