Can I not kennel my 10 month old or is that too young? I wonder if the kennel makes his anxiety worse…
@MyGoldendoodleDiary
@MyGoldendoodleDiary 7 күн бұрын
You can try it for short periods to see how he reacts. If he is comfortable, and maybe accompanied by a favourite toy, then perhaps you can extend the periods he spends in the kennel/crate. Just observe his reaction. I tried it with Sophie over a short period of time and she simply hated it, so I didn't push. Go with what works x

Thank you for stopping by and the kind feedback. There are so many aspects to both their looks and characters - they really are just like people. Sounds like you still have a youngster. They really do mellow gradually over time. I'm not sure if the velcro thing gets less or if you get so used to it, it just becomes a part of life! All the best x

Thank you. Very useful and beautifully presented. I tend to give two fish skins to clean my labradoodles teeth every evening as I also found the dental chews useless. He only chewed on one side and even the large ones disappeared in seconds. I also give him a rabbits ear which I was told sends any worms that may be present out through the gut! So far he has avoided worms using that and a natural wormer every 3 months. He’s 3 1/2 years old. Nail cutting is on the agenda as his groomer is retiring. This video has given me a little confidence to try it. Thank you. 🙏 😊

@@rodelliott3683 that is such a sweet scene you've described. You are lucky your pup is so good with cats. Mine is fine with most animals, but barks profusely at cats unfortunately... it's as though she's calling their bluff saying I KNOW you're not really a dog, you're pretending. No cat for us, unfortunately (we used to have one some time before we got her). Growing up I always loved to observe the interaction between our house animals. You're lucky you get to do this.

My golden doodle is a therapy dog is the most fantastic animal that I have ever had these loving, compassionate, obedient loves to go on walks. I will admit he got me out of the house after I retired we walk 45 miles a week. He loves it also loves company and as many people around him as he can stand loves when they come over, one fantastic animal

He sounds like an amazing dog with a particularly good nature. They are all beautiful and special but not all suitable as therapy dogs (many are a tad too anxious, and others, a tad too rambunctious). It's great he has you out and about each week - exercise is key (for them as well as us). I call my dog my 'personal trainer' as she gets me out walking way more than I ever walked before. That is interesting. My family had rottweilers growing up - they were much loved. It's important to nip the resource guarding in the bud while your pup's still young. @MyGoldendoodleDiary
@MyGoldendoodleDiary 3 ай бұрын
I try to do it as often as I can, but it ends up not being daily. I believe it's best to do it daily. All the other teeth cleaning methods should act like toothbrushing, so if your pup has something something to chew on, that should act as a toothbrushing session.

I have never had to trim my doodles nails. They wear down. I think dirt works better than concrete. Dogs pads grip on concrete. It’s one of the dangers pads face with concrete. The get so much traction it can cause tears. On dirt the dog pad slips and claws dig in. She is five and I groom her they are never long.

If you find it overwhelming, perhaps it would be good to hire a trainer to help you with any issues you are having. Puppies are a handful - sometimes a small handful and sometimes a BIG handful. I love my 5 month old...she's just so beautiful, when she has her 'moments' I just have to remember she'll return to her loveable self in no time at all...we are SO in love with her. I got her for support after the death of our son ( 9 years after to be precise) as lots of things have overwhelmed us during this time. Yes, this breed are so smart you have to be one step ahead and they can drive us to distraction!...but, as you have said, it's about being calm, get to know her better by the day and accept her limitations. I will never regret the day she entered our lives...I saw her, I said 'that's my dog' and that was that.

Thanks for your comment. Many people don't have such experiences but some (like us) do, so it's important to share and realise it is what it is. Patience, training, consistency is the name of the game and the next weeks and months will be a bit of a challenge. You're all still adjusting to one another, so take that into account. You won't need to wait 2 years. 2 years is when Sophie started requiring less exercise/stimulation, but we got into the groove of things sooner than that. It's good to know what to expect and you are yet to go through the puppy teenager phase which is something too. That too shall pass ;-) Think of it as having a toddler at home, though the phase is not nearly as long as humans. Take a look through all my puppy videos on this channel - I share all I can. It took my husband some time to bond with Sophie (such a rascal was she), but when he did, it became complete love.

If you let it grow out and brush it out it will relax, but when it's no longer brushed out or when you wet it it will naturally go back to a tight curl as that is just how her coat is (obviously a big poodle influence in her genes). And if daily maintenance is too hard, just keep her clipped nice and short (nowadays I keep mine clipped much shorter than before and she is happy). Enjoy your lovely new girl Ella - beautiful name too. x

I think all dogs have different personalities. We describe our doodle, Ginger, as "Bob Marley," she is laid back. She only barks when she wants to come in, and it is usually one bark at a time. She is very smart. Now my daughter's doodle will bark at any animal on TV as long as it is on the tv. Ginger doesn't. Our doodle loves to sit on chairs, sit on the riding lawn mower, loves to go for rides in the car. They are great dogs, her only bad trait is stealing paper out of trash cans, and food left in her reach.
