Years ago done a lot of stock removal but never had the opportunity to forge. Live right over the mountain from you.

That is pretty cool that you live so close. I have found myself doing more stock removal of late than forging when it comes to my knife making. I apprecite you watching.

Had I not seen the full length version in its entirety I might say the pace of this video was too fast to understand what was going on. However, I did see it and watch it in-full, at 1x speed, so I enjoyed seeing this high speed rendition. However, I am also a blacksmith and understand and appreciate the amount of work involved. So many heats! ❤️

It did end up being faster than I had wanted, I will make sure they slow it down next time. I appreciate you watching.

If the centre punch works it's probably okay to drill. Went through a lot of drill bits learning that. Im annealing between stages All the time. Use a bucket of fine quartz sand of property. Works great

is it still in service? and if so hows the edge retention? 5160 has a rep for bad edge retention but ive found at higher hardness it holds up pretty dang good.
@Mysticmountainforge21 күн бұрын
I use it daily with a wood cutting board, and since this video I have only had to sharpen it twice and that was just touching up the edge. I use it for mainly cutting boneless meats. I was very impressed with its performance. I appreciate you watching.

I like your work, and find it inspiring. I've been meaning to make a wrench knife, but don't have any broken ones, and can't bring myself to use a functional one as raw material. Have even bought several garage sale wrenches to sacrifice, but end up using them as wrenches. I'll get around to it someday. Do you use it, and if so, how did the steel perform as a blade?
@Mysticmountainforge24 күн бұрын
Thanks! I appreciate you watching! I have never even used it, a lot of the ones I make like this one are more novelty items to sit on a shelf, but I have had people buy them in the past and actually use them, they say they hold up pretty well for the most part.

Very beautiful knife, exelent work! I’m quite new to metalwork in generall, and I saw that you quenched another way than most others I have seen. Does this have any effect on the bladde? Thanks for sharing!
@MysticmountainforgeАй бұрын
Thanks! I appreciate you watching! Edge quenching is used a lot more than people realize, ABS mastersmith J. Neilson does all of his regular steel knives that way, it allows the edge to harden and keep a sharp edge while keeping the spine soft which allows for better durability, especially in chopping.

Why to drill so many holes in thr tang? Wouldnt it make the tang weak?
@MysticmountainforgeАй бұрын
It doesn't effect the strength of the tang much at all. The purpose is to lighten the knife for use.
