Always check your bearings before each trip. Bearing buddy is really easy to install and use. Looks like you got lucky. I also carry a spare hub assembly in the trailer box in case there is an issue spotted after being out. Good luck Joe.

Put a lot of miles dragging my boat from Canada to Florida Keys fishing. Smoked a spindle once & lost two months of fishing as they had to source a new spindle. Another time a bearing failed and cooked the wheel hub. Caught the problem just in time and, with a lot of “just being a good guy” I was able to find a shop and be back on the road in four hours right before a Canadian Holiday! This was during COVID and I was in Canada! I maintain my running gear religiously. I check bearing temperatures (just hold the Bearing Buddy for a moment to sense temperature) at every stop. I walk around the trailer and truck at every stop. I have all the spare tools, gear and quality bearings, lube and seals. Should carry a spare hub. But, crap happens when you use things a lot and things break and can undo themselves with potholes and road debris. Lost a Bearing Buddy on potholes when on a remote Canadian road once. Cracked a trailer crossmember a different time. Only a couple of flat tires due to road debris. When the boat is off the trailer, check the bunks and trailer frame for “wiggles”, rust and frame cracks. Just part of the Journey. Special Note: Driving fast with a trailer, especially in the summer is extremely hard on bearings and tires. Even more wear if the boat is loaded with fuel and gear. Driving hard with cold tires can be brutal on tires. Driving fast in rain and you will learn what hydroplaning will feel like. If trailering when temps are below freezing and foggy, expect Black Ice and zero stopping ability. Trailering in snow and you might see your trailer start to pass you! Go easy and really look for Clues to problems such as a slight leak in a hydraulic break line on a new trailer!!! Yep, happened at the beginning of a 1,800 mile trip. That involved a lot of stops to keep the hydraulic break lines topped off. 40+ years of trailering boats and snowmobiles will get you a lot of Adventures. Even ran out of gas once. Last time I ever trailed without a 5-gallon Jerry Can for myself or some other fool on the road. Be well.

People hating on single axle trailers, gonna run tandems. Then they have two axles they don’t maintain. How about one like the factory recommended and take care of it? Glad you are taking it all in stride. Lesson learned. I at least repack and replace the seals yearly. Also, check DOT date on tires and replace. I do mine at about 7 years.

Just had a buddy pick up his new Polaris 4 seat off road Pro RZR with his buddies landscape trailer. On the way home he heard a semi honk and him, and he didn't understand why. After coming to a stop down the road, he found out one of the wheels was missing. He didn't know where or when it flew off of the tandem axle trailer. I said you spend 30K on a vehicle and put it on a POS trailer. I'm never surprised when I see trailers broken down. Joe, just make sure the Ski-doo Expedition is on a well maintained trailer before winter.....

I recently got my Grandfathers boat from my uncle. He swapped out the tires, and, as he is an uber mechanic, i assume he greased up the bearings and such on the old trailer. The bearings are different than ones i have seen before, they dont have a cap over them, so im super skeptical of taking it anywhere for just this reason. Aside from gettin a new trailer i am not sure how to rememdy the situation. I assume the trailer is from the 60s.

I was following my uncle home after a day out fishing on his boat. He was going down a hill hit a bump and the trailer came unhitched from his truck then turned left and started to pass him. It got right beside his truck then took another hard left and went over a 8 ft embankment. We pulled over I thought he was going to be super upset, all he said was “ I knew I was in a little trouble when I looked over and the boat was trying to pass me”. We all busted up laughing. Up grade to a Dexter style axle that is crossed drilled to force grease from the inner bearing to the outside and eliminate the bearing buddy use the dust covers with the rubber plug way easier to add new grease and check the condition of the grease

@@JoeHollandFishing they MFI are no longer in business. They used unique axles, that's the name of the axle manufacturer. Dexter has since bought out unique, so if you need parts it's a struggle to find them. I just completely service both axles on the trailer I have now, weird bearing and seal sizes.
