we were all in C3 or B2 rig, this translates to about 100 to 115cm of main sail luff height depending on the sail design. This is the smallest or 2nd smallest suit of sails for a Marblehead class boat.

Sir with due respect, when racing, it is viable to learn the rules of the road as in any sport to be good at it and learn tuning your boat for the waters/winds /venue you sail. So Sayeth the CAPN HAX, AMYA club charter 342 Q.C.M.Y.C. boat 673 Seawind.

Clear on how the mechanics of the HMS is operated. However, I think that the explanation would have been more logical if the seeding fleet had been described first. The method of distributing the entrants across the fleets prior to 'seeding' is glossed over as well.

Well done, thank you for going to a lot of effort to make this so we can at least watch! Your narration is very good by the way, love the accent, and by the way it's still clear. Great job! (Perhaps subtitles would help if there's background wind or other noise?)

Thank you for taking the time to comment. As we are finding out, sound is possibly the most difficult aspect of video making. Unfortunately most of the video footage we take contains unwanted sounds, mainly deafening wind noise but often conversations, screaming children, interested bystanders and occasionally sailors arguing. For instance the first distant overview shots of the lake in this video contain loud and overbearing road noise as it was taken next to a busy road. Hence we use the free music supplied by KZfaq (can’t afford the paid stuff) to fill in the lack of sound it also helps with the continuity of the video clips. I do check volume levels of voice to music on two systems prior to publishing, one is my HD PC with standard sound card and standard speakers the other is a 4k TV with a high quality soundbar. I am aware that all sound systems are different and different levels can apply in different systems, but there is not a lot we can do about that on our budget (£0) . It is generally possible to toggle the auto generated subtitles button on the video if there is a difficulty understanding our Yorkshire accent.

@@modelyachtracinguk Please don't take it negatively. I watched it all - and really enjoyed it. Its a huge amount of work, filming and editing, and commentating and I'm grateful - but for me, the music takes away rather than adding anything.

Where does the on-off switch go in your schematic? I bought a used hull that was completely disassembled and could really use some advice here. I assemble the servos/battery/receiver just as shown and it works perfectly but when trying to add the on-off switch nothing works. I should add that I tried the switch between the battery and receiver. Thanks in advance.
@modelyachtracinguk

Between battery receiver would be normal. Possibly the switch has failed? This is a common fault on the DF class boats.

For the DF classes it needs to be the one supplied by the builder to be class legal.

Thanks for the video mate! What is the range on this setup please? Considering the receiver antenna placement at sea level, We would lose a lot of signal dissipating into the water on 2.4gHZ. With the Flysky receivers, The different models cater for different applications. Which Flysky receiver would be best for across water? I would like to have no anxiety about losing range when say heading to a mark that is 250m away etc. Im not looking for a mile by any means, But what are they typically getting out to without stressing about signal loss? Thanks in advance from Australia
@modelyachtracinguk
@modelyachtracinguk Жыл бұрын
The questions you ask are more technical than my knowledge, so I can't really answer them. What I can say is that for small model yacht racing purposes the setup shown here will take the boat beyond your ability to see the boat clearly with unaided eyesight. The transmitter used here is very widely used in the UK for model yacht racing and I have used them for many years and never had signal loss whilst racing. Except after dropping the transmitter in the water, they don't work so well after that! A lot of skippers use the B version of the receiver rather than the standard one shown here, mainly due to the extra enclosure which helps keep dampness off if water gets near the electrics.

@@modelyachtracinguk That was very helpful thanks mate, I'm just getting back in RC Sailing again after many years away from it. Good to know that this setup works well as it seems to be a popular one amongst sailors. I thinks its time now to purchase a few receivers and get the fleet wet. Thanks again for your help, Great informative video mate! You take care, God bless you and yours.. Baz, Australia

I especially liked the close up shots of the action around the marks. Some very skillful skippers showed how it's done.

Hi . Thanks for you videos ! Well made and inspirational . I am not anywhere near competetive racing . But have loved sailing all my life . I have 6 boats already but am having trouble getting the winch/rudder/brain on my Skate 1000 to work . And Hobbyking in Auckland are now denying any warranty claim. Its sounds like it sat on a shelf for so long the gubbins seized up ? Can you recommend a combo I can purchase to get it operating? Posted to me in retirement in Thailand? I have a lovelly pond locally and want to go capsizing, ( oh and do you know where the binding button is on the Hurricane 1m mono? Just carnt get that to work either . zzzzzz ) Ta M

Just a tip. When de-weeding during a race, it is illegal to push a boat away when finished. The boat must be placed back on the water and move away under its own power.
