I litterally got into the game, because I wanted to paint a bunch of robots from my Mechwarrior/Robotech childhood. Then I found out the lore and game are amazing!! BTW gatekeep your hobbies so that the type of people that would say "ablist" stay out.

Battletech is a game you can play with a copy of the rules, and two mechs. You can get buy the 1990's fasa rules copy. Vehicles rules changed a little but that is about it. Chart makers are online. So can swap weapons as you wish.

I've painted all of mine and my son's mechs (I have 44 mechs in my force and my son has 25 mechs and a five point star of elementals), working now on my aerospace fighters and infantry and a few new mechs I recently bought. I also paint my buildings and terrain. I enjoy painting.

Would you recommend Alpha Strike or Vanilla Battletech for a 40Kish player?
@larslaufer301
@larslaufer301 27 күн бұрын
Alpha Strike is much closer in the rules to 40k. That being said I am not a 40k player, just quoting a friend who is. As for what to get, I would say it depends on what experiance you want. Alpha Strike is more simple and allows bigger armies on the table as it is played faster. Battletech. It takes a bit more effort to get into. Lots of tables and charts and fewer units BUT its rules are incredible flexible. You can use the basic rules to just go mech to mech and have a fun time or you can start to add more and more rules and you can choose whatever you like. There aren't just mechs. You can have infantry, tanks, VTOL, Battlearmor, mechs, dropships, air-space fighters and so on. Want to fight in a city? There are rules to create building and to tear them down in style. Low gravity? Yah there is a rule for that too and more. Pick the complexety you like and just have fun creating your won scenarios. Also its just so satisfying to dismember your enemy piece by piece. Every mech is kinda lika a complete troop of people in 40k. Armor, internel structure, systems to be damaged and ton of different weapon systems all in one figure. It also has two rules I like so much over other games. First of "You hit a target then its hit" no defance diece to ruin your perfect shot. Secondly, damage is done at the same time. No more "I shot first and now I have won the game".

My FASA era mechs are all painted. I got some CGL mechs recently, and I spent time trying to think of a paint scheme that expresses the present me the best. As I sat looking at the bare mechs, I realized that they're already there.

Saying this as someone who migrated from 40K, Battletech's rules are _sooooo_ much easier to wrap your head around. No BS like the nesting dolls of stratagems, command point faffery exceptions to every rule, different exception because of different factions... Ugh, never GW again. Battletech might have a steeper learning curve at the start, but once you know the rules, that's it. You and your opponent are playing the same game from the same book.

Macross does not won the mechs. Studio Nue created the mechs, and owns the designs of the mechs. Big West created the audiovisual product Macross, and Tatsunoko productions owned the rights of distribution of Macross. Tatsunoko sold "all rights" to Harmony Gold. But since everything Tatsunoko had was was distribution rights, not even the ownership of Macross the sudiovisual product. But Harmony Gold did not understand that and believed all rights meant they were the sole owners of all the IP. All this was uncovered when Big West sued Tatsunoko productions in Japan. FASA corporation licensed toys from Twentieth Century Imports. And they do not own the righst on the design. As I said Studio Nue owns the rights. So Harmony Gold sued FASA Corporation and nearly anyone. But the king was naked. Harmony Gold does not even own Macross, and they made Robotech using material from the Macross sudiovisual product. FASA IP ended up in the hands of Topps, which licensed Battletech to Catalyst Game Labs.

can you play battletech solo? are there campaigns/missions/ custom loadouts? can i use the normal edition (a game of armored combat) for that?
@larslaufer301
@larslaufer301 27 күн бұрын
You can always develop a split personality to play solo. ^_° Kidding aside. There are solo rules in development. I played the prototype at some point and it looks promesing. No release date yet sadly. There are tons of Campaings and Mission as well as rules to create them. For custom loadouts there are rules and can surely be created. Note that a lot of people don't like playing with them as they tend to be very meta and end up beeing all the same... boring. The rules in "A Game for armored combat" I think cover all the rules you need in the beginning. I think campaing creating rules are in another book. Can't realy say as I tend to just create my own stuff and not use those specific rules.

Does anyone know where to find the rules for special weapons like pulse lasers, AMS's, targeting computers, NARC's, ART 4 missles, etc...? I found some free pdf's with mech that have items like this, but do not know where to find the rules for these items. If someone could tell me the rules for them, or point me in the right direction, that would be amazing. I have the battletech game of armored combat and begginer box.

The "BattleMech Manual 7th print" covers a lot of the new tech. Not this only has rules for Mech to Mech combat in it but is easier to read then the following. When you want to expand to tanks, infantry, etc. then I would look into getting "Total Warfare". Its a bit older but still the most complete and complex of the rule box.

Man, they cheaped out on the cardboard standies. The FASA boxes had every playable mech in multiples when they released. Grant it I haven't played Battletech tabletop since somewhere in the mid to late eighties but you'd think whomever owns it now would've stuck to that concept. Hopefully the current license holders don't want to be the next Games Workshop. (just noticed this is an old video, but hey it was in my recommended so here I am...)

6 months old vid, but Id like to give my own 2 cents on the matter. The battletech community has kept this setting alive back during clickytech and the dark age. Not much from catalyst is worth buying. That have put on display they would rather play politics as well as make undo changes. Lets also not they are a “publisher” whom dosent own a printing press meaning thier books go out print with ease… As to where to start. //You do not need a starter set!// i repeet dont buy one, its a waist I persoanly found this out too late!. The top recourse for battle-tech, and the greatest go to, made by the community. Megamek is a java program. Its a way to play battletech with auto rolling and bots. HOWEVER its greatest use is it contains not only a unit list but comprehensive search function of Battletech Record sheets! Just be sure to set the era and tech level to experimental to look at all thats on offer. This programs great for finding unit battle value, creating armies and saving them, finding new units, printing sheets, and even has a “mechlab” to make your own units, and a full star-map. #1 recourse Megamek. 2. you will want to get your hands on catalysts currant rule book, known as “Battletech Total Warfare”in my book pirate it or get it off some one who will share it, heck rent it from sights whom do that. Catylists want to rename the romel tank because romel was a nazi, vs the fact he is a hystorical general and it was part of two tanks named for generals on each side of the war. Or firing a writer do to his political beliefs, when they are never placed in any of his works, this is a old guard writer feom fasa days, befor the property was liquidated to tops and Microsoft 3. Minitures have a fantastic amount of options. As we have now several generations, id say paint what you think looks cool, as in battletech we do allow proxy. That cougar can be a madcat or a atlas, as long as whe whole table is in on this fact. Iron wind metals and catalist plastic minis both fund catalist, and thus id say get them secoundhand, though I do love iron wind, they are good people, be sure to get non fasa product minis! Thier great! There is also alot of 3d printing of the Parana Games models, this gives you loads of fantastic options for your army! Other then that you will need a hex map, or wargame tabble as the setring can be played on eather. You will want to look into options. You will need, a lot of diferent colar d6 dice that are typicly rolled in pairs!

as someone who "played" 40k for all of a few hours and only collected the models and books, and never interacts with the fandom as a whole, battletech and 40k are both cool. Neat models, good books, good games. i want to get an IS lance for Davion and a Clan Star for Steel Viper, and i'll probably never touch a tabletop with them

I first discovered Battletech in the 90's. There were Battletech simulator pods at Parramatta Westfields. It was an expensive game, but still drew quite a crowd. Damn I miss those days. Bought the Game of Armoured Combat Box about a year ago.... Been trying to find some one to play with since. Heard there's a place at Gosford that hosts games, but mostly 40k, and occasionally Battletech. But that's 2 buses and a train each way for me.
