It’s a fantastic collection of restaurants, grocery stores and bakeries! It’s a shame though there really isn’t much public space or culture monuments- would love some arches and more walkable areas for events and such. It was awesome to go to high school in that area.

This is the perspective of one or two people. I was raised in Columbia and we had a great childhood. Depending on your idea of places to hang out, there are plenty of things to do, of course not like hanging out at the harbor, but Columbia pretty much shuts down by a particular hour, which is not a bad thing. We were exposed to all nationalities, made friends with many, it being a melting pot of sorts. Howard County does have the best school system, but it's not as safe as it used to be, but the housing prices still reflect the old thoughts of being the safest place to live, which is really not true. Every place has it's bad elements, people and places.. But if you are planning to move to Columbia or thinking about it, speak to many different people raised here. I can say that it has gotten over crowded and has developed more of our land than Rouse had planned.....hence it no longer being the safest place to live. Many of us that grew up here cannot afford to live here, which is the saddest thing for us. I am still an advocate for Howard County living, it's just not the place it used to be.
