I haven't used solar before. Does the solar charge the battery? What happens when you have cloudy days?
@TechsteadLife5 күн бұрын
Yes it does! We've got it hooked up to 2 batteries. Cloudy days it doesn't charge as optimally, so they really on the battery power to keep the cameras and lights going. We've only had one day with 5 consecutive cloudy days that has been a problem for the batteries, but that can be fixed by adding more solar panels and more batteries.

At what temperature did you freeze dry them? And for how long ? Thank you
@TechsteadLife5 күн бұрын
We used the default settings, so I believe it was 125 degrees on the machine. The entire process took about 40 hours for freeze drying.

Hi James, As I am new to all of this, I tend to get a bit nervous about whether to warm trays or not and how long would I do it for if I am meant to warm trays? It would be cool if you had a guide to share of warming trays or not for certain foods. Thank you so much for the awesome videos, they are so easy to follow 🌻
@TechsteadLifeАй бұрын
No problem! I'll work out a guide for that. If you check out the guides on the website at techstead.life it'll tell you which ones individually need trays warmed or not. As a general rule, I've never seen any normal foods that need trays warmed. Warming trays mostly applies to hard candies that need warmth to make them more malleable.
@skyvefnАй бұрын
I am really enjoying your videos, thank you 🙏 Just a couple of questions please….do the Bannanas taste a little like lemon, and do you warm the trays and if so, for how long? I live in Australia Tasmania and I have only just received my Harvest Right and intend on Bannanas being my next batch. Thank you 🌻
@TechsteadLifeАй бұрын
No tray warmers needed for bananas, if anything you may want to pre-freeze them to make it faster. From my perspective, the lemon juice doesn't make it taste like lemon at all, maybe a little more "tangy". I can hardly tell the difference between the taste of lemon juiced bananas and non-juiced bananas. I'd say experiment with a few with and without and see if you can tell the difference.

Are store bought freeze dried products unreasonably expensive? Roughly how many medium bananas to make 50g freeze dried? Please and thanks.
@TechsteadLifeАй бұрын
Good question! I would say that some freeze dried products are pretty unreasonably expensive, and they can come in a wide variety of prices. Fruits take a LOT longer than candies to freeze dry so they will likely cost a little more. Not sure about how many bananas is in 50g of freeze dried, we did around 76 bananas in this run and had a HUGE 5 gallon bag of them. We didn't measure the weight before/after. Next time I run bananas I'll be sure to weigh one before and after and update this thread and let you know!

The green frame is for drones in the way you can use it for mite control. Mites like drones better because they are bigger. Let it fill up get capped over and then freeze it. It will kill everything on that frame including all the mites, in theory reducing the numbers of mites without sacrificing workers. Good luck!
