This was my first Godzilla film as a kid. It along with 2000, hold a special place in my heart. It's like a second Destroy All Monsters to me and I enjoy going back to it.

It's funny, coming to this some 5 years later, I actually hated KOTM on first viewing. The human story was decidedly so terrible with the "family" aspect that I was immediately offput. Now, after Shin and Godzilla Minus One, both significantly better films, I've come back to rewatch it, and I found myself having a great time. The music, the monsters, everything where the family isn't front and center is excellent. Coming at it from the "Hey this is a love letter to the Showa films" perspective really makes a difference. Maybe watching a ton of those again after getting the Criterion boxset has also helped. I was always most nostalgic for the Heisei films, but there's something to those classic, well, kids movies when it's all said and done. Anyway, the 4K Bluray is gorgeous, and I would recommend it to any godzilla fan.

Mothra Leo is my favorite version of the character besides the monsterverse. Because thats the only version that didn't kill anyone on screen, which made her pacifism come off as more genuine.

Godzilla sucks..there is no scenario where he becomes palatable. A failed horror. A dry f*rt of a character. Now ,and forever.Just is.

Hi there Up from The Depth's. Love your channel and I hope you do more video's in the near future. I've been writing my own fanfic version of this film. It's titled, It's called Godzilla vs. the Kabuton Brothers: The Undersea Kingdom's SOS Strategy. Instead of one, there are two Megalon's. Both are robot's representing Seatopia’s ancient guardians from long ago. I also changed Megalon from Kabuton because I felt this new name fits better. One of them causes a volcanic eruption and earthquake on Monster island, sending the monsters fleeing except for Godzilla. After a battle, Godzilla chases Megalon to Japan. Goro Ibuki and his younger brother Hiroshi Ibuki see the second Megalon after it drains the water from Lake Kitayama. Instead of being villain's, the Seatopian’s are victims of the nuclear tests and help Goro improve Jet Jaguar. I also improved and expanded on Seatopia's history and cut out the part about them being allies with the M Space Nebula aliens since it's never explained how they came to know each other. So no Gigan in my story. Sorry. I made Goro and Hiroshi brothers instead of friends in the movie. I also added in a new character such as Einus. She is a Seatopian princess who helps them against Ana, another Seatopian who is controlling the Megalon Brothers. In the film there was no given reason why JJ was created. But now there is. In a flashback, you learn that JJ was a project by Goro and Hiroshi's parents for the propose of fighting monsters until they are both killed during Gigan and King Ghidorah's rampage through Tokyo in Godzilla vs. Gigan. It's not the most original idea. You see it in other tokusatsu shows at that time, but what else are you going to do with a giant robot. Let it fight monsters, no duh! Jet Jaguar is later upgraded in the story as an advanced A.I. and can talk just like in Godzilla SP. He has new abilities, ranging from a finishing move called the Plasma Beam he fires from his wrists when he crosses them in a X fashion. Jet Jaguar can also fire a taser-like attachment from is right arm and a deploy a pepper-spray from his left arm. To freeze his enemy’s, Jet Jaguar can shoot a liquid nitrogen spray from his mouth. So there! I just fixed the movie! What do you think? Do any of you have any ideas that can improve Godzilla vs. Megalon? Let me know by replying please.

Very good video. BTW, I have seen your Bryan Cranston video and I was wondering if are you ever going to make a sequel to it? Since Dr. Serizawa survived in your what if scenario, how much would you change the next two Monsterverse movies, "Godzilla vs Kong" and "Godzilla x Kong" with him being in those movies.

Thank you for dredging up a nearly lost memory from my childhood. Specifically the natural settings, the dramatic swipe change of face between statue and warrior, and the climactic crumbling of the statue after vengeance was served. I am very ready for a rewatch. I had no idea it was a trilogy!

Toho may still hate Zilla (from the 1998 film), but the fact that Zilla Jr makes a plushie cameo alongside Komodithrax, her egg, and the turtle monster in the Singular Point anime means the Japanese studio quietly approves of the cartoon series. Otherwise, the scene would not have been given the green light.

I am not sure of what film it appeared on however, an early Godzilla slaps his head similar to the 1970s - 1980s advertisment popular in the United States, "I could have had a V8." See Godzilla vs radiation. MarkMannM2 video series

The fact that they made these amazing films on a shorter budget than Godzilla perfectly shows something I think films are missing. More money doesn’t mean better, quality makes the movies better. Monsterverse would be perfect for Gamera. Make him someone that Godzilla respects and actually leaves alone because he knows this other kaiju isn’t a threat to him.

As a Christian and also like others mythology, your review is very cool I like Ghidorah design is literally inspired by Hydra Dragon, the dragon that Hercules want to hunt to free his labours and he is embodiment of Lucifer itself or three more famous Satan, Baal, Moloch and Belial Montra is defender of Godzilla just like St Michael the Archangel of Protection Rogan as a Judas like character is also is cool

Suggestions for movies to review The Lost World, Gorath, Them!, Cloverfield, Host, Ultraman series (I know it's slightly different, but it is iconic) I would love if you looked more into kaiju comic, animation, games etc, but I get it if it's not your style. Keep up a good work.

I watched this movie today and I was thinking about how Manda could have been used better, given that it's believed he was a mandate by Tomoyuki Tanaka/Toho and he deserved better. I would have had it explained in the backstory that when Mu sank he helped the Muans survive, doing things like bringing them materials to enhance their technology and in turn they worshiped him as their new God. And throughout the movie I would have had Manda take part in the destruction scenes (specifically the ones in the ocean, so for example the submarine isn't destroyed by water pressure, it's destroyed by Manda) I'd even give him the Mu Submarine's ability to fire red lasers (which he would do from his mouth) and the Mu submarines are there to guide him to specific areas. And in the climax instead of the Empress releasing him Manda confronts the prisons as he's coming back to Mu and so the Gotengo distracts him with the torpedos as happens in the movie. Where things would differ is Manda moves out of the way and keeps his eye on the Gotengo, seemingly let it burrow into the Mu, thats when he would attack it again, which I think would of added tension as I thought the Gotengo crew going in and destroying Mu seemed almost too easy. So when the crew comes back on board that's when they electrocute Manda to get him off and finally Manda would take the place of the final Mu submarine firing the red laser at the Gotengo which is finally frozen by the flying warship
