ive done a little bit of kayak fishing, but its been awhile and im just now starting to come back to fishing and ive noticed that motorized kayak as taken over... on the issue of using trolling motor being too strong in calm water and scaring off fish when using autolock; i feel like the whole point of having a trolling motor is to fight the wind or current in busy water. if you're already in calm water and there is hardly no wind, this is already the ideal condition for kayak fishing. could always just drop an anchor or use a pole to lock in place. getting pushed around by wind or current has always been the drawback to kayak fishing, motor would fix that problem. but when neither wind or current is present, maybe just dont engage the motor.. just my 2 cents

It’s still nice to have on a calm day to lock you in place on deeper brush piles. I still up a pole or anchor every now and then, but it's just something else to bring along!

While talking about stability, you are shown sitting on your PFD. Those few inches will amplify your stability issues quite a bit. You want the center of gravity close to the bottom. Pegs aren’t set up properly either. Your knees are sticking out. Just a few tips

How long does the battery last on batteries. How long does it take to charge by solar?
@KayakKid

I haven't had to replace the batteries yet… so it will be at least a few months. The solar panel just extends the life of the batteries. I leave it out all the time, so I don't know how long it would take to recharge the built-in battery.

@@KayakKid I see the comments that say they are cheap junk. I catch more fish per hour used in that little kayak than either of the others. If people are bothered by the fact they don't have an expensive name they have their priorities wrong. The hand pump is really a non-factor. If you are paying $1400 for a kayak, you shouldn't be cutting corners by not buying a proper electric pump. Why drive yourself into the ground by being cheap at such a critical juncture? Sure, the supplied hand pump is fine...but the air mattress pump is a joke throw in. $100 will net a fine auto shutoff rechargeable/DC pump. Sure, if you are on a tight budget...but this is not a tight budget boat, so...

Just a couple of comments: if you had thigh straps and foot pegs, you and your father would not have been bounced out of the Star Raven. I recognize your maneuvers from paddling a standard decked kayak - leaning back when entering rapids and waves to raise the bow of the kayak through the wave train. You don’t do that with an inflatable because of the bow rocker and the air cells - the kayak is designed to raise high on waves - that is why you both fell out and flipped. Also, leaning left or right into the current flips the inflatable - sitting centered in the kayak with the thigh straps will enable you to cruise the most beautiful lake to maneuvering the most technical class III and IV rapids.
