I can’t believe how rarely it gets mentioned Tom’s style is in every modern day pro surfers. Put Ethan Ewing split screen with Tom curren and tell me that isn’t uncanny. It’s almost identical.

Curren no doubt about it, he surfed that first wave with less than the half of advances of the design of boards that Jordy enjoyed at 2014... Jordy is one of my favorites, he is is so great, but never better than Curren

No comparison TC hands down better and more risky deeper harder smoother and more complete turns and moves very satisfying to watch

Not many people ride boards like what curren was riding anymore it’s almost a lost art form the way he was surfing

Strange one surfers riding such a longer board and the other surfer though he's young his surfing looks contrived. The older surfer looks in the moment the other is just surfing for points.

i was the guy he sprayed on the first carve…with the different colored arms black body wetsuit…was there for 2mths before and after they left…the place is amazing that month they were there it pumpd…curren franky derek amazing time…glad to have been a participant💪🏾🤘🏾

First watching Jordy I think: there's no way Curren's wave will be better than this....but Curren's style is so unreal I think his wave is actually better surfed

The only person I think I would add with these two would be John John, his big top to bottom power carves are unmatched. But yeah, the wave by Tom Curren here is poetry in motion, first wave non the less.

Curren. By a mile for me.. it’s the bottom turns. There is intent in every position Curren puts himself in on a wave. Jordy is a bit choppy at the bottom. Every move Curren makes is both a maneuver and the perfect set up for the next. It must be so fun to be able to surf like he does.

Tom Currens first wave at Jbay was actually filmed by Thomas Desoto, Sonny Millers best friend. Desoto was responsible for all the shots from land, where as Sonny was in the water with his camera and water housing, getting all the barrel shots for the first movie, Searching For Tom Curren.

They both crushed it. Different styles.. one was competing and one was probably just blown away at how good that wave is.

You are all crazy. I've seen Kelly destroy J-Bay with at least a dozen waves that were better than either of these two waves.

A few legends have done this other than our prodigal son, Marco from l j did the same as well because when you are faced w that for the first title it doesn’t matter to such creatures of absolute style... that’s how they got there with pure froth, pure pure froth. Blessed to have a lil of that feelin at the queen once and it’s one that’s instantly etched in your mind. A good first one is a definite thing of beauty.

It’s all about the bottom turn, not the top turn....Curren’s rail lines are some of the longest and smoothest you will ever see. No one surfs like that anymore.

Curren’s flow was graceful and efficient, not a wasted motions. Jordy looks like he is working hard in every section. Just compare the use of the bottom turn for the setup.

They are on such different boards and have different styles, but I think TC will last the test of time. The claim and bail at the end for Jordy should have cost him the 10! :)
