Overall good video but in the future I would recommend either removing the window at the bottom right with your video feed or move the tools you are using in pixinsight because your video is covering up some of the options you are selecting. Also having the video window is distracting.

So, where are the follow up videos? I'm particularly in seeing how you can screw your coma corrector directly to the focuser drawtube.

Hi, sorry never got round to testing it as my mount died shortly after that video and I left the hobby and only just started up again. unfortunately I go on holiday soon and I’m not due for any clear sky before then, so it would be a few weeks before I can test it.
@j.s.340713 күн бұрын
I’m really curious where you can buy the threaded adapter needed to screw the coma corrector to the focuser and how much tilt you actually end up with on the telescope. Also am curious if your tube can support the weight of the massive focuser + image train without flexing and causing tilt problems. Have a nice holiday and be sure to post again after you try everything out Thanks

Nice video. However, buyer beware. I ordered a similar mount last year from the only seller (Robert) on Alibaba. I never was able to test the unit out to see how well it performed due to significant quality issues. I tried returning, but the return was denied by the seller. Alibaba then dismissed my return request and prevented me from being able to return it. I ended up having to file a chargeback, and the seller failed to provide a means to return it for 3 months. This caused me to almost lose my chargeback claim and delayed my refund significantly. During this time, i found out that the seller had illegally bypassed customs during shipping, which made the return 10x more difficult. The seller later tried to get me to return it without filing the proper customs documentation or providing insurance. I will never buy from Alibaba or this company again as a result. Its too bad as i really thought the product had potential.

Whilst I cannot comment on your supplier, my number 1 golden rule when buying Astro gear is to purchase from a reputable supplier in my own country to avoid such issues in the event you have faulty gear. It's fine to purchase the small cheaper items abroad but not expensive items as you have very little rights when buying from abroad.

Great idea to stop any damage to the hardware. So how does the set up actually stop the mount from moving when the two magnets come into contact? Is it the power of the magnets together, which I doubt would be stong enough if it crushed a telescope or does it stop the power to the mount? Do you have any wiring diagrams at the other end of the diagram to show how that connects to the solution, please?
@astrotube396729 күн бұрын
I take ir you didn't actually watch the video then 😂 all the info you asked for is in the video including the wiring diagram

@@astrotube3967 Slightly offended by that remark dude, I watched it twice but still had to ask the question. Some viewers rely on tutorials as our knowledge is not too great. I saw the wiring diagram and established that the two magnets are mounted on the mount and when they come together this triggers something to stop the mount progressing passed this point. I take it that it is the relay at the point the magnets come together powers down the mount to stop rotation?
@astrotube396721 күн бұрын
Hi Julian, i didn’t mean to offend. I’ve just had about a dozen people messaging me directly asking if I had a wiring diagram and asking for information that was already in the video, so I wrongly assumed you hadn’t watched it, so please accept my apologies.

No worries, so basically cut the power lead and reattach with the relay in-between?
@astrotube396720 күн бұрын
@@julianmatthews3262 Before you cut any wires maybe consider putting the relay board in a little project box, and then putting a female 12v power connector on side of the box and have that wired the 12v input on the relay. Then from the relay output, wire it to a 12v male power tip then test it with a volt meter and then double check you got the polarity the right way round and test it on other 12v devices before plugging into your mount.

Hello. I am seriously considering by 2000mm HD11 weighing about 16 kg. As I pointed out to someone else, it seems that the HAE69EC with EC installed would be preferable for imaging at 2000mm. Could I get your opinion on this?
@astrotube396729 күн бұрын
It’s a hard one to call. I’ve seen a few complaints about the HAE69 having a bit of backlash due to the belt. Obviously the WD-20 is direct drive so has no belts. In terms of the encoder on the RA, it’s alway great to have an encoder as it allows for longer 2-3s guide pulses which help with seeing, but multi star guiding helps with that anyway. For me me I don’t think the extra 40% (2k) price increase is justified. I think it’s a rip off as you can get Renishaw absolute encoders for about 1k, and the EC is not using an absolute encoder.
@cbynum526Ай бұрын
Surprised the manufactures don't have this already built into the mount. Maybe a later version will in the future.
@astrotube3967Ай бұрын
The mount has software software limits as all mounts have - But software limits can fail if the mount crashes or if the user does not set the limits correctly and on the WD-20 forum tere has been at least 1 reported case of a person having their Takahashi crushed. So it's just an extra bit of protection that can be fitted for under £20 that is non-invasive and can be easily removed.

@astrotube3967Ай бұрын
Your 10” RC should be fine as my 10” newt has a similar distance from the dovetail in terms of the centre of mass. My scope is a very similar weight and probably a similar length, possibly a little longer. I have an 8” RC, but not had a chance to test it yet. Will be interested to see how it handles the longer focal length. That said lukomatic apparently uses a C11 on an AM5 with no issues.

Sir is this wd 20 is good for c11 for watch mars with 2x or 4x powermates , and imaging too
@astrotube3967Ай бұрын
Hi the mount can certainly handle the size and weight of the C11 as it's shorter and lighter than my 10" newt, but i'm not sure how it would handle the long focal length. Once you start getting above 1500-2000mm F/L then i'm not sure a Harmonic mount would be the best option. For Similar money i would be looking at either a CEM70 or an EQ8 as being better options. I see some users with C9.25" have been getting around 0.6" RMS when guiding at the native 2350mm F/L but at 5600mm then i think it would struggle. Imaging at F20 (5600mm) would need a high end mount to get the best results. I'm not a planetary imager, but i know a lot of planetary imager are using high end mounts with encoders. So for visual it would be fine, but for Imaging it wouldn't be my choice, especially not at the focal lengths you want to use.

@astrotube3967Ай бұрын
Hi Brad, technically you don’t need a counterweight, but if you are using on a tripod, then a counterweight is recommended for balance so as not to tip the tripod, however you can just use a tripod hammock instead and fill it with rocks.

Fab review thank you. On watching Cuiv's review of this mount I decided to buy this mount but have not taken possession of it yet. I was just wondering about the onstep software though, as Cuiv mentioned that he had an issue with the meridian flip and the onstep default settings. Did you have the same issue or concern over these settings? I think Cuiv later set the meridian limit East to zero degrees and west to 5 degrees or so. Having had time to use this mount now, are you still happy with it and would you still highly recommend it? Thank you

I just started this hobby seriously last year. I bought a small 60mm f/5 astrograph and some small planetary cameras to practice on the Moon and Sun. I took a big plunge and got a nice tracking mount and guiding and auto focusing. I had to learn a lot of things. I live next to Toronto with Bortle 8/9 skies and had few expectations to be able to image anything. I was surprised that I was able to image galaxies using a simple UV IR cut filter. I was quite shocked actually. I think if you are just starting out or have a second scope don’t be afraid to use a small uncooled planetary camera to capture data.
