I’m primarily a stills shooter. I’ve always been happy with the results from 1 inch sensors, and the pocket 3 doesn’t disappoint at all. I haven’t been able to get the raw files processed to my liking but the JPEGs are really great and hold up surprisingly well to heavy editing. Especially in Snapseed. The results look fantastic on my 65 inch 4K tv. No complaints here. I might even shoot video on it one day

I mean...its not really iPhone OR pocket 3, it's given that I already have an iPhone 15 Pro Max, should I also get a pocket 3 (I can't check emails or play games or watch youtube videos on the Pocket 3). I guess if someone already had a phone and was debating keeping their current phone or upgrading it, it would make more sense in that regard, but to me, it's not like you would leave your phone at home because you are carrying the pocket 3, so its always an additional thing to carry. I find their feature sets are very close. I think the pocket 3 really shows its value when using the MovMAX blade arm, for vehicle shooting, that is the scenario where I think it makes a ton of sense.

yeah, but I don't know if this is really a fair comparison, I don't think anyone is going to say "i am not gonna buy a phone and buy the pocket instead", so you are already going to be spending some money on a phone potentially. if you are weighing the pros and cons of upgrading to the 15 pro, then yeah it might make sense to view it from that perspective, but its almost a given that you are gonna own a phone. I also always have my phone with me, I don't normally carry other stuff with me at all times.

@@MaximoJoshua I’m that guy I guess:) I rock an iPhone SE 2 from straight talk as my daily driver ($150-that’s it) and before was buying unlocked flagship iPhones for the camera alone. Pocket + SE is still at least $500 cheaper as a combo than a new iPhone Pro.

I acquired my iPhone 15 Pro long before I got the Pocket 3. The one thing that did impress me about the new iPhone was the image quality of Apple Log compared to my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Apple Log is impressively clean coming out of an iPhone. The one thing I hope they fix with the iPhone is that when I record with the Blackmagic app, I am allowed to record in Apple Log with my (128GB) iPhone 15 Pro. However, the iPhone camera itself does not allow me to film in Apple Log unless I attach an external drive. Which is strange to me. I'm guessing it's assuming I will use up my 128GB on my iPhone too fast? Still, I should be able to shoot in Apple Log with the iPhone camera without the BM app. In the end, I would happily use the Pocket 3 over my iPhone because it provides a lot more creative choices for filming that the iPhone cannot provide. Like seeing yourself as you film. The ability to track yourself making it look like someone else is filming you. You know the rest. Thanks for the comparison. It's always good to look at our choices for creating content.
@MaximoJoshuaКүн бұрын
kinda in the same boat, I use the iphone on the osmo mobile 6 gimbal, and you can still do all the tracking stuff that way. You can also monitor yourself on an ipad or a laptop, or using a monitor if you wanna rig it up.
@connormccaskillКүн бұрын
Yeah the BM app is really the only way to go when filming Apple log. Idk why Apple makes their own camera app such a pain

Thanks for this video. Wondering about your opinion in case you never need to record yourself (see yourself in the screen of recording device) - would you still pick Pocket over the iPhone 15 Pro?

Harder choice for that. I guess I’d probably pick the iPhone at that point since the OP3 is an extra purchase.

Manual is a great. But if you feel overwhelmed starting off with Aperture priority is great. You pick your aperture and the camera will select everything else. Then you can use Shutter priority. Once you get the hang of those then going manual isn’t as overwhelming. If you want to “run and gun” aperture priority works really well.

Hey Connor, Great video. Question. I plan to use this lens on DJI RS3 gimbal aswell! The zoom isnt internal. So when you move from 24 to 105 while its on gimbal. Does that throw off the weight distribution on the gimbal ? I mean does the motors go nuts ?
@connormccaskill4 күн бұрын
It does throw it off a bit, but the motors are pretty strong. I balance the gimbal with the lens at 65mm give or take so that it is more balanced when zooming in and out.

Hi Connor & thank you for this wonderful tutorial on the R50. I bought one today & this is the best Beginner Tutorial I've come across. You have a knack of explaining more complicated things, such as using Manual mode, which has always confused me but you made it simple to understand. I have an old Nikon D3300 & I've always used it in full Auto because I didn't understand Manual plus the manual changes aren't reflected on the LCD screen so it was total guesswork. I like that newer cameras show exactly how your photo/video will look. Thank you so much for this tutorial, I've bookmarked it as I'll have to watch it a number of times & make notes on frequently used settings in a pocket notebook to keep in my camera bag. Greetings from Tasmania, kind regards, Tony

This is a great video idea! Thanks for sharing it. Personally, I love my Pocket 3. The quality is good enough for social media and KZfaq, and it's so easy to whip it out, take smooth shots, then throw it back into my bag. It lets me focus on my trip and enjoy the moments more compared to a taking out a heavier setup where I'll have to fiddle with settings to get the shot right. It's an amazing little video camera that makes me want to shoot more video.

Nice to see some S9 love after a lot of (imo unwarranted) hate. I actually own S9 and Pocket 3 (and S5ii), and enjoy them both. I don’t take photos with the osmo, only video. It’s such a great casual video tool. But S9 is great at both photos and video and now my daily carry. For me a lot of the fun is in the app integration, I use the auto transfer and realtime LUT a lot. Nice to be shooting and have the photos waiting for me in my phone camera roll with the SOOC look that I want.
