Amazing work! How do you create the smear effect on the sword?
@arcelius7429

Question as an upcoming animator. Im aware you may not see this or get to this any time soon, but im curious how the sword smear frames are done. I've tried making something similar to it on my own in Maya via motion trails and whatnot but nothing quite seems to work the best so that I can make smear frames whenever I would like and be able to toggle them (it seems like the smears are only on select actions). If I could get some help or maybe even shown the way those smears were done, that would be beyond helpful. Thank you for your time and keep up the amazing animation!

Hey, in Yone's case we added extra meshes (planes) to his sword rigs so I could manipulate the shape of them. They were super simple with just a couple of controls. In this video they were just using flat colors but materials were added to them later in the game. Kiel Figgins has some good tips on sword trails on his website that might help too - www.3dfiggins.com/Store/Support/SwordSwipe/

I do experiments with different rigs. For me the take away that you both mentioned is that doing this forces you to work out a believable solution. The repetition of game animation can get a person into a rut.

questions (maybe Stupid ones) about layer. 1) Most of the time you use addtive layers or overdrive layers? 2) Using layers doesnt make the scene a little unstable? (tend to crashed frequently in my case)
@AdamTurnbullDev
@AdamTurnbullDev Жыл бұрын
Hey, I use additive layers 99% of the time but have used override layers for a couple of specific things in the past. And I've never had issues with layers causing my scene to crash so I'm not sure why that would happen for you. Try checking the log file after the crash and google the issue its having.

Easily this was an well done piece of animation, but your insight into it really is something that increases the quality of the shot, especially focusing on intent, and having a bit of contrast to the characters. Great stuff Adam!

Wow, Im blown away. I always wondered how the League doods came up with such crazy but believable cycles and for such crazy characters, but now I think i get it. Everythings is a skip, even runs where the air pose is favored ends up feeling like a skip kinda. I could be wrong but I can't unsee it now haha. Thanks my guy! This vid really helped me learn something.
