George Allen was a great motivational coach - but not a complete coach - John Riggins was there for Allen's last year and said he put all of his energy into defense & special teams - and mostly ignored the offense - he also said George Allen's idea of the perfect winning score was: 2 - 0 .

The Redskins of the early to mid 70s didn't have great athletes all over the place.. but they had a tendency to find high football IQ players. Smart players who were situational aware.

I'll say it over and over, Billy Kilmer was a tough football player. He may not have been smooth or pretty but he was a leader and a warrior who took a beating as a QB and never quit. Never had a losing season as a Redskins QB.

Opening narration is incorrect. I love NFL films and John Facenda was the best voice over talent at NFL films but the opening line here is incorrect. Maybe the script was wrong or John read it wrong but the playoff game at Minnesota was played on Saturday December 18, 1976...Not December 19. Otherwise this is an excellent video :) As a lifelong Washington fan I would love for someone to post a copy of the week 14 ( Dec 12, 1976 season) game where Washington beat Dallas (at Texas Stadium where they had never won) 27-14. There is some footage of that game in this highlight film but I would love to watch the complete game. Maybe it doesn't exist because not many people had Betamax or VHS in 1976 and I do not think either the networks or the NFL would have master copies of game broadcasts from 46 years ago. But maybe... just maybe...there is some sole out there who has Week 14 1976 Washington at Dallas on tape. If so then I hope you would consider uploading and sharing it. Thank you! :))

This would the final season that a Redskins team would make the playoffs under head coach George Allen. In Fact the Redskins wouldn't return to the playoffs until 1982 coached by Joe Gibbs which would also mark a new era for the Redskins as they would win the Super Bowl and their first league title since 1942 ushering in a new era of Washington Redskins Football.

That was INDEED a hugeee win for the Redskins!! I remember yet, 44+ years later, being glued to my grandparents TV watching this game, as a 10~year old kid living WAYYY out in Montana, far far removed from the NFC East!! :-))).....Even up to now, I'd have to say that I've never, ever seen a rivalry on the level of, & as intense as, the Cowboys+Redskins of the 1970s & up to the mid/late '80s. It transcended whatever national region you were in, and also our loyalties to other teams.
