Hi Gary, great piece of music mate, the Taiga has a lot of sonic potential by the sounds of it, like your new keyboard as well. Hope you are well and not to cold or snowed in yet. Cheers Glyn.

I am interested to know how you change the note pitches on the fly with the SQ1. I cannot see how this can be done as the pitch is set hit and miss with the knob above the button? Very good video and thank you.
@GaryHayes
@GaryHayes Күн бұрын
Thanks Peter - the pitch changes are exactly that, twisting the knob very precisely or crudely ... it is quantized of course to a minor scale and the rotation can be controlled even more by reducing the voltage range (all in the sq1 settings) ... I usually use it in Gminor mode to get a non harmonic minor.

@@GaryHayes Thanks for getting back Gary. I have watched a few videos about Producing Berlin Schule and from what I gather I need three maybe four synths. I have two BARPS 2600s to provide the two voices and the bed. I have a Volka Kick to provide beats. I do not have a bass synth yet but I will need one with a sequencer. ( Well I have a Subharmonicon and a Lyra8 so basses on them would be powerful but hit and miss.) I was pondering on the El Capistan tape echo but the Korg NTS 1 is half the size and price. I need to go easy on size now. Does it have a good tape echo for Berlin schule do you think please?

@@petercane6376 Always hard to define Berlin School in terms of exact gear required as it spread from Tangerine Dream to Schulze and several more, and even they varied dramatically in gear use. I did a video 3 months ago that demonstrated gear required for say 70s TD, and you can see what I use there - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bdJ3jMVqt7_aZKs.html&ab_channel=GaryPHayes

@@GaryHayes Yea, the west pest is fantastic, I actually wrecked my speakers with it a few hours ago in tandem with a crave and a h9 - they were 14 yrs old anyway so I suppose it was due. The west pest is a joy every time I mess with it, which is why I am sold on the taiga. <edit> I actually got the korg sq-1 for the 2600 after seeing your use of it and it was feeding the crave filter and resonance - sounded great until there was no sound =(
@GaryHayes
@GaryHayes 2 күн бұрын
@@johnwalshe Oh no! Hopefully not too expensive to replace ... I have some nice presonus 5.5" that handle hot signals really well (guessing some protection circuits in there), old speakers less so. Agree I wasn't that sold on the wavefolding oscillators until, I was :) ... the wavefolding acts as a filter of sorts so in these setups CV to each osc separately it has a 3 voice synth feel - some can be soft while the others punchier, it would be great to have 3 separate envelopes too!

I just picked up a 4hp module called GP-82 from Maikshift Modular on Etsy. Grabbed it in kit form. It adds ratcheting and other cool cv features to the Behringer 182 sequencer. The creator Chris normally appears on Ranzee's Geekery live feed on Saturdays (2pm). Recommended Module!
@GaryHayes
@GaryHayes 8 күн бұрын
Thanks T3, yes had my eye on it for a while - it kinda does what I am doing already with the setup here (basically using a separate sequence, or 4 sometimes in my case to trigger events per step) ... using a clock divider's rate input to achieve ratcheting or overall tempo. I do like to operate the 'event' sequencer separate from the actual one though so that one can for example dial in ratchets which are not related stepwise to the main sequencer, which I think the GP82 only does that using a random function? But I do like things like the pause feature and the extra modulation in, especially the 'adder' for transpose and might get it just for that element

Because of the camera distance and angle, I am finding it difficult to see how you are connecting all these modules and bringing one or another into the mix (then fade out). This aspect of modular I am having difficulty grasping. Not sure how you feel about doing beginner video's but I would appreciate something like that to help. Lost count of the amount of time and videos ive gone through to understand this. A lot of youtubers seem to assume everyone knows. Also, what kick drum, snare etc are you using. I am thinking of picking some up but not sure which. I have a 'HP TUNE' for my 182 Sequencer and know they do kick/snare/hi-hat modules. Any info would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

You could always look at Part One of this series where I talk through the. onnectivity - or many other tutorials where I slowly go through the patching (search on 'patch from scratch' on my channel, I talk about every single connection as I am doing it) - as for drums here I am using the lovely analog TipTop BD808 for kick and the useful two channel Erica Pico Drums for other things, although it can do kick and snare and 64 other drums itself (sample based) ... Cheers

Sounding very good there, nice one 😁 I picked up an S-1 recently, it's stunning what Roland have managed to cram into that tiny box with such great sound, very impressive indeed. I'm surprised I've never heard of the VMIX-10, it looks like an ideal solution. I've become mildly obsessed recently with portable setups on a track which I bought a Bastl Bestie for. They're less well spec'd and more expensive, but at least they're smaller and battery powered I suppose 😅

Cool, thanks CLM - yes all of these (incl vmix) are running off two USB battery packs, i am using some earthing adapters to keep the volca cross noise down.
