This is an incredible renovation! I am looking into doing a similar project to create a home office.. Can you tell me the size of the finished room? The final result is beautiful!

Hmmm, first time we poured concrete we used an old mixer that ran off a washing machine motor. Bought a truckload of sand, a load of gravel, both of which we hauled ourselves from the local quarry and then got 94lb bags of Louisville/Portland cement...and poured a whole lot more than little stepping blocks, lol.
@MrKistel22 сағат бұрын
That is awesome. Did it turn out ok?
@Rebel966815 сағат бұрын
@@MrKistel Turned out fine. I don't think we had any actual rebar so we ended up using everything from an old net wire fence to fence posts as a substitute. Pappy drove a truck for CT Hertzch and the hauled for and were right across the road from the Louisville/Portland cement plant in Speed, Indiana and so got the cement bags deeply discounted. We poured our front porch, a walkway to the driveway, a border around the gravel driveway, a foundation for a pole barn and most of its floor except in the pens where we put up our cattle and horses at night. Our neighbor was always on hand to help so we did some pouring jobs at his place too to return the favor.

How did you get the posts in?
@MrKistel22 сағат бұрын
Some were dug with a post hole digger and many old poles were reused. The old pilings were originally set using a water pump to make holes.

U have to be train for years to be able to do this if not yu can never do it
@lonnieblakley80252 күн бұрын
Don't mix it t his way. Use a wheel barrel and a rake. Position the wheel barrel so you can add water on the downhill side. Use rake to blend the edges into the water. That way you can control the water and you don't get clumps. Then you can dump concrete into form without much shoveling. Also level form with stakes. And you don't need rebar for stuff like that.
@anagramconfirmed17172 күн бұрын
Wrong. It's a LOT harder to float small stuff. Pour a 4'x4'.
@MrKistelКүн бұрын
that is a fair point.

not as critical for regions with mild climates
@fightfortheuser58362 күн бұрын
Uh . . . guess you live in an environment where the ground doesn't freeze, otherwise, that pad is going to shift and buckle. Good luck with that. Otherwise, get an auger, dig down three feet, place a rebar rod, fill will concrete, lay gravel, lay chicken wire, THEN lay your concrete.

What you used to smooth out the job is not called a trowel, its a float, can be either steel or wooden to smooth and finish the surface, by the way did you hear about the wooden horse,. . wooden shit 🚽😜🐴🎠🧻

Sorry, water is one method. It must be completely dry after. The other methods are labor intensive. Their not wrong, just more labor.

Where's the rebar? What does keeping it wet do?
@MrKistel6 күн бұрын
Concrete cures for a long time and needs moisture throughout that process. A fuller cure should make for stronger concrete. That is what the chemistry folks say at least. In reality many people do not worry about this step however.
@fitmcdeezy87788 күн бұрын
I would recommend a garden hoe when mixing concrete like that or in a wheelbarrow. Im crazy impressed. I know how hard that is.

This is great! I am having to attach a a gate to close in a fence that connects to my neighbors. I was worried about how to attach directly to my brick house/garage. I like how you built the fence out a bit and then used 2 4x4s for the actual gate part. I will do the same.

@MrKistel11 күн бұрын
It was determined not necessary for the intended use and expected loads of this concrete pad.
@Steve-kf1lx11 күн бұрын
A few pieces of rebar is cheap insurance. It’s less about load and more about giving the pad elasticity to resist cracking & breaking apart over time. I’d recommend striving to do more than the bare minimum
