If the carrier is not showing then check that you have the show unit button toggled at the bottom of the mission editor. Otherwise I don't know as things are constantly broken and fixed during various updates.

Yes you can use a trigger to tell them to move to a waypoint inside the airfield. But I find that using the manual radio menu trigger to be better.

There is another video like this with the FARP thumbnail. It was made around the same time.

You could set up a trigger to explode the units when they get to less than 5% health but that is a lot of work. You could also report the issue to the testing team in the ED discord as it may be a bug.

I think it's to do with the low altitude tracking. It has what looks like a laser range finder on the turret.

@@DCSChopsticks I wasn't aware of the laser on there at all! As I really looked at it, it also appears the search radar is up top spinning, then there is a flat panel radar on the "front' of the turret. I assume that is the tracking radar, which would explain why it needs to orient in the direction of the target. I suppose I just needed to think on it for a minute :)

It's been a while, but I think in the advanced waypoint options there is one called "no report waypoint pass" or similar. That will shut it up telling you where it is and what alt etc without you contacting it.

If you are playing with just friends in a cat and mouse mobile Sam hunting game with pilots vs SAM/AAA then yes it's very fun and can be done using combined arms dlc. You need to set the unit as drivable in the mission editor and it works better to add tactical commander roles to the side with the drivable vehicles.

The AI is dumb sometimes. Make sure the skill is set to one of the two higher levels. Try a different unit. Try altering the route slightly. Try changing between "on road" and "off road" in the route type. It's also possible that the latest update has introduced a bug or changed how the waypoints work.

I can try. I expect it will be a combination of using the radio menu and late activation without using scripts. There is unlikely to be any videos until at least August 😬.

In the mission I set up the armour to hold at a waypoint until a trigger told it that all red units inside were dead. When I get back to making videos it will get its own video. The Mission Editor is so complicated I try and keep the videos shorter and to the point. I will release longer more detailed videos eventually, but I am struggling for time between work and house projects at the moment.

I was half way through making a video on cruise missiles before I moved. Once I get the office finished and back to DCS I will try and re-make that as it was made back on the last version of DCS and things may have changed in the last 12 months.

Set the skill to one of the highest two levels and set the engagement range to suit the sorts of target aircraft you want them to attack.

This is not a tutorial for how to destroy the site. You want a tutorial on notching missiles, using decoys or using iron hand tactics to overload the site. There are loads of different ways to kill them, depending on what you are flying.

@@DCSChopsticks fair enough. I've been reading the DCS user manual. It's very detailed but it's not great at explaining sequencing. I'm trying to set up a mission where I can spawn in 10 enemy aircraft to dogfight. I don't see how I am going to achieve this based strictly off user manual reference.

You can change YT playback speed using the settings cog on the video. Different people like the videos at different speeds.

I haven't made a mission with locked spawns. I know that you can use code to unlock the slots.

The show/hide unit button used to be on the bottom row of buttons. It used to look like a tank. Toggling that should make things show up.

There is an option to show or hide units so check these.

Did you set it to be uncontrolled AI? Then use the radio to trigger the flight to activate? The WP is probably down to the F14 only being able to follow 4 waypoints (from memory)

@@DCSChopsticks I had it on uncontrolled (the takeoff works) and it’s set to 4 waypoints, but it won’t orbit at the waypoint that I want it to orbit at, it will just follow the waypoints and strike the target

In the aircraft which come with the Flaming Cliffs DLC, there is an option to have the plane call out missiles. It can be useful.

I think I have had that since the beta update where they introduced it. But I really cant remember. It may be that the thumbnails are gone now, I havent had time to even open DCS since last june 😬

If it wont fire at you then it could be blocked from having line of sight. It could also not be set to a high enough skill. These are good first things to check.

I cant remember, but I dont think so in the base mission editor. If you use scripting then it should be possible.

There are a lot of flyable Russian aircraft in DCS, so its good to know the meters and KM as well. It saves a few seconds of conversion for those players who prefer to fly those aircraft.

But for the majority of players, it makes it much harder. Gotta know your audience man. ​@@DCSChopsticks

I think it will be difficult and complicated. Maybe it could be done manually with the radio menu to switch them from hold fire to weapons free. If you want to practice dogfights then it would be far easier to find someone to practice with.

@DCSChopsticks It's dumb to me that-at best-it's highly complicated to do that with ai in dcs. Yeah, I would pvp, but I like to fly f14 and my experience doing pvp high aspect guns in f14 has been miserable since August 2020. So if I want to have a good time("good time" here means win) flying the f14 in dcs for guns bfm, I'm reduced/isolated to fighting ai in single player. My experience with F14B is "10/2019-8/2020=awesome for pvp" F14B "8/2020-present=miserably wretched worthless piece of shit for pvp"

Did you try: setting them to a higher difficulty or try the search and engage in zone task instead of CAP? There have been a lot of game updates since i made this video, so something may have changed.

It is possible that a recent update has stopped this working. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do anything on DCS since June when I moved house. It will be sometime next year before I can get back to mission making in DCS.
