I've never seen anyone else not like Cat engines. They're usually the holy grail going by the other channels I watch. Most of those were working on semi trucks and heavy equipment though.

In Asia the best practice is multiple layers of LDPE bubble wrap, seperated by aluminum foil. Costs as much as you think, and doesn't allow much of anything to grow on them. I'd also recommend a few containers of dessicant and an AC powered condenser dehumidifier when you can plug in to run it.

Hi Chuck!!! You are definitely my new fave channel. I was wondering what your overall thought are on the 2009 Thomas Saf T Liner C2 with the Cummins engine? I love the style and look of the bus and the extra tall interior is going to save me a roof raise. I have heard some people poo-poo the C2. I’m curious what your thoughts are, since your opinion is the only one I will actually take seriously 😂

If someone were deadset on filling the floor holes, rather spend the time and tedious work welding, purchase rubber grommits that size and apply the chasis saver over it to create the seal! And anytime you weld you should corrosion protect both sides. That chasis saver should ideally cover both sides of the floor!

OMGosh, l'm glad you are doing what needs to be done for you, everyone needs to do this. I'm bummed because I find out that you're here, well you were here in Alamosa, CO. I was so happy to see that you care about how you put things together and I was going to get in touch with you so I can get an estimate of how much it would be to build out the flooring ceiling and walls in my 2016 Chevy Express 2500. I'm 68, will be 69 at the end of the year and I want to get out of here. I've lived here in Monument over 23 years now and I couldn't leave even though I wanted to because of my son. August 18th, 2022 I lost my son to a motorcycle accident at the young age 32. I don't want to be here anymore, I can't build this van by myself and I really don't have anybody to help me that I can trust at all. So if you ever find yourself near Monument Colorado please feel free to hit me up if you feel like helping me with my van. With love and sincerity, Paula E. [email protected] HAPPY AND SAFE TRAVELS

Ok so you're using 4 x 8 sheets of foam board, you need to use the lock tight between all edges to adhere each sheet together, correct?

I know this video was posted a long time ago but I have a question. When you were talking about the foam insulation you're saying that something about people worried about the bad fumes that it can produce. I'm wondering if there's a way to put something or paint something over it like a thin spray, thin paint, etc... coating that would not depreciate the value of the foam from doing what it does.

Kind of a newb on all this, but we just bought our bus with an 8.3l cummins and the md3060. Would unlocking sixth improve fuel performance even if its kept under 55-60mph? I've got too much power at my disposal and the last thing i want is a dragster bus 🤣

Dang, wow. I was planning to do wool insulation for the "natural product, less petroleum-based nonsense" reasons, but... yep. Wow. You just fully talked me out of it, and I'm thankful for how much science and reality you used to do it. Thank you for saving me from a mess (which would have probably included a plastic... so petroleum-based anyway... vapor barrier, I just learned).

When doing a van build where space is limited, and you can't afford the space of inches of insulation on top of your framing, how would you recommend mitigating thermal bridging for the wood studs? Maybe a layer of XPS behind each stud? So the sandwich in my case would be wall cavity insulation (whether spray foam or thinsulate), studs with XPS adhered to their backs, and lastly wrapping the whole thing in Intello Plus variable vapor barrier.

Thats a lot of trailer to be towing without a weight distributing hitch. Another thing... if the trailer is slightly nose down, it doesn't add but a very little more weight to the front trailer axle. There is an equalizer between the axles that essentially makes the tandem axle act like one; equalizing the weight that each axle carries. Yes, you should have determined tongue weight. I can't comment on the rating of the bus or the hitch / mounts that broke, but it certainly wasn't up to the task.

I really hate how the US hides what things are made out of under layers and layers of other useless information. It turns out I purchased the Polyisocyanurate Boards for my whole van. Honestly thought it was the same stuff as the pink stuff. Is it really that big of a deal? How is it compressive strength vs XPS?

Hey Chuck, trying to frame out this same area above the windshield of my bus but with no window. I want to install a mini split where your window is. Do I a) leave that area completely frameless so I can fill it with spray foam or b) put a box in there as well for the future mini split and spray foam around it like you did. If option b how do i spray foam behind it because there won't be a hole to the outside like the window.

I'm in the early stages and you are my go-to on several fronts. I just bought a shuttle bus that has a humongous AC. It must take up 30% of the roof. And the internal unit... Inches inches on top of inches. First question, will the 9000 BTU be sufficient for a 25' shuttle that has a very open floor plan? If the exterior unit is placed underneath the bus how much space is needed from the base of the unit to the ground? Lastly, I would prefer to put this in the middle on my Transit. Bedroom is in the rear, not fond of cold wind. Any issues in particular with a mid bus placement? Other question relates to insulation. I watch the insulation videos. After I take out my headliner and my rubber floor, might have about 6' 3". I can't give up 6 in to insulation, the substrates, then still stand. When I lose a lot by going to inches on the floor and then spray the roof? What are your thoughts on heated floors? Again, thank you.

Minor comment about "convection". Convection is the mass transport of hot stuff because of buoyant expansion. You heat the air, or water, it expands and becomes buoyant relative to the cooler air/water, and floats upward (then it cools and comes back down). You can also push the heated mass around with fans and pumps (or even shovelling hot sand) which is very similar to classic convection. Often convection is actually a problem because the heat 'goes away' and fails to stay where you put it. It can also carry moisture with it. Damp air is is also buoyant, so warm damp air can be even more of a problem. As an aside, water stops expanding for temperatures below 4C, which is part of why you get ice on lakes, rather than the frigidly warm water floating to the top! Finally, it's also worth realising that your van is "just" a mobile building and all their science and learning can be borrowed (see Joe Lstiburek's stuff)

The DT466 is a garbage diesel, and this is the whole reason he thinks diesels do not go a million miles because International has never built a million-mile engine and only 2 companies have and there 1# Cummins they do a million miles and are documented and proven to go that millage, 2# Detroit Diesels are very well known and also are proven and documented to go a million miles easy. For the record chuck makes these claims also because it's extremely likely he buys whole sale buses auctions which is very common to be known as the place to sell the junk that will not sell anywhere else so it's going to be very likely that you're getting a lemon that everyone else kicked down the line because it has some serious problems that was too expensive to fix like a bad main Berring or early blow by which is very common getting those from schools because everyone I've ever worked on they never change the oil or they never had it services so no you won't get a million miles from bus that does not have a good maintenance record period and second I do not know what planet he gets tires but I get them new whole sale for 180 bucks lol the more I watch the more I see a possible scammer cough cough.....There are Diesels that go A million miles and its common do not listen to the Noobs!!!
