How did these interviewers stay awake? I have never heard a more absolute blowhard than Bundy. Netflix had 1,000 hours of tapes of him and only about 40 minutes were usable even in his own documentary. It's like listening to your Starbucks-frequenting friend who isn't nearly as smart or fascinating as he thinks he is. For that person, their Prius is the sleeping pill. For Bundy, even murder sounds like a long description of the Prius and its importance to humanity. The best word I found from everyone who talked to him was: Vapid. Just painfully vapid. You can tell listening to him talk that he fancies himself a police detective and/or lawyer and not what he actually was: A creepy necrophile. I also love how Bill and then Bob Keppel spent these long hours with him and then didn't listen to a damn thing he said. The Green River Killer was pinpointed by his only living witness very early into his spree. Bundy here is talking about how he's going to go back to the scene (and he did, repeatedly). Did they listen? Or were they just talking to him for fun? Imagine having the only living witness waving her arms saying this guy tried to kill me, and instead of doing what they did in Utah and following up, they just ignore it so they can give Bundy more free cigarettes. They had a living witness. They would have eventually found him at a dump site if they'd tailed him. The incompetence of the Seattle police department really helped Bundy and Gary Ridgeway.
