Hi Chuck. Seen a few of your videos and REALLY dig the style and sensibility you bring to the build community. I didn't know you had worked with the Lifepower batteries. I am installing a pair in my latest box truck build. I'm curious how you mounted them...is it just wood bracing or did you use the rack mounts?

Quick question, on a 4 lifepo battery bank with bms and buss bars, is there any advantage or disadvantage to having the main charge/ load cables connected to the center of the buss bars? In my mind perhaps better charge balancing? Just an unproven theory in my mind. (I have 2 batteries now equal length cable fed, going to add 2 more soon)

Their new 14kwh 280 ah 48v battery is killer at $3999 (currently on sale) Killer weight too though even though its smaller than 3 server rack batteries.

Can you please send me the list of the things I need to start buying before I get to buy my bus which it sounds like it’s going to be cheaper than the whole electrical system…Lol I can buy one battery at the time that why it won’t hurt that much…Lol 🤣😂

I understand that the Victron components are tested and proven to be top notch but I wonder why I don't see more mobile setups including the all-in-one that signature solar makes to go with these batteries. Price wise it just makes sense but maybe I don't quite understand the full benefit of the Victron setup.
@googleuser6814
@googleuser6814 10 ай бұрын
I could be wrong, but I think the Victron devices use less idle/standby power.
@marsrover001
@marsrover001 10 ай бұрын
Yes victron uses marginally less power at idle. You can offset this by adding 100w more solar. The main appeal to victron is the nice app. And it is nice. But honestly if your system is well designed you shouldn't even need to check it. Some people also argue the victron is just built better for vibration. I'm not sold on that given even the cheapest inverters last just fine on the road.
@ChuckCassadyYT
@ChuckCassadyYT 10 ай бұрын
It’s not quite that simple. I can hook tank and system monitors up to the Cerbo, I can control generators and anything that uses the canbus protocol. 5 year warranty, about 1/2 the idle consumption which is very important when the roof is filled it’s hard to just add 100w more. Remote monitoring, support, and control from anywhere, and greater system flexibility. There is certainly a place for all this tech, but for myself and the people who hire me, they go with the victron equipment

I guess signature solar inverter controller box isn't up to par?) you're using viltron instead? would you use everything from sisgsolar if it was install from scratch or you would still go for victron stuff?

I may have missed, but are they running a dc-dc charger from the bus batteries as well? I can't imagine 2400w being able to keep those batteries balanced regularly if they are using the full capacity of the battery storage. I have 2200w with 200ah 48v eg4 batteries and all victron system and running my pioneer minisplit all day, I can't imagine my system being able to charge another battery to full, let alone 2 to full on a regular basis. Regardless, it's a great setup.
@ChuckCassadyYT
@ChuckCassadyYT 10 ай бұрын
Getting fully charged is not that important for lithium. They prefer lower states of charge in fact! My take on it is that as long as your system has the panels to be net positive, you’ll be able to hit 100% regardless of your battery size (at least anything that could fit in a bus) and since lithium chemistry doesn’t share lead acids taste for regular full charges, there is no real limit to battery size other than wallet and dimensions

@@ChuckCassadyYT It's like the stereos of the 1980's, every component was separate with a maze of wires connecting them. Same thing with solar, all separate components are connected with a maze of wires. Both advanced to much simpler and cheaper systems. All-in-one charge controller/inverter/shore power that communicates with the batteries and are simple plug and play. if you want to make it harder and more expensive, then call it a hobby, because that's what it is.

I appreciate the way your reply dealt with nothing that I mentioned and incorporated a truly useless analogy. It’s apple to oranges, which I conceded. And then you made a comment about bananas. The all in one systems are a different breeed with different options and abilities than these. The good news is, you can do whatever you want!

At least signature solar is based on Texas, and I’m in Colorado. With the exception of cells made in Nevada, there just isn’t lithium production for this market in the US. We gave up on manufacturing a long time ago and free trade has been a boon for everyone but the people who actually make, grow, or produce the shit. The money flows up.
