This is an AKA Box, i think the main brand of these was Eversonic, i think they did an MC2 and MC3 models, i did a search and someone bought a happytone version as well, so i think they were multi badged. it sounds "ok" but i wouldn't say the bass is devastating or anything, but just average, still a nice radio though..

It was also known as the Radiotone RCX-170 Valencia. They changed the controls and the meter, but beyond that, it's the same box.

There's Loads of them still around, i own 3, i know a guy that i think has at least 3, and he's a repair guy, he actually repairs electrical stuff, he loves them, i love them, if i had a big house i'd have one in every room.. Just imagine you buy something today, do you really think it will be around 40 years later. No way.. These Amstrads are mint..

@@CISQO23 This HiFi came exactly like this when bought new in the stores, the Stereo Model Number is M85, they were sold from 1991 to around 1992, then they re designed them and released a new one, that model is M97, they are just as nice as these, i've owed one and they are beautiful, people are selling these on Ebay, Just put in Kenwood M85 on Ebay, only problem is if you are in America i don't think these were sold there, which if it is true, that is nuts because America is massive compared to UK, Kenwood would have made a fortune selling these over there.

Do the vu meter work only on cassette and not on radio or aux?
@80s_kid.

Hello, Yes that is correct, they only move to the cassette, not to Tuner/Aux, but this stereo is one of the best sounding stereos i've ever owned, and it weighs a metric ton.

Nice, what do the rumble and scratch buttons do?
@80s_kid.
@80s_kid. 3 ай бұрын
The Rumble and Scratch filter are more for when you play a record that has lots of little scratches on it, the Scratch filter is supposed to mask them out a bit, but basically it's like a Kind of Dolby, that's what it sounds like to me, and the rumble removes bass, or feedback from the record, but i don't get it because all you have to do is turn the bass down and that would do the same thing. i think they were just put there to make it look like it had more functions. most early Amstrad HiFi's had Rumble and Scratch Buttons.

@80s_kid.
@80s_kid. 3 ай бұрын
Hi James, No i never had the Sub. i've had a few of these, i had the M56, i bought the M77MG from a friend in the late 90s, he the sub with it but he sold that separate, M97, M65. but i kept selling them, then years later i saw this on Gumtree, a guy in Failsworth in Manchester was selling it, he said it hadn't been used in 27 years so it was sold as is, so i went and grabbed it, wired it up and it worked perfect, i'd say the only thing it could do with is new belts on the tape deck but apart from that it's great., Yes these only came with 1 equaliser, i just thought it would look funky to add another. so i bought another from Ebay for £80. i have the original speakers with it but i'm using a set of Mission 734i with it right now and stored the originals away.

I seriously don't know why people keep thinking that, i have spoke to 2 electronics engineers that used to repair Amstrad, they say that apart from worn out cassette belts, these things just keep going and never break down. so they are as good as any other HiFi from back then, and my opinion is, anything that still exists and is still working after 40 is is definitely not poor, Quality, just imagine buying something today, do you think it will still be around in 40 years ? definitely Not ! one of the engineer guys i spoke to own 3 Amstrad HiFi's and he say he loves them. Ok they were cheap, but poverty was Huge back in the 80s, and if it wasn't for the Amstrad brand, they would have had no way of owning a stereo at all.
@millinchip2
@millinchip2 2 ай бұрын
@@80s_kid. Techmoan did a video on that particular unit. The tweeters are fakes and the electronics inside could fit into a small Sashio boombox. 10 Watts per channel. A tiny motor drives the ejecting turntable and always breaks. Techmoan called it a "mugs eyefull" and made the point that it killed off the mid range market with the likes of Sony and Panasonic giving up on this market. So no, its crap.
@martindavis6115
@martindavis6115 5 ай бұрын
I remember my parents having a similar looking system but unsure as to which model it was or if it was indeed Amstrad. Remember the turntable making a really loud/unique clicking sound and the tape decks a loud thudding sound when they shut off at the end.
@80s_kid.
@80s_kid. 5 ай бұрын
The turntable on these are really poor quality, it was in the final years before BSR went out of business, the needle was cheap and nasty and can damage your records, the Off/33/45 speed switch runs on contacts underneath on to a copper track, the copper wears out and the speed goes all erratic, it happens to them all. the deck is removeable, think there is 4 screws that hold it in place., the tape decks are reasonable quality, the only thing i have ever seen go wrong with them is the belts wear out, replace them and they just keep going.
