Joe, Nice trout but it was already dead when you "released" it. Winter weather out of the water freezes fish just as fast as it freezes you - maybe faster because they start out around 40 degrees. Thanks for releasing but for them to survive you gotta do it quicker.
@JoeHollandFishing
@JoeHollandFishing 2 күн бұрын
Good call it’s hard to truly know. As anglers we can always do better . One telltale sign is if eyeballs freeze or fins freeze and in this case it was far from freezing . I think trout are much tougher than people give credit. I see DNR dropping them from flying planes over water and off of bridges

I wouldn’t spend $2,000 on old technology when you have newest tech at a price just a bit more. if they just sell the cable for few hundred I would think more would buy it for their old units. I seen a video on this unit about 2 weeks ago and thought garmin was taking greedy to another level. Buy the newest technology and don’t regret a expensive purchase (that goes for almost anything)
@JoeHollandFishing

I understand what you are saying . I think this is more as a sidekick to the livescope, or a great entry level initiative and also great lightweight unit with ffs for the hope hoppers that fish a hundred spots a day. It’s just another tool that when used correctly can be incredibly efficient and helpful. It will be in my arsenal. I thought I saw MSRP around $1899 and usually stores sell it for less . The clamshell transducer and no need for a pole are big gains same with no black box

Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC's) 1933-1942; my father lied about his age in order to get in during the depression and was lucky to get a second tour with them. Later he convinced his younger brother to join and he stayed until WW II broke out. My father had to calm his younger brother to calm down and wait until the end of his commitment to sign up in the Army, since my dad figured out they could earn $2.00 more per month in the CCC's. Then they joined the Army. We did not get a TV until '55 or '57 even though my uncle had a radio and TV repair shop. We paid $5.00 for the bus for high school but it covered us for 5 or 6 weeks. The driver would punch our card for each trip so if you missed a day of school the pass lasted longer! But the bus was a local bus route that only did the scheduled route and that was close enough on both ends.

Years ago when I got my first deer, I was up in Maine with my friend and his brother staying at their grandfathers (Maine guide) camp. The camp had a root cellar under the kitchen floor which was lined with large rocks and capped with a nice fitting thick wood cover. It kept everything they needed except ice cream. When I got my deer Loyd (my friends grandfather) suggested I have his friend Smitty show me how to dress the deer properly. Smitty was 92 years old at the time and he went at it with the excitement of passing on this great information. Once it was done, Loyd suggested that I should offer the heart and liver to Smitty since that was the tradition and he will enjoy it for breakfast. I did as Loyd suggested but, I also went down to the local store where I registered my deer and bought several rounds of ice cream for all of us. Loyd and Smitty thought they were in heaven with the ice cream. Great memories, and appropriate since Joe has a ice cream shop.
