I have had a bad back for 5 years, yesterday i treid to some physio which just made it worse. Do you suggest ice or heat for this? I'm not sure, because although I've had a bad back for years, whats made it really bad is something new. Thanks

Actually this is the first day I can reach my toes again after 1,5 yrs. Well there was a few times I actually managed to just align it, please nobody ever go there, I have a special brain condition and actually for me the solution was learning about myself, most people I encountered never ever believed me, but yeah if u have the time support money and the luck of being able to trust in yourself and god, it takes very strong will but it’s possible, I can sit here and show u scoliosis on my spine then reverse it the only thing freaky about it really is it looks like a demon would possess me for a moment but besides that, it’s actually just focusing 100% on yourself and only recording the surroundings until it’s safe to make unaccounted movements, reconfiguring all the muscles it just looks pretty weird standing there using half of your body to stabilize and half to reconfigure the pattern in which I can move, it’s taxing but I’ve always been quite flexible so I hope I get away with it healthy. The only ones that actually believed I was in control were monks and quite expensive private doctors, society stamps u as done, I went to the spa daily, did floating, shiatsu, neurostim, drugs like ketamine, drank lots and lots of healthy teas.

Sometimes if something was still missing aligned I just waited and wished for the position I would need to be in and it worked for me. Most of it was also letting go of stress, staying calm, actually learning to meditate and control my brain, making plans overcoming trauma, making allies, it was a crazy hustle.

With that exercise you're only goint to tense more your psoas and increase your pain. Thats absolutely incorrect if you have some kind of previous condition in your spine.

Thanks for your comment, we can assure you that it does not when done properly. It certainly will not be exerting more force than the load of the torso on the spine in the standing position.

Interesting I'm kind of against belly breathing and cue lateral thoracic breathing with my clients teaching them through points of contact to feel and understand neutral spine! but I get what you say engaging those deep abdominals via exhalation and those last three breaths pushing the air out is effective. I'm no fan of pelvic tilts and through experience with clients with lower back pain especially disc problems it is something that they dont want to be doing. Matt the pilates teacher

do we need to have our knees bent and stretched for this and the towel? or does it matter if we place our knees and legs flat? Thanks for the great help!

It's a pleasure, personally i like having the legs bent - definitely best when you. first start it, but some people find that they like it with the legs straight too - just know if you have some L5/S1 issues, it can be less pleasant with the legs straight.

I’ve never really understood this, there’s a story about because we all sit the hips are tight and tipping the pelvis anteriorly but when we sit usually our pelvis are tucking posteriorly and low back is rounded. So how can sitting cause hyperlordosis if people are sitting in a flexed low back position?
@BackInShapeProgram
@BackInShapeProgram 8 күн бұрын
It won't is the short answer :D but good observation, people just don't sit upright like that, that's not to say there may not be a degree of stiffness, but generally there is a load of stiffness in the hamstrings too!

I had severe lower back spasms and tried stretching, heat, ice, TENS, ibuprofen, and muscle relaxants. Nothing worked. I went to my grandma's house and she gave me No Salt. I drank 1 tsp in a bit of water with a cracker. Within hours my muscles completely relaxed. The pain used to be a 9-10. Now it's a 0-2, but only because I need to work on my poor sitting posture and I have a stiff back (the pain is not bothersome) I went from months of agonizing pain to incredibly relaxed muscles and incredible calm in two days.

I have had chronic low back pain for 12 years and the recent flare up started 6 months ago and it’s daily/weekly pain. My MRI showed mild facet hypertrophy at L4 L5 and X ray showed slight hyperlordosis. Running used to help me recover but it seems to be aggravating the pain so my Physio banned it for now (along with high intensity weight lifting) :( Also, your videos are great but they seem to be specific to disc issues or sciatica. I did find 1 video on facet joint which was helpful. Do you have any general and specific recommendations on exercise program, stretches, nutrition etc that can help my condition? If there are any relevant videos I should watch then a playlist could be helpful
@BackInShapeProgram
@BackInShapeProgram 13 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment, the channel really is focussed on our experience over the years with back issues. The lumbar spine or segments of the spine are so interrelated, for example, it is impossible to move the disc without moving the facet and visa versa. the majority of people with low back issues will have primary disc involvement, but then when the discs become damaged the facets inevitably have to be involved in some way too. With that in mind the strategy to build a strong back is the exercises and practices we talk about as we have all manner of patient and member diagnoses working through the program and finding success. To your specific isuess if there is significant hyperlordosis i.e. somewhere in the order of a 50 degree lumbar curve then there is often a degree of shearing on the discs which isn't ideal long term, as well as compression of the facets - its all related :) the best bet would be to work on the masterclass video as the most comprehensive guide, use some of the tutorial videos for the exercises or if you want, check out the membership to the program on our website: backinshapeprogram.com :)

Just found this video today. My partner went quad biking last weekend and has not been able to walk upright since then. He's in a lot of pain on the left leg with pain shooting from lower back/buttocks down the front thigh. He can't sleep, can't stand up right. The GP says it's sciatica and gave painkillers and a link to self referral for physio. I will share this with him to watch. He is currently trying acupuncture. I'm not sure if that's a wise option. Any advice on that, please? Thank you very much

Strengthening the spine in neutral is the first and yes I have taught clients who are flexion intolerant mainly due to disc bulge. I agree with you don't imprint if you have a back problems and yes hip mobility is crucial I'm constantly working on this with my clients. We need to do functional movements Squats Lunges and hip hinge movements and balance work. However I myself have stenosis in by lower back and flexion does ease the pain and I do flex my lower back for that. I've been teaching for 19 years and am fully qualified on the whole machine repertoire and have a small studio in Rye East Sussex. I trained with Body control pilates and was a supervising teacher for them . They are well versed in dealing with back pain and I would recommend those interested in doing pilates to find a teacher qualified with them . They would be aware of the issues you discussed in your video. Functional movement and Spinal integrity is a must! Matt the pilates teacher
@BackInShapeProgram
@BackInShapeProgram 13 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment Matt. Good to hear you guys are working on this. I think as for your stenosis, understanding the cause of the stenosis is important as if it is a disc bulge then there could be issues with this as stenosis isn't really a sufficient diagnosis in itself (in our opinion) just like sciatica - it doesn't tell the whole picture at all. i.e. what is causing the stenosis. We do find generally that most with stenosis of various causes, including things like spondylolisthesis or facet hypertrophy, can build the back to a point where these movements are simply unnecessary. (as part of a training regimen) As most will have ample flexion incorporated into their daily lives. The purpose for many behind exercise is to provide the body with something it is missing from daily life and when the average adult spends 9.5 hours a day sitting (with flexion) in our opinion there is little to no reason that flexion needs to be an additional feature in their exercise practice too.
@matthewbeumer3168
@matthewbeumer3168 13 күн бұрын
Yes in total agreement with you why reinforce a movement pattern that many are stuck in their daily routine too much emphasis is placed on spinal flexion to strengthen the core !

I struggle with lower back pain at least once every year. Sometimes when I am under severe pain with a stiff lower back, i go jogging. By the time I finish a 5km, the pain is either gone or greatly reduced. Recently i could not even go jogging while under severe pain. I ended up in A&E, i was given just pain killers. I have been attending a spinologist, he advises me to stop jogging however my GP advises me to keep being active as i am suffering from a mechanical lower back pain. A few days ago i got up with a severe lower back pain, after doing my morning routine exercise, i went for a long walk by the time i came back, i was feeling much better. Can you kindly advise me whether to keep jogging or what I should do.

You need to do some proper rehabilitation work to build strength in the back, The jogging long term (depending on a few things) is probably fine/helpful but not without proper rehab to rebuild the strength of the low back and spine.
