Here's the workflow breakdown video of the Zelda attack animation I did. I tried to keep it short, simple, digestible and just focus on the main things I think about when animating something like this. Hope its useful in some way!

Wanna know Link’s champion ability? Trust me when I played as him he farted so much and it SMELLED! Like my camera had to be behind him when he did it, like, seriously Link? The only things he’s ever eaten in the game is simmered fruit. It’s all he’s gotten from hearty durians. I don’t know what is in those things but it did something in his system. I tried to stop feeding him in general by only sleeping and rarely getting hit, but guess what? HIS FARTS WERE EVEN SMELLIER THAN BEFORE!!! He was like on his boss level of farting. I went to the least polluted place I know, Korok Forest. It is a wonderfully beautiful place, until everything died from you know what! Damn Link! Like, bro chill!

Gesture is a confusing but essential concept to both drawing and animation, but this video strengths my intuition that it's easier to understand it it terms of motion than a still image, which gives the advantage to animators when it comes to teaching it. When someone says gesture is the "rhythm" of a pose, it's difficult to understand what they're talking about or what a bunch of wavy lines superimposed onto a figure is supposed to refer to. The single best explanation for what gesture is I've heard so far is, "the bare minimum notation for a figure" coupled with the analogy of motion capture technology used for special effects in movies. And even that still leaves much to be desired. I recommend watching the special features on movies like Alita Battle Angel because, going with the analogy, it also demonstrates how the same principle is applied to a character's facial expressions and shows that rhythm exists in forms of every scale: arms and legs have their own rhythms that act like lines of action: the arms have an upward curving rhythm inherent to their structure, while the legs form an s curve. I'm no expert or anything -- this is just what I've learned as an amateur.

Quick question; where would your key poses be? And how do you see the shape of your character if you have to view it at all angles? Is it also better to animate the face while working on body mechanics or better separate in your experience? Lastly, when animating this, is it better to have IK or FK limbs for the hand with the sword?

Great animation, but I feel like it's too different to the way link is animated in BOTW. If this is how zelda ends up being animated then it would also link to have a drastic change in animation as well. But it's stil great. Keep up the good work.
