Hi Nikola This is awesome. I have a query through in the implementation part. Since, the fields do not exist in the model (As per the error description in PBI Desktop with OLS applied) for a specific role, the visuals break. This means, the report author has to create another version of the report without using the fields included in OLS (To provide a seamless experience avoiding visual breakage error). Is my understanding correct ? Or there is a way to achieve this with a single copy of report supporting different roles ? (As in case of RLS) Please share some light. Many Thanks. Pratik

You didn't really explain it to a 5 year old. I am older than that, have experience with databases including low level storage, have a proven IQ level over the average but I am still at a lost after your video. So what does a parquet file look like physically? How do you create a parquet file? Answers to such questions are missing.

Hi please suggest can i import 3-5 million records into power bi desktop from sql server... Is this possible for pro users. Thanks in advance
@DataMozart2 ай бұрын
Hi, it depends how many columns you have, their cardinality, etc. But, in most cases, yes, 3-5 million rows can be easily imported in Power BI.

great video! One question: how can we use powerBI desktop to work with Direct Lake? Currently it is not allowed, but are there any workarounds to it? Lets say I have an existing report based on ADLS Gen2. If I do the shortcut to One Lake and use SQL endpoint to replicate it and publish it with Import mode, can it be switched to use direct lake instead? Or do I have to re-create measures, data model, visuals etc in powerBI service from scratch in order to use Direct lake connection? Thanks
@DataMozart3 ай бұрын
Hi. As far as I know, Direct Lake is not working (yet) with Power BI Desktop. Hm, I'm not sure that the workaround you mentioned could work, because I believe you can't switch from import to Direct Lake. Cheers!

Good content for PowerBI incremental refresh
@DataMozart5 ай бұрын
Thanks!
@tommartens39535 ай бұрын
Hey #PowerBI and #MicrosoftFabric friends, I consider this video one of the best introductions to the "world" of incremental refresh! 👏 Nevertheless, here are some additional thoughts: - separate your data from the content (your data visualizations), because whenever you publish the data pbix to the Power BI Service your partitions will "reset". - prepare (meaning) train the initial load because your data is growing over time. I consider not training the initial load to be similar to Schroedingers backup, without a restore you do not know if the backup was successful - also, it is likely that you are already backed by a Premium capacity, if not take this into account (or Premium Per User licensing), the reason behind this - you can leverage the XMLA endpoint to update your semantic model with new measures without "resetting" the partitions

Great content, thanks for sharing! Another benefit of using explicit measures is that you avoid issues when using implicit measures with Analyze in Excel. I believe some of these limitations have been removed when using Excel web, but as far as I know they are prevalent when using Excel app.

Any good ways to identify memory usage during a refresh of a semantic model on the service? I'm currently trying to identify if a calculated column is causing memory issues e.g the dataset uses 1gb of memory before refresh and failed because it needed 24gb of memory.
@DataMozart5 ай бұрын
Hi Kevin, I'd suggest to check this blog post from Chris Webb and see if it helps: blog.crossjoin.co.uk/2023/04/30/measuring-memory-and-cpu-usage-in-power-bi-during-dataset-refresh/
