Uf I haven't heard this one in years. One of my favorite Soft Cells songs. Love that ending. Tainted Love is good, but is far from their best. I like a lot of Marc Almond's solo work. The Stars We Are is a good album.

Adrian Borland was genius - his band " The Sound " power trio - and later his solo stuff - sadly lost his life because of mental illnes ( not drugs ) . SUICIDE .

Hey Alex, I don't know about your knowledge of this one, but a lot of these tracks were recorded at sound checks during the Monster tour, or dressing room rehearsels during the same tour. The studio tracks are much more smoothe, and melodic. Surprisingly to me, Michael Stipe says this his favorite REM album of them all for a long time, but recently, says that Reveal has become his sentimental favorite. Just passing on his wisdom to you because I appreciate you so much. I feel the same about the hard guitar sound. I don't enjoy REM's hard rock guitar sound-I hated Monster when it was released. It ripped my heart out, and I avoided any new REM for many years.

I love this album because of how much variety is on it. This variety is also reason why the Clash said Punk Rock died with this album because it got rid of the boundaries of classic punk. And while it still has punk songs like Clampdown, Koka Kola, and Four Horsemen, it makes the statement that any song can be punk as long as the message is. And that’s why you have songs like lovers rock and lost in the supermarket which are so different from original sound! Also if you really like more poppy sounds try their next album, Sandinista. It’s very long, has some stinkers, and the production is not as clear but there are some really good songs you can find in there!

There are so many elements that make the band unique, too many to list, but one of the things i like is that Kevin sings a lot of the high parts and Bilinda in the lower register, which juxtaposes what you'd expect. It's another thing that throws you off centre, along with the floaty guitar, weird chords and production genius! Ecstasy & Wine is interesting as it distills everything down to it's core elements, the signature sound isn't quite there yet so you get to hear more of the melodies and songwriting in a more direct way as Alex mentioned 😊

Your observation on Loveless and Pop songs, thats something that many modern shoe gaze bands forget. It's ultimately the songs that makes MBV so great. Then you've got the delicious sonics layered on top. Lots of bands are more worried about fuzz settings and not enough about the pop song underpinning it all.

@@AlexHaitz My older brother gave me "Loveless" when it came out. I was confused the first couple listens. After the third, I bought every single shoegaze CD that came out. What's odd is that Tempe, AZ, had a thriving shoegaze scene and I was attending ASU. The best two bands were Alison's Halo and another called Half String. I think my ears are still ringing from their gigs... here's a truly horribly video I made of one of their tracks. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q65kY5CeyN2Zn3k.htmlsi=20XR9f0xB45gXaJJ

Phil Collins were the lead singer all over this song and 1975 album replacing Peter Gabriel who left after their concept album "The Lamb lies down on Broadway" in 1974. Also it were a difficult situation going to vocals, coming from a drummer seat. It is mainly a soft ballad but Genesis have several and diverses styles and areas with obviously strong or fast songs as well. It's a big rabbit hole you can only discover full of surprises and goodies if you like it. Progressive music from 1970 to 1980, then became more pop from there. Try "Firth of fifth" from 1973. Warmly recommended!
